Background and Purpose There is few reports to date that supports superior clinical outcomes with labral refixation compared with labral debridement in the setting of arthroscopic treatment of FAI. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of labral repair in the arthroscopic treatment of FAI by compairing with labral debridement . Patients Arthroscopic treatment of FAI associated with labral pathology in 48patients( 55hips) Single surgeon (H.O.) group D (debridement) September 2003 - Nobember 2007 : n=11 group R ( repaired all labral tears as possible as we can. ) Nobember 2007 - October 2011 : n=37 Methods Outcome Measures • JOA score (Japan Orthopedic Association hip score) :Pain(40) + ROM(20) + Walk(20) + ADL(20) • Pain score ( JOA score ) Provocation test • Impingement sign( pre-post op.) Methods Debridement(Group D) vs.labral Repair(Group R) Exclusion criteria: < 6 month follow-up Revision surgery Osteoarthritis( > Tönnis grade 1) Acetabular dysplasia Assessed using the Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test. p-value < 0.05 determines significance demographic labral debridement (group D = 13hips) labral repair (group R = 42hips) mean age 35 39 mean follow up 48.1 21.5 duration (onset to surgery ) 11.45 12.16 gender( M : F ) 2:9 11 : 26 Results JOA score (total ) 95 61 pre op. * post op. p<0.0001(t test) discussion We compared the results of labral repair and debridement in the arthroscopic treatment of FAI. In this study, there was no difference in total score of JOA score, however focused on the pain score ,there was significant difference between two groups. These results indicated that labral refixation resulted in better JOA pain score . Thus , it may be bound to good clinical result and to reducing the chance of subsequently developing osteoarthritis.
