January Newsletter and Calendar
Meezan School Newsletter – January 2015 Dear Families and Friends, December was a month of special events and celebrations. Students enjoyed buying treats to support school events at our Bake Sale. Thank you to all the families who generously prepared goodies to donate to this activity. Due to unexpectedly warm weather, our Winter Festival was held indoors. Students gathered to view an educational film and enjoy popcorn and other snacks. We are planning to continue the festival in February with a fun-filled day of tobogganing and other winter activities. Upcoming Events January 29 Pajama Day We would like welcome everyone back from holidays and wish you peace, happiness, and good health in 2015. Safe Driving and Parking Please drive with caution in our school driveway and parking lot. Students tend to be inattentive when they are outside the building and may not follow safety rules. When you drop off your children in the morning, be alert for youngsters. Rather than reversing your vehicle out of the driveway, make a safe U-turn in the vacant parking area at the rear of the school. Please ensure that your children enter the school. At dismissal, please enter the building to pick up your children. Remember: safety comes first! Contact Us Meezan School 286 Water Street Guelph, ON, N1G 1B8 Telephone: (519) 265-0306 Written Notes Please send your child to school with a written note if there will be a change to his or her regular dismissal time or destination. Unfortunately, we are not able to relay messages to students during school hours. A written note to the teacher will serve as a reminder and excuse slip for attendance purposes. www.meezanschool.com Visitors to our School In the interests of safety, we ask that visitors to the school report to the main office upon arrival. Please assist us by following this procedure at all times. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful meal together at the conclusion of the activities. In Our Community Dress for the Weather Brrr – it’s cold outside! Please ensure your children are dressed appropriately, as they go outside for recess on a daily basis. Students need to wear proper winter jackets and snow pants, gloves or mittens, scarves, and hats or tuques. It’s practical for children of all ages to have an extra pair of socks and mittens in their backpacks. Please label all clothing and ask your child to check the Lost and Found for any missing items. Volunteers Needed! We need families to help with our programming and co-curricular activities – both during the school day and after hours. Please contact us to select the volunteer opportunities that best suit your family. Volunteers make a difference! Bake Sale Mrs. Niran’s students will have their first bake sale on Friday, January 23, 2015. Join the fun by bringing a special treat that your family enjoys. Please ensure no peanuts or tree nuts are in this baking, as we have several members of our school community with severe food allergies. If you are available to help with this event, please contact Mrs. Niran. Bake Sale Grades 6–8 Students We wish to thank to the Grades 6–8 students for providing delicious treats for our Bake Sale. We also appreciate all the parents who took time to bake. Our first bake sale was a great success! We look forward to the Primary Bake Sale in January! After School Program In response to requests from a number of our families, we will be introducing an after school program to support students who are unable to leave school at 3:15 p.m. Teachers will be available to provide additional help in classroom subjects to small groups of learners and on a one-to-one basis. Please sign up on the volunteer sheet if you are able to help our teachers with this new initiative. Inclement Weather Procedures Winter road conditions may necessitate bus cancellations and closures. Parents are encouraged to check the school website after 7:00 a.m. for updates. CJOY Radio (1460 AM) and Magic 106.1 (CIMJ FM) also broadcast similar information. Meezan School will be following decisions made by the Upper Grand District School Board for Division 1 schools (Yellow). Any decision to close the school will be posted on our website.
