100 solar panels installed by Warwick company to heat large pool
WARWICK - Local solar expert, Patrick
Gallagher of Gallagher Solar Thermal in Warwick,
just completed a 100 panel solar pool heating
system at Camp Loyaltown in Hunter, N.Y.
The camp is owned by AHRC (formerly known
as the Association for the Help of Retarded
Children) whose mission is to teach, support and
advocate for children and adults with intellectual
and other developmental disabilities.
The AHRC camp had been heating the
9,000-square-foot pool exclusively with propane.
The 4,800-square-foot solar panel arrangement,
installed by Gallagher, is expected to slash the
cost of heating this pool and reduce operating
expense dramatically. Camp Loyaltown’s
pool is larger than almost a dozen 20’ by 40’
conventional backyard pools.
“Camp Loyaltown has the largest solar pool
heating system that I am aware of in the region,”
said Gallagher. “I’m proud to have been chosen
to install this system for such a worthwhile and
forward-looking organization. Solar pool heating
is simple and effective and we can install solar
pool heating systems for any size pool at clubs,
camps, municipalities or private backyards.”

and that solar pool collectors will last from 12
to 20 years, which is more than three times the
average life of a gas heater, electric pool heater
or swimming pool heat pump and without the
related service.
“We put the heat and the fun back into the
pool without the shock of the monthly propane
or electric bill,” he said. “The right sized solar
pool heating systems can make your pool 15
degrees warmer just from the sun and, if you
use a pool cover to preserve heat overnight, the
accumulated temperature will climb even higher.”
Gallagher Solar Thermal can also install home
use solar hot water for showers, laundry, and dish
washing.
“It’s simple and it works,” said Gallagher.
