INTRODUCTION
The logos in the manual were formally adopted by the Branding Committee in January 2008 and
introduced to the campus in Spring 2008.
SMCHS has two approved logos – the SM Logo and the Eagle Head – as well as the SMCHS Seal. The
SMCHS Graphic Identity Manual is a set of standards composed of a system of the two logos and seal,
as well as the official colors. When consistently applied in line with these guidelines, these elements will
work together to give all SMCHS communications a unified look.
Anytime a SMCHS logo is used in conjunction with an event, activity, team, group or organization, that
activity and its participants are representing Santa Margarita Catholic High School. It is important that all
members of the Santa Margarita family adhere to common graphic standards when producing any
materials – including print, digital, apparel and promotional products. This ensures production quality and
brand identity is always represented.
The following standards must be followed at all times when using a Santa Margarita logo and colors.
Students are not authorized to use any logo without belonging to an officially- sanctioned campus group,
team or club.
Permitted groups, faculty, staff, and teams should use the approved logos in accordance with the
standards that follow. All logo usage requests or questions should be sent to the Office of Communications

PRIMARY LOGO - SM Logo
The SM Logo is the primary identifier for Santa Margarita Catholic High School. This logo must be used
with all graphic elements in place, which includes the white cross in the “M.” The following standards
must be followed at all times when using a SMCHS logo. High resolution logos can be downloaded
at use: http://myportal.smhs.org/logos Logos are available in the following fomats: JPEG, TIFF, EPS,

EAGLE LOGO
The Eagle Logo is primarily used for athletic purposes but is also acceptable for informal apparel
and communiation. It is not considered appropriate for use on academic materials.
THE SEAL
SMCHS SEAL
The Seal is a replica of the coat of arms of Bishop William R. Johnson, the first Bishop of Orange. It was
his official seal and represented his ecclesiastical rank and the Diocese of Orange. The seal is not to
be used with any identifying text above or below it; the seal must stand alone. Use of the Seal must be

SM Logo Color Usage — Apparel
Use the terms Royal Blue or Vegas Gold when selecting apparel fabric, embroidery thread or tackle twill
applique. White is approved as an accent color on a garment, or for home uniforms. Ensure that screen
printing uses the ink colors PMS 287 or PMS 4515. Black is never an approved apparel color. Apparel
logos are all saved in a vector EPS format. Apparel has 10 logo options depending on the garment
color. These logo color variations are APPROVED FOR APPAREL ONLY, not printed materials. These
are the only approved color combinations that may be used. Light Gray and White apparel use the same
logos. Black is never allowed.

PRINTED MATERIALS
Whenever using a SMCHS logo or producing SMCHS branded printed materials, the approved school
colors must be adhered to during the production process.
MS Office
Special RGB color combinations have been created for using the logo in MS Office applications
such as Word, PowerPoint and Publisher as well as on a website. The logos for these programs
are in either the PNG or JPEG format. They are only the right color and resolution for use on
documents to be printed on a laser or inkjet printer, in presentations or on a website. DO NOT
SEND JPEG OR PNG logos when you have something commercially printed. To create
additional elements in your document such as borders, backgrounds or fonts that match the
official SM colors, type the RGB values (see page 5) for each color in the color palette of your program.
Black logos are only approved when the entire document is a single color black and white
printed document. Please see page 6 for the approved logo.
Printed Material
For commercially printed materials such as brochures, presentation folders, or other
collateral, please provide your vendor with an approved CMYK logo in the vector EPS format.
DO NOT SEND PNG OR JPEG logos to commercial printers.

When a SMCHS logo is used on printed materials using one-color process, black or royal blue ink must

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. If I am ordering new apparel, do I have to use a logo?
A. Please refer to page 8 of this manual to learn when you must use the logos and when you
do not have to use the logos.
Q. Where can I find the school logos?
A. All logos are available for download at http://myportal.smhs.org/logos If you are on
campus you may access the S:drive from any school computer and download the
logos. When downloading, please note that there are many different types of files. When working with a printer you will most likely need to send them the EPS format - you will find
this type of file on the S:drive. Contact the Office of Communications at [email protected] or 949-766-6000 ext. 1077 if you need assistance.
Q. The printer who I am working with has a question regarding the logo and the use of
colors, who can they talk to?
A. Any questions regarding the use of logos or the school colors should be directed to the Office of Communications at [email protected] or 949-766-6000 ext. 1077.
Q. I would like to create a game day shirt that my student-athletes can wear to school on the day of competition. Does the game day apparel need to be approved?
A. Yes, all apparel that is worn during school hours in place of the SMCHS school uniform must be approved by the Office of Communications in conjunction with the Dean’s Office. All game day apparel must be in compliance with the guidelines on page 8 of this manual, Approved Apparel In Place of School Uniform. Please note that you must complete a SMCHS Apparel Approval Form for each new piece of apparel - a copy of the form is provided at the end of this manual.
Q. I am a team parent and would like to create some spirit wear and different apparel items for the team. Who do I need approval from before printing the items?
A. A SMCHS Apparel Approval Form must be completed for each new piece of apparel. All sports related apparel must be approved by the Office of CommunicationsAll club/activities related apparel must be approved by the Communication’s Office. The form must have a signature from a head coach (sports) or advisor (clubs/activities), as well as the Office of
Communications prior to placing the order for apparel.

SMCHS Logo Usage/Branded Merchandise Approval Form
An SMCHS Logo Usage/Branded Merchandise Approval Form is required for each apparel item, merchandise and printed
material. Please provide all details per each item. Forms must be submitted each school year, even for re-orderd items.
The following information must be completed and signed by the head coach/advisor before submitting this form to the
Office of Communications. No team/club orders of apparel will be approved for payment by the Business Office without
completion and approval of the SMCHS Logo Usage/Branded Merchandise Approval Form prior to placing the order.
Please allow three business days for approval from the Office of Communications. Once your form has been processed
it will be returned to the head coach/advisor.
An illustrated mock-up of the apparel item created by the vendor is required for all apparel requests. A PDF proof of the
printed material provided by the print vendor is required for all printed material requests.
