Firstly I’d like to remind everyone that they need to get their deposits in if they intend to book trophy show accommodation or a food package for the May 2015 Trophy/Champ show weekend. The flyer and booking form has been sent out, if you need another copy, please email the club. Also membership renewals are now overdue. Anyone renewing now will be subject to a re-joining fee. We have gained a lot of new members for this financial year which is great to see and we hope everyone will support the club by attending our events. We have some great events coming up for the last half of the year including our October bully/staffy match, and another Champ and Specialty show in cup weekend November with Aussie ROM judges, Jamie Watkiss (WA) and Moira Stewart (QLD). We will have some great items for auction between shows and our Promo trailer will be stocked up. It has been hard for a limited committee to manage all the jobs so I’m thrilled that we finally have a full and enthusiastic committee with dedicated roles. This puts the club in a great position to finally tackle some projects that have been put off a number of times due to a skeleton staff committee only having the time to get the bare essentials done. Our sponsorship list for November is in this newsletter. It was wonderful to get so many sponsors for the last show in May, I hope we can nearly fill this list as well. Finally the committee have been working to get a breeder/puppy listing scheme back up and running as currently we can only refer puppy enquiries to dogzonline. We have also been looking at the constitution and whether it can be improved upon. Keep an eye on our SGM and AGM agendas for more on this topic. Hope to see you at our next event, Cheers Deb Patterson Secretary BTCV 3 Show Secretary’s Report First of all a big "thank you" to everyone who turned out for our latest Members Comp./Fun Day especially our judges Liz Smith, who filled in at very short notice, and Julie Williams. As this was my first time as Show Secretary I would like to thank Jenny for helping take the entries and to Les who after all these years had his first appointment as ring steward, or so he told me. Thanks also to Neil & Kaye for organising the prizes and Gina for organising the catering. Although the weather was fine the number of exhibitors was rather disappointing. These shows are a source of revenue for the club, but also an opportunity for members new and old to train up your dogs for big shows in a friendly informal atmosphere. In Julie Williams we had one of the very best handlers who would have been happy to give any advice. If there is anything in particular keeping you away from shows, things that you would like changed, let the committee know, we may be able to change a few things. Remember the club is there for you the members so if you have any ideas speak up. Now onto a really serious topic, we have a Members Comp/Match Day Sunday 5th October. The Match Day part is against the Staffy club for the famous" Dunny Seat", which we hold and they are determined to regain, as they claim we won by default. That being the case they say we are going to be swamped by them this time around. Let’s prove them wrong by getting as many Bullies as possible out there to give the judges something to think about! The Open Show this year is being held in conjunction with Dogs Big Day Out at K.C.C. Park .This is a big event with many breeds holding shows agility demonstrations, lure racing, face painting & over fifty stalls, so get your best friends out and enjoy the day. Regards David Hirst BTCV Show Secretary/Show Manager 4 Meet the newest Committee Members Treasurer Hi Members, my name is Jen Woodsell, but many of you would remember me by my previous married name of Westbury (and that’s all we will mention of that!). I’ve come back into the breed after a 16 year absence. Back in the late 80’s and early 90’s I bred and showed Bull Terriers under the “Sturgis” prefix and was also Secretary of the B.T.C.V for a couple of years. In the years since then I’ve bred a couple of litters of Staffords, owned 2 Great Danes, got married and had 2 daughters. Our eldest daughter Rhiannon “Annie” passed away 3 years ago at the age of 16 after a 3 year battle with an extremely rare form of Cancer. As you could well imagine this was a terrible time in our lives, but we have managed to survive, although we will never get over the loss of our beautiful angel. To ensure that everyone remembers Annie we have formed several Relay for Life Teams in Annie’s memory “Team Annie” raising money for the Cancer Council Vic. Since Annie passed we have raised in excess of $38,000. Just over a year ago I wonderful bundle of joy came into our lives “Sid”, a beautiful Bullie we purchased from Semajon Kennels. He has bought such joy to our lives and I now think …”How did I go so long without a Bullie in our family?” This has now led me being back on Committee after many many years in the roll of Treasurer………Wish me Luck! Committee – Promo Trailer My name is Jacquie Smith and I am Quality Control for Innovia Films. Innovia Films make the Polymer note that money is printed on and are the only place in the world that makes it. Last year The Bank of England decided to commission the polymer note for the £, so in 2016 we will see the £5 and £10 notes printed on polymer and not paper. This film will be made in England so I will have a few trips to do between now and then. Phil and I live in Wandong with our 4 Bully babies Roxy, Steele, Molly and Angus. We are long time lovers of bullies and have forged lifetime friends through our dogs. They are spoilt rotten and I would not have it any other way…..many people want to come back as one of our bullies lol. As we have been long time members we thought it was a good time to give back to the club we love so much. So I am looking forward to working with the club and everyone one the current committee. 5 Revenue & Expense The Bull Terrier Club of Victoria Inc. FOR YOUR MEMBERS AND FELLOW EXIBITORS ALIKE, YOUR HOSPITALITY AND FRIENDLYNESS DOES YOU GREAT CREDIT. OVER ALL COMMENTS, I FOUND SINCE MY LAST VISIT APPROX 8 YEARS AGO THERE TO BE MORE UNIFORMITY ACROSS THE EXIBITS, ALSO MORE EXIBITS WITH WIDTH (SPRING OF RIB) COUPLED WITH THE DEPTH OF BRISKET BOTH SO IMPORTANT TO A BULL TERRIER. I ALSO FOUND BONE IN MOST TO BE PLENTIFUL. MOVEMENT AND MOUTHS, WELL IM NOT A TOOTH FAIRY NIETHER AM I A MOVEMENT FREAK, HOWEVER IT’S GOOD TO SEE A CORRECT MOUTH, AS IT IS WITH MOVEMENT. IT’S FAIR TO SAY LIKE WORLD WIDE, I FOUND GOOD BAD AND TYPICAL MOVEMENT WITH AN ACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF INCORRECT MOUTHS. I FEEL IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND WE ARE, AFTER ALL A HEAD BREED, WITH A HEAD THAT CONTINUES TO DEVELOP OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. We took a stroll through the Vic Market; our Bully’s lapped up all the attention and all on their best behaviours, followed by more play & were even lucky enough to score some left over sausages before it was time to head home exhausted! These days are not only just for socialising, but are so important with educating the public on the breed. I know I (Sherri) kindly handed out a few educational pamphlets to members of the public who initially thought the dogs were yes wait for it ‘Pitt Bulls’ or a ‘Dangerous Breed’! Below are some pic’s of the day. I hope you can all make it to the next Bully Walk on the 19th October 14 at Yarra River Banks (see flyer attached for more info). 17 BTCV NEWSLETTER – VOL 1/ No. 1 Firstly I think I should thank a past member of the BTCV who has made the re-publication of the Club’s first ever Newsletter possible. The person I am referring to is an old friend of mine, Mr Angus McIntosh whom I have known for almost forty years. Angus was a member of the BTCV right from the start and served on the Committee from July 1977 to the end of 1980. Angus had a rather good dog, called Dabews Thunder and although it had a metal pin in one of his back legs was a success in the ring. The dog won Best Intermediate Dog at our first ever Open Parade in October 1976; Challenge Dog at the 1977 Melbourne Royal, and Best Open Dog at our first ever Championship Show in 1977 under Jim Craig. In later years, Angus moved up Country and although he could not attend the meetings, remained a member for many years. A few years ago, Angus advised me that he had Club Newsletters spanning quite a lengthy period and agreed to send them to me to scan into a library. For the first four years when there were no photocopiers, we would type the Newsletter onto Stencils and run them through a Gestetner Duplicating Machine, then print off the required number for the Newsletter. Fortunately, several of our Committee at the time had access to these machines and when they were all printed, we would have a meeting at which the committee members assembled the finished newsletter for distribution. On the cover of the second issue of the Newsletter, we displayed our club Logo; I had a lot of fun drafting it out onto the wax stencil for the Gestetner machine. At the time, the favoured paper sizes were foolscap (larger than A4) and quarto (smaller than A4) so we chose Quarto until 1980. The last newsletter printed and collated in this fashion was July 1980 when we lashed out and had them printed, slightly more professionally in A4 size.
