The SferaFurniture collection is designed by the Swedish group of designers and
architects known as Claesson Koivisto Rune. By working collaboratively with Sfera,
they create contemporary interpretations of the Japanese spirit as seen through Scandinavian eyes.
Drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese materials, crafts and architecture,
Claesson Koivisto Rune create simple forms with the flexibility needed for today's urban lifestyle.

"The first seeds that would grow to be SferaFurniture were sewn in 2003. All the
designs that have come to characterise SferaFurniture’s distinctive output spring
from the intimate collaboration between our office and Sfera.
It all began during the intensive, year-long process of designing the multi-purpose
culture house, SferaBuilding, located in Gion, Kyoto.

Despite their reputation for simplicity, CKR's designs
are seldom devoid of sensuousness or warmth. They
work with warm colours, subdued motifs and organic
materials to infuse everyday objects with a natural,

unassuming beauty. The Sfera chair, for example,was
designed with a perforated metal surface enhanced
by a subtle motif of crisp leaves. Designs such as the
Bonbon suite of cushioned seating, footstools and
illuminating objects give free rein to bold pigments
and unexpected contours. Whether they craf t
d e s i g n s s o s p a r e th a t th ey t a ke m i n i m a li s m to a
higher level or deploy a kaleidoscope of unexpected
tex t u r e s , C K R 's d e s i g n s a r e c h a r a c te r i s e d by a
special tactility that appeals to the eye as well as to
the hand.

Designed to reflect the architecture of SferaBuilding in Kyoto, the chair is made of stainless
steel sheet perforated in the same leaf pattern as
the façade. Advanced manufacturing techniques
make this chair light weight and strong, yet
astonishingly thin. It is suitable for both in- and
outdoor applications.

Sfera's leaf pattern is printed on translucent fabric that softens and defuses light
like Japanese Shoji screen.As it gets blown
by a breeze its swaying figure recalls leaves
blown by the autumn wind and sunlight
shining through the leaves of trees. The
fabric is made by Amdahl's in Sweden.
This generous chair has characteristic bold
lines and geometric planes that resemble the
facets of gemstones. A natural compliment to
the Gem table, the chair's sleek design makes
it suitable for a wide range of interior settings.

This simple box form is a multi-functional
design created for a range of uses. Step can
stack to form a stepladder or a shelving unit,
or placed side-by-side to create low tables.
The random weave structure of this bamboo
design resembles a bird's nest. It is created
in collaboration with skilled craftsmen
based in Kyoto.
計算されたシンプルなボックスの形状は、踏み台として、
