Three Named Trustees of New Pleasure Ridge Fire District
Frank J. Murphy, Mrs. Alma Gray, and Grover C. Hollis yesterday were elected trustees of the new Pleasure
Ridge Park Fire District. A total of 165 votes was cast.
Murphy said the trustees probably will meet tomorrow night to organize and to select a chief. Besides the
salaried chief, the district will have four paid firemen and about 25 volunteers, he said.
The district is the first to be created in Kentucky under a comparatively recent State law to help rural communities get fire protection, said Daniel B. Boone, Jefferson County director of fire services.
The district was formed on order of County Court after 1,750 of the 2,800 eligible voters of the area signed a
petition.
The district trustees will be allowed to levy a tax of as much as 10 cents on each $100 of assessed value of
property in the district to finance the Fire Department.
Boone said County Fiscal Court had agreed to allow the district to use one of the County’s fire engines and
the former fire station at Pleasure Ridge.

Department
bought
this
pumper. It eventually was hit
by a truckload of soldiers and
the front end was completely
demolished. It was sent back
to Seagrave in Columbus, Ohio
and rebuilt new from the dash
forward.
It looked almost
brand new. It was eventually
sold to a department in Southern Indiana.

PRP history page
As we enter the new Millennium, we have been looking forward to anticipate the future needs of the communities we serve. The district, over the past few years has been replacing its fleet of fire apparatus. Along with this,
our training division has constructed a multistory drill tower to provide more advanced training to our personnel. In 2004, we merged with the South Dixie Fire District and hired our first 24-hour career crew. We are doing this to better serve our community for the next fifty years.
