CURE CANCER
FASTER
2015 OBLITERIDE REVIEW
Driven by the goal to cure cancer faster, Obliteride is a community-wide effort to
accelerate lifesaving cancer research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
Every August the community comes together for a fundraising bike ride where we
celebrate and cycle together. Thanks to sponsors like you, 100% of every dollar
raised by our participants benefits cancer research at Fred Hutch.
Sparked by the need to replace dwindling government funding for cancer research,
Obliteride was born in 2013. Obliteride quickly gathered speed and momentum.
Today we interface with over 50 sponsors annually, who together make Obliteride
possible.
Obliteride helps thousands of people be part of a solution to the problem of
cancer. Whether it’s writing a blog post to share the story of a personal battle
with cancer, donating to a rider’s fundraising target, attending a fundraising party,
pedaling in the spring rain or giving an Obliterider a loud cheer along the course,
we’re all doing our part to make a difference and helping Obliteride cyclists reach
their goals. For those riding as Survivors, the Obliteride Finish Line is often an
iconic metaphor, providing inspiration through tough times and an incredible sense
of accomplishment.
Obliteride has become a force—bold, orange and proud. Obliteride is making a
difference for those involved, those cheering from the sidelines and most
importantly, for the lifesaving research happening daily at Fred Hutch.
THANK YOU.

OBLITERIDE IS
MOVING THE DIAL
Obliteride is here to raise awareness of
the need for private funding and to
accelerate research at a time when funds
are scarcer than ever and yet imminent
discovery is more promising than ever.
We are gaining speed.
We’ve raised nearly $7 million
for cancer research.
People are talking about Obliteride and
Fred Hutch and getting actively involved.
In fact, over 70% of riders want to
get more involved with Fred Hutch and
nearly 50% of all riders are inspired to
tell others of the amazing work
happening at the Hutch.
This is a community bound by purpose
and active engagement. The spirit found
at Obliteride is palpable, refreshing,
energizing and incredibly hopeful.
Together we are propelling research
forward, learning quicker and
saving lives faster.

BLUE NILE
GOES ALL IN!
TO CURE CANCER FASTER
In February 2014 we met Harvey Kanter along a tour of Fred
Hutch. A non-Hodgkin lymphoma survivor, Harvey’s interest in
cancer research was personal. Harvey knew he wanted to take
action and when he heard about Obliteride, he knew it was the
perfect place to do so.
Within a week conversations started, which quickly turned into
meetings at Blue Nile, the company where Harvey Kanter serves
as the CEO and Chairman of the Board.
The Blue Nile team was on-board for Obliteride 2014, and by
August they had recruited a team of 11 riders and nine volunteers to sponsor and power one of the most spirited rest stops
at Obliteride 2014. In 2015 they recruited 14 riders and 14
volunteers. In these two years they’ve raised $90,000, owned a
rest stop, worn orange on Fridays, hosted numerous independent
fundraisers and done it all together. They even brought their own
band to play at the rest stop. The Blue Nile energy is palpable and
event photos beam with Blue Nile riders and volunteers smiling,
pedaling and celebrating together.
That’s what Obliteride has come to mean
to Blue Nile. It’s a shared commitment to
do something meaningful in a community
they live in and for a cause that’s personal
to everyone there.
Oh….and did we mention that Harvey has
been a top three fundraiser each year?
He means business.
