A story
about wood
finishes
1832: At the start of the first industrial revolution, André Blanchon founded the
"manufactory", specialised in making fine dyes and colorants for Lyons' silk
manufacturers.
1900: The company stepped up production and branched out offering products for
leather and, even at this early date, finishes for wood.
1940:

Blanchon started to specialise in manufacturing paints and varnishes.
Blanchon became the first French manufacturer of varnish for wood floors.
First lacquer based on polyurethane resins.
Birth of Syntilor (Brand for DIY markets).
First 2 - component water-based
lacquer based on polyurethane
resins: the Intensiv is born!
2001: CTBA (French equivalent to TRADA)
Award for water-based products.
2002: Construction of Belmont factory.
2004: Improvement of Domessin factory.
2005: Blanchon stepped forward and actively supported the High Environmental
Quality® Approach and created the Environmental Quality Range including
wood floor varnishes, wood floor oil, wood floor oil special maintenance,
varnishes and wood stain.
2007: Beldis, new Blanchon state-of-the-art worldwide logistic center built in
France is fully operational. More than 10,000 pallets are now in permanent
stock at Beldis and up to 2,000 parcels can be sent per hour with a full
track-and-trace system to ensure a high level of service around the globe.
2010: Blanchon goes further with Minimal VOC & Ecolabel certified products:
Océanic, Quick-Drying Yacht Varnish, Non-drip Interior Varnish to name a few.
Now, more than 74 Blanchon products are Ecolabel certified and 61 comply
with the European Standard EN 71.3 “Suitable for children's toys”.
Blanchon was founded in France in 1832 and the successful family-run business
quickly expanded its activites worldwide. Blanchon has been on the market
ever since with over 7000 references and it is still innovating to make advances
in protecting wood while respecting people and the environment: clean factories,
solvent-free varnishes, water-based products, Ecolabel certified finishes, etc.
The idea that "the earth does not belong to us but has just been entrusted
to us by our children", in the words of Saint-Exupéry, is something we have been aware
of for a long time.
