Streck Laboratories Completes New Research and Development
S U M M E R 2 0 0 6 Streck Laboratories Completes New Research and Development Building Vrana completed the new research and development building for Streck Laboratories in only a year after preparing a preliminary estimate for the project. Finished on schedule, the 48,000 SF twostory structure was built of cast in place concrete and structural steel. The interior houses new research and development labs. An enclosed walkway ties it to Streck’s existing production facility. Vrana was well enough under budget to provide additional value to the project by adding a parking lot and mechanical system upgrades. Because of Vrana’s ontime and underbudget performance, Streck recently awarded Vrana with the contract for Phase II of the project—the renovation of their existing facilities. Streck’s stateoftheart laboratories provide testing and development for new products. Research conferencing areas are located along the perimeter of laboratory spaces. I680 and West Maple Road Interchange Sets Records for Vrana As part of over 25,000 cubic yards poured on the project, Vrana completed the largest single concrete pour in one day in Vrana history during the construction of the I680 and Maple Street interchange. Utilizing our latest equipment addition, the CMI SF 450 Slipform paver, we also set a record for the biggest concrete pour from a single Omaha plant of Ready Mix Concrete Company (Maple Street). The new CMI SF 450 paver achieved outstanding pavement smoothness that helped finish the project on schedule and under budget. See the CMI SF 450 in action in the photo below.

A walk down the main corridor gives you a view into the main laboratory spaces at Streck Labs. The connector from the labs to Streck’s production facility also provides access to an internal courtyard. Streck Laboratories, continued histology products for the clinical laboratory. Streck Laboratories maintains 65% of the world market of hematology controls through a combination of Streck label, private label, and patent licenses. CL Enterprises is acting as the owner's representative on the project. DLR Group is the architect and engineer for the project. Vrana Awarded New Projects! Vrana constructed the Rotella's then purchased the existing property and adjacent building. Vrana was brought back on board and gave preliminary design budgets. Once the final design was completed, Vrana constructed the new 65,000 SF facility between the two existing buildings while keeping the current bakery in operation. Providing accurate project cost estimates prior to any design being completed was critical as all design was done in house. Project budgets had to be correct since funding was only issued if production requirements and predetermined budgets were met. Rotella’s bakery production floor is a fully automated system.
