MBA 130th ANNUAL CONVENTION June 21
Facing Forward
MBA 130th ANNUAL CONVENTION
June 21 -24, 2016 · grand hotel · mackinac island
Michigan Bankers . . .
The MBA Annual Convention remains the premier banking
industry event in our state as well as one of our most
cherished traditions. Join us this year as we celebrate MBA’s
130th anniversary.
The convention is designed with your bank’s entire executive
team specifically in mind. MBA will feature the latest
resources and information on relevant issues surrounding
our industry.
Our theme is…Facing Forward. As an industry, we do so
in 2016 with pride and a renewed sense of optimism about our state’s future. Bankers
have always been an integral part of our state’s economy and we always will. This year’s
convention celebrates our history, acknowledges our industry’s leadership and prepares
us to better serve our customers and communities in the future. Regardless if this is
your first MBA Convention, fifth, or 25th, I invite you to join us as we network with peers,
discover new opportunities and enjoy the beauty of Mackinac Island.
Patty and I look forward to seeing everyone in June.
Sincerely,
MBA Chairman and President, Baybank, Gladstone

The Impact of the CFPB on Small and Regional Banks from

However, smaller and regional banks should not overlook the power Congress
gave to the CFPB. This presentation will discuss the regulatory background and
authority given to the CFPB, its organizational structure, how the CFPB
discharges its authority, how the CFPB differs from prudential regulators,
how the CFPB collaborates with states attorneys general and why lending
issues, disparate impact and the collection of debt will be important issues that
cannot be overlooked by MBA members.

101 Things That Happened on the Mackinac Bridge
Sponsored by Cinnaire
An entertaining, informative presentation about Michigan’s iconic five-mile
span that has seen historic, tragic, and hilarious events. Since construction
began in 1954, the Mackinac Bridge has withstood gale-force winds, the
pressure of crushing ice flows and blinding snowstorms. Since opening in 1957,
it has been struck by lightning and hit by an airplane and a ship – yet still
stands as perhaps the safest five miles of I-75. Take a trip through the first
six decades of the bridge’s history and you’ll experience unusual crossings,
triumph and tragedy. Parades of vehicles and pedestrians have crossed over
the Mackinac Bridge and flotillas of ships have passed under it. Hear the
stories, see the photos and meet the people who have made this engineering
wonder a symbol of the state of Michigan.
Speaker: Mike Fornes, Historian

Keys to 2016 and Beyond
It is time to make money, have fun, and build value. That being said, there
are some sizeable potholes to avoid on the road to success. FinPro’s
presentation discusses why “RGR Drives Strategy Drives Value” is the
fundamental principle all community bankers must focus on during strategic
planning and how community banks will use this principle to grow shareholder
value.
Speaker: Scott Martorana, Executive Managing Director, FinPro
9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Spouse and Guest Program: Carriage Tour
An enjoyable and authentic way to view the island. The private tour includes
unique stops that you won’t see on any other tour.
10:00 - 10:30 a.m. Refreshment Break with Exhibitors
Sponsored by Andrews Hooper Pavlik PLC
10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Community Bank Marketing. Welcome to the New Normal
$450 to open a checking account? Same day business loan funding? Welcome
to the new marketing normal. Chase and OnDeck have something else in common: by design or not, their brand names imply speed. And whether speed comes through helpful mobile alerts or fast loan decisions, it’s an increasing powerful definition of convenience. Meanwhile, on highway billboards, community banks continue to duke it out as the oldest bank in town with the happiest customers. A change is needed! This eye-opening session will shed light on where your marketing dollars can add bottom-line value and increase client satisfaction.
Speaker: Kelly A Brown, CEO and Managing Partner, American Deposit Management
11:30 a.m. – Noon
Engaging Employees in their Health Care - An Investment Strategy for Recruitment, Retenetion and Your Bottom-line
Employees in every company ask the same question when management
introduces something new: “What’s in it for me?” When trying to engage
employees in their health care, the focus should be on how it helps them. With
the growing epidemic of chronic disease - employers are going to continue to
be challenged to offer affordable and effective benefits for their employees. It
is imperative that employers begin to leverage strategies that not only engage
their workforce but helps them recruit and retain talent.
Speaker: Joan Budden, CEO, Priority Health

Rates Down: Slow & Painful
As Kurt Fritz has written in his Disciplined Investor
article,“The Market Will…”, the market will do what
hurts the most people the worst. Banks all across the
developed world are experiencing rates down; in fact,
in Bloomberg’s list of 31 countries comprising the
EMEA zone (Europe, Middle East and Africa), only six
countries have rates higher than the U.S. Kurt will
examine the impacts on portfolio performance in
this worst-case scenario. His aforementioned article
will be available.
Speaker: Kurt Fritz, Managing Director, Performance
Trust Capital Partners LLC
9:15 -10:00 a.m. Incident Response and Crisis
Communications - Will You be Prepared?
owing number
The gr and sophistication of attacks
against financial institutions requires leaders in
every function of an organization to anticipate a
variety of risks – whether operational, financial, or
technological risk. Being prepared for the
challenging communications and IT issues
surrounding today’s evolving cyber threats requires
having the right team in place and developing a
crisis management response plan.

period settings, exhibits and videos. Enjoy a panoramic view of the harbor.
Carriage Tours and Stables

drive-your-own carriage, available from local liveries. The new Grand Hotel stable, located minutes away in Surrey Hills is home to 12 horses
and open to the public. At 8,700 square feet, this working stable is a great way to see the horses up close, along with 20 antique carriages.
