the network, SNMP also provides Traps that enable important unsolicited
messages relating to the system to be handled on an interrupt basis.
The SNMP Module, in combination with a Black Box DSU, gives the
network manager or administrator extensive visibility and ocntrol of the
WAN link. The ability to monitor performance statistics and network
errors from a centralised point enables quick corrective action to be
taken, thereby enhancing network efficiency and providing information
that can help to diagnose problems and manage even the most complex
networks.

Abeo MultiRack
Centrally manage your Abeo LAN extensions for
• Compact 12-slot rack chassis.
• Centralised SNMP management of all your
links.
• Hot-swappable power and extender cards.
• Dual redundant PSU for high availability.
• G.703, X.21 and V.35 bridge cards
available.
• Interoperable with the Abeo desktop
series.
• Warranty — 1 Year
The Rack
The MultiRack is a robust and user-friendly centralisation solution for
all your LAN bridging requirements. This compact rack provides 12 card
slots to house hot-swappable Abeo LAN extension cards, which include
G.703, X.21 and V.35 options. You can purchase a dual-powered chassis
with redundant load-sharing PSUs for increased availability, or you can
order a single-power version and upgrade to dual power later. All power
supplies are fully hot-swappable, and there is also a -48VDC option
available.
The power supplies are housed in the first two double-width chassis
slots, and you can order a PSU blanking plate if only one PSU is needed.
Blanking plates are also available to cover empty extender card slots and
should be fitted for EMC compliance.
The Abeo MultiRack is fully manageable using SNMP, Telnet or via
the local console port providing you with user-friendly local and remote
administration. SNMPv1 is supported including MIB-2 and traps. SNMP
traps are generated in response to user-configurable alarm conditions on
the extension cards, allowing you to customise the solution to your
specific needs. Performance statistics are also available for all ports, with
data collected every 15 minutes in a 24-hour period.
TM
The Cards
Our range of Abeo LAN extender cards will bridge a LAN connection
over a G.703, X.21 or V.35 wide-area link. The cards are fully hot
swappable and plug-and-play for most installations. Use these cards
mounted in the MultiRack at your central office site and our Abeo
desktop LAN extenders at remote offices or subscriber sites. The
standalone desktop units include a 4-port LAN switch, thereby removing
the need for external switches or hubs at smaller remote sites.
All the cards use HDLC encapsulation, ensuring maximum throughput
over the WAN link, and they take their clock from the attached DTE
device. The card X.21 interface is presented as a DB15 DTE connection
and the V.35 card as a 34-way M-rack DTE connector. An external cable
can be used to convert the X.21 interface to an EIA-530 interface and the
X.21 port can be used in a dual-clock EIA-530 mode.

covering the 4-wire physical interface
and digital signaling specification for
transmission at 2.048 Mbps (E1). G.703
now also includes specifications for U.S.
1.544-Mbps T1 but is still generally used
to refer to the European 2.048-Mbps
transmission interface.

TECH SPECS
Functionality is connecting 120-ohm
twisted-pair cable to 75-ohm unbalanced coax
equipment.
But the BLACK BOX Balun Mate II’s added
flexibility is its 1.6/5.6 coax connectors, so both
the TX and RX signals can be sent over a single
length of twisted-pair. What’s more, the Balun
Mate II features transformer isolation to
protect G.703 devices from harmful ground
loops.
The Balun Mate II enables carriers and enterprise LANs to standardise on 120-ohm STP,
even though some equipment may have
unique E1 terminations. The 1.6/5.6 coax
connectors are especially useful for telcos and
networks in Australia and France to terminate
their E1 connections.
With its low-profile design, the Balun Mate
II takes only 2U of space in a 19” rack. It
enables you to match impedance and signal
characteristics of up to 16 dual-coax connections with up to 16 STP connections.
Speed — 2.048 Mbps
Temperature Range — 0 to 50OC
Transformer Isolation — Up to 500 volts AC/DC

120-ohm twisted-pair equipment without
additional AC power or batteries.
Supporting E1 data rates up to 2.048 Mbps,
the Slimline G.703 Balun Rack matches signal
impedance and pulse shapes bidirectionally according to the CCITT G.703 standard.
The 120-ohm connections are presented as
individual RJ-45 connectors and on a single 64pin AMP Champ (telco) connector. The rack has
a reversible cover and standard 19” (48.3-cm)
mounting ears and can be mounted with either
the coax or RJ-45 connectors facing out.
NOTE: The AMP 64-pin connector and RJ-45
sockets are wired in parallel. Only one
connection type may be used at a time.

Coax
Twisted-Pair
Use G.703 75-120 Adaptors to connect your
G.703 network to your shielded, twisted-pair
equipment.
These adaptors address the open network
provision (ONP) requirement that European
post, telephone and telegraph (PTT) authorities
offer 120-ohm twisted-pair terminations to
their customers.
Use the adaptors to convert the balanced
G.703 signals from your bridges and routers to
unbalanced G.703 signals. So you can use your
75-ohm coax hardware and communicate with
100-ohm or 120-ohm twisted-pair equipment.
The adaptors convert signals bidirectionally
too.

•
•
The MTU9012 connects switches and routers
to a structured E1 G.703/G.704 2.048-Mbps
leased line. Connecting a LAN bridge or router
to a 2-Mbps leased line requires a G.703
interface.
The MTU9012 spans the gap between the
synchronous interface of a bridge or router and
the E1 leased line on a fractional E1 basis of
64-kbps per timeslot. A maximum of 31
timeslots can be configured for a single E1 line.
If timeslot 16 is bypassed, a maximum of 30
timeslots can be accomodated.
The MTU9012 offers a V.35 interface and
BNC or RJ-45 connectors for the E1 Line
interface and is configured by setting
externally accessible bit-switches.

Black Box Explains
G.703 technology - save money without compromising connectivity.
Installing G.703 technology has traditionally been an expensive
outlay. The interface cards for branded routers tend to be very
expensive. However, more common interfaces such as X.21, V.35,
RS-449 or RS-530 are much less expensive. This is because the chipsets
required to make up an X.21 interface are readily available at far less
cost than G.703 equivalents.
Most telcos or telecom companies provide their Wide Area
Networks termination via a G.703 interface. These services throughout
Europe are presented to the user as E1 G.703 on either a pair of BNC
connectors (unbalanced 75 ohm) or on an RJ-45 connector (balanced
120 ohm). The speed is typically 2.048-Mbps or N x 64K up to 1.984
Mbps.
The most cost-effective solution is to purchase a router with a
standard serial interface such as X.21 or V.35 and a Black Box G.703-toX.21 converter. This will give a G.703 connection for the Wide Area
Network and present the router with the required serial interface. The
cost saving here can be huge.
The basic interface conversion is from G.703 to a choice, or
combination, of X.21, V.35, RS-449 and RS-530 standards. Within this,
Black box offers two main product streams of G.703 converters. These
are framed and unframed. Unframed converters offer full 2.048-Mbps
data stream conversion and are suitable for all unstructured circuits
such as E1, etc.
Framed converters enable G.704 circuits/services to be utilised at
speeds from a single 64K timeslot to 1.984-Mbps utilising all 31 available timeslots, or any N x 64K number between the two.
All the framed converters enable independent settings for CRC-4 (a
basic form of error checking used on framed or structured services),
data and clock inversion and all will enable the user to configure the
units to either master or slave clocking.
All of the converters connect to either a balanced (RJ-45) or
unbalanced (pair of BNCs) line. All are mains powered; however, some
are also available with a -48VDC supply instead, ideal for switch room
environments. Some units will support SNMP (Simple Network
Management Protocol) management, offering the user the
opportunity to monitor the quality of the connectivity provided.
For larger sites where multiple conversions are required, Black Box
offers several ranges of 19” (48.3 cm) mounted chassis-based solutions,
again with multiple power options and some with SNMP management
available.
Most units are configured through a combination of DIP switches
and jumpers, with some units providing the options of using VT100
style console access.
If you require help with configuration or would like Black Box to
preconfigure these units for you, then please do not hesitate to
contact us.

expensive single-mode interface. The Opticon SM Fibre Converter spans
the gap between the multimode interfaces commonly available for use
within a building and the single-mode fibre used for connection to the
local exchange.

MXU1100
The head office requires a full STM-1
connection, while the remote office sites
require only fractional STM-1 connections.
Because the bandwidth requirements
between the head and regional office are
high, a GFP session is configured to use
100 Mbps by concatenating 48 VC-12
tributaries. A further 10 VC-12s are
directed to the larger branch office, giving
20-Mbps bandwidth, while 5 VC-12s are
directed to the smaller office giving a
10-Mbps connection.
The Black Box G.703 Ether Mux
simultaneously supports up to eight E1 feeds
and up to eight Ethernet 10/100BASE-T feeds
over multimode or single-mode fibre. This can
be a private fibre connection laid between two
points with a G.703 Ether Mux at each end of
the link, or it can be used as a carrier Service
Provider product delivering multiple E1 and
Fast Ethernet over an SDH network.
Generic Framing Procedure (GFP)
encapsulation along with virtual concatenation
(VCAT) is used for efficient transportation
across the fibre and with VC-4/VC-3 or VC-12
granularity and Link Capacity Adjustment
Scheme (LCAS), it offers maximum benefit to
both service providers and end users in terms
of flexibility and bandwidth optimisation.
The G.703 Ether Mux supports IEEE 802.3x
flow control on all 10/100 ports to prevent
traffic loss when available bandwidth is
reduced. The management of the product can
be done either locally (via the console port) or
remotely (via the Ethernet management port
using SNMP or Telnet).
The Black Box G.703 Ether Mux offers the
capability of extending multiple LAN segments
across an SDH network. The G.703 Ether Mux1000 offers LAN + E1/T1 transport.
The G.703 Ether Mux presents LAN ports as
fully autosensing 10/100BASE-T interfaces with
manual override, thereby supporting any LAN
network infrastructure. It offers eight
independent LAN interfaces, each of which
may be transported to a remote location via
the SDH infrastructure.
The G.703 Ether Mux supports large frames
of up to 4096 bytes and is protocol and
payload transparent. It will pass VLAN tagged
frames, including “Q in Q” double tagged
frames and CISCO ISL, transparently end to

• X.21/V.11 serial port for DTE devices.
• Long range over unshielded twisted pair
(UTP) cable.
• Warranty — 1 Year.
The new multi-interface G.SHDSL Voice and
Data Multiplexor from Black Box enables users
to send E1, X.21 and LAN traffic over twisted
pair copper cable using the G.SHDSL standard
ITU G.922.2. The unit can use a single pair or
two pairs of copper cable to achieve speeds of
up to 2.304 Mbps (single pair) or 4.068 Mbps
(two pairs), and each of these data rates can be
broken down into multiple 64 kbps time slots.
This enables the bandwidth to be divided
between each of the available interfaces
simultaneously up to the total available.
The E1 port is presented as G.703/G.704 120
Ohm RJ-45 female connector and can be
configured to handle framed data — ideal for
PBX communication, or unframed data —
suitable for most other uses.
The X.21 serial interface is presented as a
DB15 way D-Type female port configured as a
DCE, but can also be configured for other
interface types by using a suitable adaptor
cable.
The Ethernet port is presented as an RJ-45
female connector and supports 10BASE-T
connections. The port can be configured to
support either destination filtering or no
filtering.

Black Box VDSL Quadband technology gives you more reliability,
stability and performance than other solutions on the market. More than
that, this is a complete system to build single connections or VDSL
networks with numerous ports.
VDSL Quadband Extender Kit
The MEG101AE-R2 is a complete set with one transmitter and one receiver that is completely plug-and-play. Your connection is completely
transparent.
VDSL Quadband 8-Port Switch
The MEG801AE-R2 is the small combination unit. Giagbit Ethernet
ports (10/100/1000) enable you to bring enough network bandwidth into
the switch. The second Gigabit Ethernet port is ideal for cascading an additional VDSL Quadband switch. For simple and easy installation, all line
and phone connections are RJ-11. The switch has complete SNMP management features to maintain and control your VDSL network.
VDSL Quadband 24-Port Switch
Use MEG2401AE-R2 if you need more ports and more port delay density. In just 1U, you can start 24 VDSL lines. The 24-port switch has Gigabit
Ethernet ports and complete SNMP management as well, but operates
with Telco (RJ-21) connectors.

VDSL Quadband Receiver
These are the single receivers to connect to the 8- and 24-port
switches. It’s a complete system with investment protection. Since the
receiver for the single connection kit is exactly the same for usage with
the switches, you can easily migrate from one to more connections. There
is no need to buy a complete new system.
Mounting Options
The transmitters and receivers are sized for desktop use. Alternatively,
you can mount them to DIN RAILs by ordering DIN-RAILMC2 and
MEG101-DIN for each transmitter or receiver. The switches are intended
for rack mounting, and brackets are included.

Up to 600 metres: 24 Mbps symmetrical.
Up to 1100 metres: 15 Mbps symmetrical.
Up to 1900 metres: 5 Mbps symmetrical.
How much bandwidth you get and how far you can go depends on
the quality and diameter of your wires. Also, every cross connect you
have in between limits the distance. Due to the advanced Quadband
technology, VDSL lines running nearby do not influence each other like
with standard VDSL technologies. Quadband means that the VDSL
devices detect used frequencies and select from different frequencies to
use for transition.

SIMULATION
Satellite Simulator 3
Advanced Serial and IP Satellite Simulation.
Save 20%
off list price
valid until 30/06/09
The Satellite Simulator 3 builds on Black
Box’s many years experience in the field of
satellite link simulation. Satellite operators
these days have a wealth of technologies at
their fingertips, but as networks such as
Inmarsat BGAN, Vipersat or iDirect push
boundaries in capability, so users need to
address their applications ability to be
supported over such networks.
Even so, most operators still utilise a mix of
serial and IP satellite networks. The Simulator
3 addresses both types of environment,
incorporating both serial link simulation as
well as IP satellite network simulation in the
one, handheld device.
Based on the existing V50plus platform,
the Simulator 3 incorporates a specialist
software platform which delivers incredible
testing functionality - from the most basic,
reliable point-to-point links up to 5Mbps
through to emulating multinode IP networks,
with restricted QoS, packet or bit errors and
of course, satellite delay.
The Simulator 3 can be ordered with just
the serial functionality, or with both the serial
and the IP functionality enabled.
Getting Simulated
The Simulator 3 is a simulation tool
capable of representing a baseband
synchronous satellite WAN link between two
ports. It can operate at rates up to 5.12 Mbps
and is capable of introducing representative
delays of up to 10 seconds from end to end,
whilst also injecting errors or packet
impairments according to a highly versatile
range of rates and distributions. The unit may
be operated either with fixed settings for
constant simulation tests or from internal
scripts which allow the user to design specific
profiles where the Simulator 3 provides a
powerful and accurate means of testing the
robustness of a system or application before it
is deployed over live satellite bandwidth.
The base unit presents the same
connectors for each port, with a high-density
15-way D-type port for serial connection
together with a 10/100BASE-T Ethernet jack
for IP LAN connection at each end of the box.
The unit accepts 12VDC power and has a
locking mini-DIN connector for RS-232
management and control. An option slot at
each end of the enclosure can house an 8-way
10/100BASE-T Ethernet switch module, which
replaces the 2 standard ports with 16 for
added connectivity between the two LANs. A
Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) version of this
module is also available.
Serial Simulation
The Simulator 3 benefits from the same
wide range of interface standards (V.11, V.35,
• Two serial ports (user/software selectable
interface).
• Two 10/100 BASE-T ports (original 16 port
version).
• Various packet and QoS based scenarios.
• 5Mbps max data rate.
• Delay up to 10 seconds.
• Constant, Random and Gaussian errors.
• Asymmetric delays, errors and data rates.
• Scripting capabilities.
RS-232, RS-449, RS-530) as the multiplexer
products and may similarly be configured for
DCE or DTE presentation; these parameters
may be set independently on each port by
software selection. All data received on Port 1
is transmitted by Port 2 and vice versa, with
simulation parameters being applied
independently to each data stream. Clocking
flexibility is provided either to allow the unit
to generate the port clock itself or to onwardlink it to the other port. The data rate may be
configured over a range from 1200bps to
5.12Mbps, with the rates of any external
clocks being calibrated and displayed
continuously.
Fixed delays are configurable for each
data stream over the range from 10ms to 10s
in steps of 1ms. The unit keeps track of the
actual delay between the ports if the
difference between the actual and
configured delay exceeds a threshold as a
result of external clock variation, then the
data-stream is reset to restore the delay to
the configured value.

TimeNet provides a low-cost solution to the
problem of providing accurate reference time
signals for CCTV recording equipment.
CCTV and digital video recorder (DVR)
installations require accurate reference time
signals for synchronisation of system clocks to
ensure that they are always set at precisely
the right time. It is crucial that all recrodings
are accurately time-stamped, especially for
evidential purposes. Many DVR products,
especially those which are PC-based, have
inaccurate internal clocks which drift by many
seconds per week. Considering that DVR
systems may be left unattended for months
on end, it is easy to see that the time settings
can end up being in error by many minutes.
The traditional solution to providing an
accurate reference time has been to use an
atomic clock radio receiver or GPS sensor
linked to an expensive rack-mounted master
clock server, typically with serial-only output.
Network output versions tend to be even
more expensive. For this reason, master
reference clocks are normally only used in
very high-end installations such as city centres,
airports and prisons. timeNet integrates the
GPS receiver and master NTP clock server into
a single device which can be directly
connected to the network. TimeNet is
extremely compact, can be wall-mounted,
uses very little power and is less than half the
cost of competing solutions.
valid until 30/06/09
TimeNet installation and setup
The time server unit is very simpe to install
and set up. The GPS antenna is included with
the TimeNet product. The antenna itself is
provided with a self-adhesive surface which
can be fixed to any window which has a view
of some sky (to pick up the GPS satellite
transmissions). The TimeNet unit can be
positioned anywhere within the 3m reach of
the antenna lead, and may be conveniently
wall-mounted with the integral brackets
supplied.
TimeNet is then connected to the network
through its RJ-45 connector directly to the
CCTV/DVR network using a standard CAT5
cable (up to 100m long). The TimeNet setup
program is run on any Windows PC, and the
only parameter to set is the desired IP address
of the TimeNet device. This completes the
time server installation. Any DVR or other
NTP-compatible network devices can now be
programmed to get their NTP time signals
from the IP address of the TimeNet server.
About GPS
GPS is a global satellite system used
primarily for position location, using very
accurate atomic clock references. GPS signals
are far less prone to interference than
traditional national radio clock signals. Thus
TimeNet is a universal solution which can be
used anywhere in the world.

About Time Zones
UTC is effectively a GMT reference time
and TimeNet provides this via NTP as a
universal reference. It is the task of the
network client (i.e. DVR or other client device)
to look after the local time zone setting for
the country or zone location, including any
local or national variations to daylight savings
time or equivalent.
About UTC Time
Universal co-ordinated time is an official
world wide atomic clock standard for time,
agreed by national standards around the
world. UTC time copes with variations in the
earth’s rotation by the introduction of
leap-seconds at predefined intervals. GPS time
references incorporate this automatically.
Therefore TimeNet will continously provide
an accurate UTC clock reference
automatically.
About NTP
NTP stands for Network Time Protocol and
is a universal standard for time
synchronisation of computers or other devices
on a network. TimeNet is NTP-compatible and
acts as a time server for any NTP-enabled
client.
Setup Program
The simple setup program connects to
TimeNet by entering the default IP address.
The required IP address is simple entered and
applied.

Keeping accurate time is important when
you have widespread networks or automted
industrial devices. Without accurate
timestamps, who knows when that error
message came in and what time that
transaction took place? You can’t rely on
computer clocks - they can be off by as much
as five minutes a day.
The GPS Network Time Server is an
automated time distribution that accurately
and consistently sets the time on all your
network computers from servers to desktop
computers. It does this by getting the correct
time from the GPS satellite constellation and
then using Network Time Protocol (NTP) to
distribute it throughout your network.
The Tabletop model (LEG9090AE) has a
GPS antenna desgined to be placed indoors
next to a window.
The DIN Rail and Rackmount models
(LEG9092AE and LEG9095AE) use an outdoor
(IP65) antenna that can be located up to 200
metres from the time server. The GPS signal is
transmitted to the time server over twisted
pair cabling.

Bundling DSL lines in DSLAMs.
Today, with more than 750 million sites around the world wired
for telephone service, the basic infrastructure for Digital Subscriber
Line (DSL) is already in place. Implementing DSL is mostly a matter of
getting the proper hardware to the customers, telcos, ISPs and other
providers.
Hardware considerations for DSL service can range from the relatively simple to the extremely complex. Residential DSL customers
have simpler hardware needs: a home computer, a DSL modem, an
Ethernet connection and maybe a microfilter or a Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) splitter. Simply ordering a DSL service can get
all or most of these needs taken care of.
But for telcos, ISPs and campus networks, implementing a DSL
system is a bit more complicated, and most of it rests with the primary hardware that bundles the DSL lines for transport over a highspeed network—the Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexor, or
DSLAM.
The DSLAM’s form
Physically, the DSLAM’s design is fairly
simple. Most DSLAMs are large metal boxes
into which different modules, or blades, are
placed, depending on the type of DSL line.
DSLAM boxes are designed to take anywhere from 14 to 48 blades with port densities from 144 in an average-sized DSLAM to
579 in a large cabinet.
The tall, thin blades resemble large PC
cards and slide into the front of the DSLAM.
A blade typically handles anywhere from 1
to 24 DSL lines, and each blade handles a
specific DSL type. The DSLAM also has one
or more backhaul (or management) blades
to handle inbound and outbound DSL signals.
The DSLAM’s function
Early DSLAM boxes simply grouped the
different DSL lines and passed them on to
an ATM switch for backhaul services over
Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, E1/T1, E3/T3 or ATM
lines. They usually used ATM or PPP circuits
for customer connections. In terms of DSL
services, this is still the DSLAM’s basic function. But
with a rapidly growing DSL market and the
significant differences in type of service and
quality requirements, more advanced models (known as high-end or next-generation
DSLAMs) are being manufactured.
Some high-end DSLAMs incorporate
routing or IP addressing functions. Others
also use ATM switching fabrics, which enables them to take advantage of ATM’s
unique qualities: traffic shaping, prioritisation and Quality of Service (QoS). High-end
DSLAMs also typically have a high port density, often as high as 24
or more per blade. (Models with low port
densities [1 to 12 per blade] that have none
of these advanced functions are known as
low-end DSLAMs.) These more advanced
28
features mean providers can give their customers a wider range of DSL services and
more accurately address their needs.
Also, DSLAMs are now being made to
withstand harsher environmental conditions
so they can be installed away from the
telco—and closer to the customer—in a
curbside box or on a pole, thus shortening
the “last mile” and expanding the ability of
service providers to reach new customers.
How a DSLAM works
As DSL signals from users go to and from
the DSLAM, the frequencies below 4.0 KHz
(voice) are shaved off with a POTS splitter or
a microfilter (likely a low-pass filter) and
sent on to the Public Switched Telephone
Network (PSTN). The higher frequency (4
KHz to 2.2 MHz) DSL data is routed by a
high-pass filter
to the DSLAM. In order to manage these
DSL lines, which contain large amounts of
data,
the DSLAM multiplexes the data into a single, manageable signal. The DSLAM also demultiplexes these signals for transmission
to the DSL subscriber.
This information then crosses the
DSLAM’s backplane to the management
module, which pulls together the rest of the
DSL signals from other blades with a trunking function. From this module, the information is sent to an
ATM, Frame Relay or Layer 3 IP switch, or
some other unit that provides access to a
high-speed network. Or, in the case
of a high-end DSLAM, this switching function is handled in the DSLAM.
In either case, this stream of high-speed
information travels to the Central Office
(CO), typically over an ATM, E1, E3 or OC-3
line. Once the signals are sent over the network, they go through the CO’s routers and
to the Internet.
The multiplexing process
After the DSL lines enter the DSLAM
through their individual modules, each module performs a multiplexing function on the
DSL signals. Think of it this way: A DSLAM
has three separate DSL lines coming into
it—an ADSL line from a home user (A), an
HDSL line from
a small business (B), and an SDSL line from a
campus network (C). In order to move this
information efficiently, the DSLAM will take
a bit or a word from A, then from B, then
from C. The unit then repeats this function—A, B, C, A, B, C and so on, weaving the
separate signals into one stream of data to
be sent across the high-speed network.
For example, a channelised T1 or E1
blade will use time-division multiplexing to
multiplex data. TDM is a technique that uses
predetermined, time-slot interchanges to interweave bits or bytes of each signal one
after another. When the data is going from
the DSL blade to the customer site, the
demux (demultiplexing) function is either
done by
the module itself or by a TDM demux box.
DSLAM considerations
In order to get the most from your
DSLAM, it’s important to consider flexibility
and scalability when you design your system.
Designing a DSLAM requires an accurate
anticipation of your users’ needs, especially
if you’re operating a large-scale service
provider. You need to anticipate how many
business and residential customers you’ll
have and what kind of service they’ll need.
Additionally, you have to leave room for expansion of your service.
