Item 171-15 – The rarest Berthier straight line – 1798, Berthier LC straight line hammer 2 on a neat stampless folded
letter to Montreal. Paid 4½. Enclosed is a business letter written in French and relates to a transfer of currency
‘’Piastre d’Espagne’’. Piastre or piaster refers to a number of units of currency. The term originates from the Italian
for "thin metal plate". The name was applied to Spanish and Hispanic American pieces of eight, or pesos, by Venetian
traders in the Levant in the 16th century. $800.00
