Cycle Challenge 2015
Mizen to Malin
Thursday 23rd July
 Bikes will be picked up from Tesco carpark, Nenagh at 2:00pm
 Bus pick up passengers from Tesco carpark, Nenagh at 2:30pm
 Evening meal stop at Mack’s on Main Street, Killarney at 5:00pm
 Arrive at our B&B’s, Mizen Head at 8pm-ish
There will be 3 vehicles travelling down to Mizen
 Bus - bring your gear bags in this. The group travel down together on this bus.
 Van - (driver = Bertie Sherlock) bikes will be placed into this at Tesco’s.
 Campervan - (driver = Seán Gleeson) bikes will be placed into this at Tesco’s.
Try not to overdo it with the amount of gear you bring. We are only going to be
away for 4 nights so you don’t need a huge amount. However, do make sure to
bring cycling clothes suitable for all conditions.
Friday 24th July
 Breakfast will be served in our B&B’s from 5.45am.
 B&B’s are located in both Goleen village and Toormore . We will let you
know where exactly you are staying on the way down. These B&Bs are
roughly > 10km from the start in Mizen, so give yourself enough time to
get down there for the group photos (proof) at the start line in Mizen.
 Start: Our aim is to start sometime between 6.30 - 7:00am.
 Two groups on the road - pace controlled at 28 km/h and 30km+/h.
Whenever the groups are merged the pace will be kept at the lower
average pace; feel free to let the racing lads do most of the work.

 Stop 1: there will be a quick drink/snack stop at Kenmare (86km/54ml)

 Stop 2: longer stop for lunch - soup/sandwiches, tea/coffee & biscuits.
This has been booked for a time between 12.30 and 2.00pm, at
Meadowlands Hotel, Tralee (152km/95mls).

 There should be no need to schedule in another stop, as we will be using
the ferry from Tarbert to Killimer which will give cyclists a chance to take
a break of at least 20mins. There are shops at the stop and on the ferry.

 All going well, we aim to arrive at Lahinch Golf & Leisure Hotel at 5.30pm

 There is a pool here for those of you who might be interested in using
this facility. It has been arranged that we can leave our bikes in our
rooms or porter’s room.
 A four course evening meal has being booked for 7pm.
 Bed I am sure will be 10ish for most. No difficulty sleeping tonight.
 Breakfast on Saturday will be served at 5:15pm (on the road for 6:00)

Saturday, 25th July
 Start: we will be on the road by 6am sharp.

 Stop 1: quick morning tea / snack stop at Moycullen (94km/59ml)
Cycle Challenge 2015
 Stop 2: Lunch stop on this day, has being booked at Leenane Hotel
(150km/94mls) for soup/sandwiches, tea/coffee & biscuits. As lunch stop is
not too far from Ballina, it won’t be necessary to plan another stop.
However, this can be reviewed on the day, this is a hilly route.

 We will need to be arriving at the Hotel in Ballina at 5pm at the latest.
 It has being arranged that we can bring bikes to our rooms or leave them in
a locked yard at the back of the hotel. Evening meal had to be booked for
6pm. There will be a wedding on in the hotel same evening, so hotel have
requested we book evening meal as early as possible.
 Breakfast will be served from 6:00am.

 Start: we will be on the road by 6:45am.

 Stop 1: quick morning tea / snack stop at Cliffony (83km/ 51ml)
Cycle Challenge 2015
 Stop 2: lunch has been booked at Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey.
 Distance from Ballybofey to Malin is (93km/58mls). Depending on how
everyone is feeling, we can fit in a quick stop, or continue our cycle out to
Malin Head.
 We will be spending our final night in Malin Hotel.
 Evening meal has been booked for later time of 8pm. Bikes can be stored in
locked yard near hotel, or in function room in hotel, if room not in use.

Monday, 27th July
 Homeward bound: We will be hoping to leave sometime between 11:00
and 12:00 depending on how sore the heads are. Journey should take 5
hours approx. We will stop for food on the way home.
 Everyone must collect their bikes in Nenagh the same evening.
