note:
Edward Cucuel studied under the Orientalist painter
Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904). A member of the
Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and exhibitor with
the Salon d'Automne, Cucuel worked in a generally
impressionist style and concentrated on figural
subject matter, along with landscapes. He is best
known for his oils of elegant women rendered with
rich impasto and vibrant, highly-keyed colors in sun
dappled settings or interiors.
