CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP – COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Q1 FY2011 March 8, 2011 CENTRAL AMERICA AND CARIBBEAN BASIN EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT “Tour Rosa” – Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign In October 2010, Gildan launched a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign entitled the “Tour Rosa” (Pink Tour) at all of its facilities in Central America and the Caribbean Basin. During the Pink Tour, each of the facilities were decorated with pink ribbons and balloons, and the Company also arranged a “give away” of pink sweaters with the campaign’s logo. On-staff doctors made presentations about breast cancer detection and prevention, and answered numerous questions put forward by employees. More than 10,000 employees participated in the campaign. 2 CARIBBEAN BASIN – EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT “Juntos en Familia” – Dominican Republic In December, Gildan’s textile facility in Guerra held an activity called “Juntos en Familia” (Together as a Family) with its employees and their families. The activity offered the employees a series of health education lectures and dental consultations for children. Kids and adults enjoyed a day filled with games, food, raffles and contests. More than 3,000 employees and family members attended this event. 3 CENTRAL AMERICA – EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT Children’s Festival – Nicaragua Gildan has been celebrating the Children’s Festival at both of its sewing facilities since we started our operations in Nicaragua in 2004. The Festival, held in December, is dedicated to our employees’ children. This year, more than 3,000 boys and girls enjoyed a day filled with games, food, candies and other recreational activities. 4 CANADA – EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT Breakfast With Santa Claus Gildan Head Office employees and their families were invited to a breakfast on Saturday, November 20th, at Le bistro Gildan, located on the 32nd floor of the Company’s offices. Santa Claus distributed gifts to the children and after the breakfast, employees and their families gathered to watch the Santa Claus parade, along Ste. Catherine’s street. A great time was had by all. 5 GLOBAL CAMPAIGN – EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT World AIDS Day Between November 15th and December 15th, Gildan held a global campaign to raise awareness about HIV / AIDS. In conjunction with this campaign, numerous activities were held at Gildan’s various locations on World AIDS Day, which took place on December 1st. Head Office: • Red ribbon lapel pins were distributed to all employees to demonstrate support for HIV / AIDS awareness on December 1st. • Information posters prepared by the Canadian AIDS Society were posted on employee notice boards to educate employees on HIV / AIDS. 6 GLOBAL CAMPAIGN – EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT World AIDS Day (cont’d) In Central America: • The Samaritan’s Purse, an international organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world, was invited to speak about HIV / AIDS prevention and offer on-site HIV tests for employees at all of our facilities. • More than 9,000 employees participated in the campaign and 500 volunteered to be tested. 7 GLOBAL CAMPAIGN – EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT World AIDS Day (cont’d) In Central America (cont’d): • Gildan was one of only four companies, and the only manufacturer, to receive the “Building a Better World” Award, which recognizes organizations promoting policies, initiatives and information campaigns about HIV / AIDS as part of their corporate citizenship platform. The Award is given by the Honduran National Business Council (COHEP) and CHF International, a non-profit organization aiming to be a catalyst for long-lasting positive change in low and moderate income communities, helping them improve their social, economic and environmental conditions. 8 CENTRAL AMERICA – VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS Teletón Fundraising Campaign – Honduras Since 2004, Gildan has been supporting Teletón, a Honduran non-profit organization that supports people with mental and physical disabilities, through its annual fundraising event to finance its rehabilitation centers located across the country. Annually in December, Gildan develops an internal fundraising campaign along with its employees to maximize donations to this NPO. This year, the Company and its employees donated more than US $22,000 to Teletón, which was a record for Gildan for donations to this cause. 9 CENTRAL AMERICA – VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS “Regalando Sonrisas con Gildan” – Honduras Employees at two of our sewing facilities in Honduras (San Miguel and San Jose) have volunteered to develop the “Regalando Sonrisas con Gildan” (Giving Smiles with Gildan) campaign. In the month of December, just before Christmas, employees donated toys to children living in underprivileged communities surrounding Gildan’s facilities. More than 100 employees volunteered to participate in the delivery of more than 4,800 toys. 10 CENTRAL AMERICA – VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS “Senior Adult Day” – Nicaragua In December, Nicaraguans celebrated the “Senior Adult Day” during an afternoon filled with activities organized by the Nicaraguan Institute of Social Security (INSS), such as music, dance, poetry and games for the elder. This year, Gildan Rivas donated food for the 500 senior adults attending the event, and a group of employees volunteered to serve food during the event. 11 CARIBBEAN BASIN – VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS Christmas Lunch at Nursing Home – Dominican Republic In December, a group of employees from our textile facility in Guerra shared a Christmas lunch with 35 senior citizens living in the San Jose Nursing Home, which is located in close proximity to the facility. 12 CANADA – VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS Food Drive In December, Gildan’s Head Office employees in Canada participated in the non-perishable food drive for The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas basket campaign. Boxes to collect donations were identified at various locations at our Head Office. Employees were also invited to make a financial contribution. In total, two large boxes of non-perishable food items were donated and a total of $650 was raised. The Christmas baskets were distributed by The Salvation Army on December 21st and 22nd to families in need within the Montreal region. 13 14
