termed the meeting ‘friendly”.
He told the meeting was
arranged and ‘non-political’.
The meeting is significant
due to various reasons. Bidari
has drawn the ire of the Gowda family after he registered
an FIR in the Upper Krishna
Project, apparently targeting
the former PM.
On October 7, CID police ar-
rested former KPSC chairman
and state information commissioner H N Krishna, a close
associate of the Gowda family, for alleged irregularities in
KPSC selection in 1998, 1999
and 2004.
DG & IGP N Achutha Rao is
retiring this month. Along with
senior officer A R Infant, Bidari
is also in the race for the post.
Reacting to the registering of
that FIR, Gowda had said
Bidari was playing the caste
card with an eye on the post of
DG & IGP. He alleged that
Bidari had done so to please the
BJP government, especially B
wanted to meet me and give
clarifications on some issues. Whoever
invites me, I go and meet them. We’ll
fight the case against us (UKP case)
and don’t need anybody’s help. As far
as the post of DG & IGP is concerned,
it’s the government’s decision and I
have nothing to do with it.’’
S Yeddyurappa so that the government would overlook the
seniority of A R Infant and consider him for the top post. Batting for Infant, Gowda said he’d
wage a fight if Infant is not
made the DG & IGP.
Rebutting the allegations,
Bidari replied that nobody
could do anything to him. On
Saturday, Bidari had mellowed
down. He said: ``Some persons
are trying to spread unhealthy
rumours. Kumaraswamy expressed his desire to meet me
and clear the issue. We met on
Friday night at my house in
BTM Layout. He was supposed
to reach around 9pm but came
around 10.30pm,” Bidari said.
“We’ve known each other
since 1996 and there’s nothing
to hide. He had some questions
to ask and after answering, I
asked him a few. In the end, the
air was cleared,” he said.
Bidari agreed that they
spoke on various issues, including the Upper Krishna
project. “I cleared all his
doubts,” he added.
When asked about the DGIGP controversy, Bidari said:
“Appointing the DG & IGP is a
government decision. There’s
no use talking about it.”

helped us with the language.’’
Debasmita Dasgupta, project executive of the Singaporebased Asia-Europe Foundation, an organization that facilitates people exchange volunteering activities in Europe
and Asia, says: “This time we
had 21 volunteers who were
interested in directly working
with the community. Usually,
almost all of them have the
dilemma of whether social
service is their cup of tea.
They go back with what they
have learnt here and act as
multipliers back home.’’
