Mayor David Wear
It’s my pleasure to welcome you and
your family to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee,
the center of fun in the Smokies.
My family tree has deep roots here. You might say that my ancestors
were among the area’s first visitors. Of course, Pigeon Forge has
changed a bit from those days, but it’s still a very special place,
full of fun and entertainment for all ages. The past few years have
been especially exciting for us with a number of new additions to our
town. Just last year we celebrated the opening of the Hollywood
Wax Museum and the amazing Wild Eagle coaster at Dollywood.
There’s more to come in 2013.
Dollywood’s Splash Country will open RiverRush, Tennessee’s first
water coaster. The LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge will house large
events and conferences. At Wear Farm City Park, you’ll find sports
fields, walking trails and picnic areas. The goal of Pigeon Forge
and all of our businesses is to create outstanding entertainment
while maintaining a wholesome family atmosphere. When you visit,
we consider you part of our family and want you to come back
to see us often.

in Pigeon Forge
RiverRush at Dollywood’s Splash Country
RiverRush, Tennessee’s first and only water coaster, is coming to
Dollywood’s Splash Country. Get ready for the next generation
of water coasters, as you travel along a track of power climbs,
plunging drops, hairpin turns and dark tunnels, all with more than
a splash of rushing water. Opens May 2013.
Year of the Titanic Children
The Titanic Museum Attraction has designated 2013 as “The Year
of the Titanic Children” and features exhibits and events that pay
tribute to all of the 133 children who were passengers on the
famous ship.
Wonders of Flight
Get a bird’s-eye view of Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains
onboard a “flying” trolley. Wonders of Flight is a giant tethered
balloon with an open air gondola, equipped to carry up to 30
passengers nearly 400 feet into the air for a spectacular view
of the area. The balloon experience is located directly behind
WonderWorks near traffic light #0.

For a taste of NASCAR, visit the Blake Jones Racing Center, where

The former Smoky Mountain Speed Park has been completely
renovated and now has a circus theme and a new name. FunStop
Family Action Park is home to three new go-cart tracks and a
zip line, which join the popular SlingShot and SkyScraper. You’ll
also find a large selection of family/kiddie rides and many other

Old Time Pottery
Old Time Pottery, a favorite shopping spot in Pigeon Forge,
has re-opened its doors. Aisles are filled with great bargains on
housewares, home décor, seasonal decorations and so much more.

Things To Know Before You Go
While in Pigeon Forge, you’ll find that some of the best tips and advice
comes from the folks who live here. So, don’t be shy about asking us
questions. We love telling visitors about our hometown. Here are a few
tips to keep in mind when planning your trip.
Traffic Tips
Pigeon Forge is the site of a number of car shows and parades
throughout the year. We always expect large turnouts for these
events, and you should, too. You will experience traffic delays
during these activities. Most of our guests sit back and enjoy
the show. We suggest, however, that you note the dates of these
events and plan your visit accordingly. All events are subject
to rescheduling or cancellation. Please confirm with the Department
of Tourism at 1-800-251-9100.
Road constructions and/or sheer volume also can cause traffic
delays for both north and southbound traffic. Consider an early
morning or late afternoon departure time to avoid delays when
leaving town.

Pigeon Forge is located in the Eastern Time Zone. Tennessee
changes to Daylight Saving Time on the second Sunday in March
and reverts to Eastern Standard Time the first Sunday in November.

What’s the weather like in Pigeon Forge?
The climate in Pigeon Forge is close to perfect. Summer days are
warm, with average daytime temperatures around 85 degrees.
Winter is moderately cold, with average temperatures of 40
degrees. Casual attire is encouraged for almost all activities.
Light clothing for summer and layers for winter work well. Take
a jacket if you’re heading to the mountains. Even during the summer
months, temperatures at higher elevations tend to be cooler.

Can I get cell phone service in the national park?
Cell phone signals are readily available in Pigeon Forge but can
be difficult to find in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Do restaurants and/or stores sell alcohol?
Beer may be purchased at several locations, including convenience
markets and grocery stores. Many Pigeon Forge restaurants also
sell beer and wine, and these establishments are noted in the
restaurant listings beginning on page 100. Hours of sales vary. Wine
also may be purchased at the Mountain Valley Winery.

Can I drive my golf cart on the streets of Pigeon Forge?
Usage of a traditional golf cart, defined as a motor vehicle designed
for operation on a golf course for sporting or recreational purposes
and not capable of exceeding speeds of 20 miles per hour, is not
allowed on public streets. A golf cart that is designed for on-road
use or one that is modified to meet requirements of the low- or
medium-speed vehicle and is registered as such, is allowed to
operate on streets where the posted speed limit is 35 mph or less.
In addition, the vehicle must be registered, licensed and insured.

I have a permit to carry a firearm. Is it okay to
bring my gun to Pigeon Forge?
Generally, Tennessee recognizes handgun carry permits issued
by any state; however, to lawfully carry a handgun in Tennessee
based upon a permit or license issued in another state, you must
be in possession of the permit or license anytime you carry the
gun in this state. Even though you have a permit and are authorized
to possess or carry a firearm, there are restrictions as to where
firearms may be carried. That information can be found at
handgunlaw.us/states/Tennessee.pdf.

Fun Time Trolleys
Pigeon Forge Fun Time Trolleys offer visitors an easy and affordable
way to get around. Our trolleys are equipped to accommodate
passengers in wheelchairs and can take you to more than 100 official
trolley stops in Pigeon Forge, as well as Gatlinburg and Sevierville,
for a modest fare. Trolley stops are located just a short distance
from restaurants, attractions, shops and theaters.
In November, December and January, during Pigeon Forge Winterfest,
our trolleys are decorated to add even more sparkle to town on the
Trolley Tour of Lights. A special guide will ride along as you tour the
Winterfest light displays to share stories about Pigeon Forge.

in town. However, only two are official, city-operated welcome
centers, designed to make your vacation enjoyable from
beginning to end. The Pigeon Forge Welcome Center, 1950
Parkway, is located at traffic light #0. The Visitor Information
Center, 3107 Parkway, is located at traffic light #5.

Pigeon Forge History
In the early 1900s, Pigeon Forge’s developmental years, a hub of
businesses clustered around the Old Mill. There was a bottling plant,
a cannery and a blacksmith shop, as well as thriving country stores
and a farmers’ supply enterprise. In the 1920s, the Pigeon River
Railroad operated here as an extension of the Knoxville, Sevierville
and Eastern line. During the decade that ended in 1930, the Old Mill
generated electricity for the town.
In the 1950s, a modern highway opened through town. Rental
cottages and cabins were opening by the river and small cafés were
servicing travelers on their way to the mountains during the few
months of the summer travel season.
Before the tourism explosion, there were still fields of green along
the Parkway. As development
progressed, residents chose
to incorporate and control
their own development
destiny. On April 4, 1961,
Pigeon Forge became a city.
The towering peaks of Mt.
LeConte still dominate the
southern horizon of Pigeon
Forge. Although the lofty
mountains have changed
little since the early Native
Americans followed the river
paths, Pigeon Forge has been

Changes in this city have made the town an entirely different place
than the residents knew. Today’s travelers experience the excitement
of the modern Pigeon Forge still with the familiar backdrop of the
Great Smoky Mountains.

community center include a large gymnasium, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a bowling center, racquetball courts,

with wheelchair lifts; a paratransit lift-equipped van is also available for next day service. For paratransit van pick-up

Pigeon Forge’s 1500-space Municipal Parking facility is the first “green” parking facility in Tennessee. Save fuel by
parking in the lot and riding the Pigeon Forge Fun Time Trolley to points throughout the city. The parking lot also allows
direct access to the Greenway pedestrian trails.

This lighted 1.5 mile trail (3 miles round trip) takes you through a quiet neighborhood, a rest plaza, and follows the
Middle Prong of the Little Pigeon River to the terminus at the city parking lot. Enjoy the quite walk, bike, or run
through a variety of terrain. There are numerous benches along the trail for those who wish and enjoy the scenery.

Planning and preparation are necessary when traveling with family pets. There are several accommodations listed in

accommodation choice prior to your arrival regarding their specific pet policies.
Before undertaking any trip, consult your veterinarian to be sure that all required vaccinations are up-to-date and to
receive a health certificate within 10 days of travel. Be sure your pet is properly identified with a current tag or microchip.
In addition to a standard identification tag, your pet’s collar should include a travel tag with information on where you are
staying while you are away from home. Should your pet become lost, this will allow you to be contacted locally. Have
both proof of rabies vaccination and a current health certificate with you when you travel.
