A Polo Player’s Work is never done. After a busy afternoon last
Saturday at the polo grounds collecting Most Valuable Player and
Best Playing Pony Award for his mare Alita (see page 3), Martin
Pepa was still at work later that evening at Michael Borrico’s
Party doing the dishes first and then providing First-Aid care to
Mara Kadish, sitting pretty with her red dress. But soon it was
Martin’s turn to be nurtured and his boo-boo cured by nurse
Louise Tabbiner. (ph Frederic Roy)

Robin Hood Foundation
to Host LemonAid Project
at Bridgehampton Today
R
obin Hood invites families to “take a stand”
against poverty through Lemonaid. Every
summer Robin Hood donors and their families set up lemonaid stands in their communities and send the proceeds to Robin Hood to fund the
best poverty fighting organizations in New York City.
Lemonaid is a fun, creative way to introduce philanthropy to children and encourage the act of giving.
Last year, kids raised more than $100,000 to provide education, housing, food and job training for New
Yorkers in need!
Robin Hood holds steadfast to a single mission: fight
poverty in New York City. We find, fund and create
programs and schools that generate measurable results
for families in New York’s poorest neighborhoods. We
work closely with the 200 organizations we support
to help them reach capacity and maximize outcomes.
A rigorous system of metrics and third-party evaluation of these groups guarantee accountability. The
board pays all administrative, fundraising and evaluation costs, so 100 percent of donations goes directly
to organizations helping New Yorkers in need to build
better lives.

Northeast Equine Expo
Kicks Off Top Horse Event
N
ortheast Equine Expo recently
announced its 2010 event by
fielding a team at the Meadowbrook Ladies Tournament.
Playing for Expo were Lauren Carson,
Stacie Rodriquez, Barbara Tedder and Jessica Walsh,
The Expo, a premier equestrian event in
the region, will be held at world-renowned
Belmont Park on May 29-30, 2010. Drawing from the New England and Tri-State
area, 30,000 people are expected to attend.
“Certainly, just before the Triple Crown,
on a holiday weekend, this is the place for
all equine vendors and sponsors,” Bryan
Lazarus, Expo chairman, said. “This
family-friendly event is a great showcase
for exhibitors and riders, in one of the top
equestrian areas of the United States.”
Long Island alone has over 60,000 horses and generates an estimated $1 billion in
equine revenues.
Jessica Walsh, Expo Co-Founder said
“We are proud that Belmont Park has offered us the rare opportunity to host demonstrations in the center of the raceway.
We have invited a variety of riders to perform, from Olympic level to pony club and
will be hosting an exciting match of polo.
Not only will these events have a large
audience at the Park, they will be shown
on the Race TV Broadcast System to approximately 3 million people.
In addition to the broadcasted Infield
events, portions of Belmont’s historic
grounds have been reserved for exhibitors
and special tents will feature fabulous ecofriendly to equestrian lifestyle products.
Walsh said visitors can view different breeds in hundred
stalls under one tent. The Expo will also have a special
tent specifically for families with a young equestrian.
Demonstrations and workshops will be held throughout
the two-day event.
Located between Manhattan and the Hamptons, Belmont Park is easily accessible to thousands of equestrian
enthusiasts.
Vendors can reserve 10 x 10 booths, as well as larger
exterior spaces. Lazarus noted that various sponsorship
packages are also available.
For more information about the schedule, events, activities, etc..., please call (877) 778-EXPO or [email protected].

Youth Polo at Santa Barbara
O
n Thursday, August 13,
the World Gym Tournament had 28 participants. The action started
with the Leadline, then the Walk/
Trot group. In the Canter/ Gallop
group there was record numbers this
year, and three strong teams played
a round robin.
In the Rock and Roll Group there
were several talented youngsters
who looked ready to move on to the
20 goal the next day!
The players came from all over,
as there were local Californians and
children who had come from Florida
and Argentina along with their high
goal playing parents. Roper Kiesner,
a youngster who travels with his
family to rodeos, was in town for
the weekend and thanks to a generous horse loan from Audi, was able
to play as well.
The ponies being played varied
from furry Shetlands to Harrison
Azzaro’s mount, which I think he
borrowed out of his dad Mike’s high
goal string.
The MVP of the World Gym tournament was Phillipe Bercellino, and
the BPP was Joaquin Avendano’s
horse “Pink Panther.”
On Saturday, the Linfoot Memorial saw kids swarming the field, as
there were 37 participants! Most of
the participants of the World Gym
tournament returned for more polo
action, and several players from
Poway came up to join in the fun.
MVP (leadline)- Riley Jordan,
MVP (walk/trot)- Mackenzie
Weisz, MVP (canter/ gallop)- Roper
Kiesner, MVP (rock and roll)- Gonzalo Weisz and Phillipe Bercellino.
