Litespeed Tech Feed: 2012 Pisgah
If you want a tried-and-true straight-gauged titanium
hardtail—without the usual titanium price—that also defies
gravity when climbing, manages XC adventures with ease and
shows off classic good looks while doing so, take home the
handcrafted 2012 Litespeed Pisgah.
In-the-know cyclists consider Litespeed the industry expert in titanium
craftsmanship for a reason. Rather than simply emulating the work of
other brands, Litespeed continues to handcraft new titanium models
with carefully considered tube shaping for the best performance. The
Pisgah’s geometry matches that of Litespeed’s esteemed titanium

Litespeed designed the Pisgah using 3AL-2.5V titanium tubing, as
it is the same alloy used for fabricating aerospace hydraulics. The
low-density alloy proves light and highly durable and is ideal for
maneuvering up singletrack switchbacks or simply navigating a
forgotten length of fire road. Plus, the alloy refuses to corrode, making
the Pisgah resistant to both extreme weather and dirt damage.
The Pisgah’s tapered, shaped and oversized tubing incorporate
stiffness and flex where needed. Litespeed T3 frames such as the Pisgah

Legendary Litespeed Titanium

Hall of Fame.”
Litespeed’s first major influence on
cycling occurred in 1986 when Litespeed
“introduced ‘perfected’ titanium bikes,”

like a banshee.” The 3AL/2.5V titanium tubing provides an

Dirty Talk
Litespeed answers the hard and fast questions about the Pisgah
Rider Q: How durable is the titanium Pisgah. I ride some pretty brutal terrain and need
a bike that will last.
LS: Aside from the strength of 3AL/2.5V, titanium has a high fatigue resistance. Fatigue
is the slow formation of a crack, but with the Pisgah, you’ll have peace of mind. Plus, ti
doesn’t rust or succumb to other types of deterioration.
Q: I’m building up my new Pisgah frame. What are the details that I need to know.
LS: Here are the specs: Standard press fit 1-1/8 head set, 31.6 seat post, 68mm English
thread BB. Enjoy your new ride!
Q: What’s up with the dimple on the down tube?
LS: On a mountain bike, the junction of the head tube and down tube is a high-stress
area. The down tube dimple not only allows for proper fork clearance but also
maximizes strength at this very important spot.
Q: What is the Litespeed titanium difference?
LS: Unlike several other manufacturers, Litespeed fabricates its own tubing and does
not supply tubing to other brands. Litespeed also creates a brushed finish as opposed
to a glass-bead blasted ti finish, which can compromise strength and blemish easily.
