Another Group 1 Victory in a Breeze
It took quite a while to crack our first Group 1 victory in Melbourne, but
Trust In A Gust gave us our second in a space of two weeks.
The Keep The Faith entire, backed up his win in the Sir Rupert Clarke
Stakes with an impressive win in the 1600m Toorak Handicap at
Caulfield.
Winning rider Brad Rawiller, had to forego the ride in the Sir Rupert
Clarke Stakes because he couldn’t make the 52kg, however he was back
aboard in the Toorak Handicap and gave “Breeze” a ten out of ten ride.
Brad tracked Solicit over from the wide barrier to sit just behind her for
the majority of the race.
At the top of the straight he took control of the race to hold off the fast
finishing Speediness and Desert Jeuney to win by ¾ of a length.
“It was just like the Rupert Clarke, this horse always has something to
give,” said Rawiller. “I was rapt for Damian Lane, he’s part of the team and
that was great. But I don’t think any of us could have envisaged he would
be winning these type of races.”
Weir was full of compliments after the race, “What a ride, what a great
horse to train; sound, tough and makes his own luck and the perfect sort
of horse for what trainers are looking for.”
“It’s great for everyone involved; all the staff at home, they work hard and
a great bunch of owners. Its just been a great ride for a lot of people.”

for me and we decided to race it with him

Stratum Star secured his first
black type race at Flemington
when winning the Listed
Yellowglen Vintage Stakes over
1400m.
Star, as he is known, debuted
for the stable with a third at
Bendigo in August and then
won his Maiden at Swan Hill. He ran a luckless second at Donald, before
he was given the opportunity to earn a black type race.
After securing the Listed Yellowglen Stakes by a long neck he won the
Listed Crown Lager Stakes on Caulfield Cup Day, even more
convincingly.
Both wins have seen him settle back in the field, with Brad guiding him
into clear running in the home straight. He appears to let down best
when he has a trouble free run out in the open.
Star will now be targeted at the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes on Derby
Day at Flemington.
Duble Barrel Win
There was no one more excited
than stable foreperson Angela
Taylor-Moy when Duble Barrel
Daisy won first up this
preparation at Echuca.
“Daisy” was bred by Angela and
her parents, Ron and Cheryl, at
their property in Stawell.
Daisy was aptly named as when
she was younger, and still now,
she quite often lets the back legs fly, with a double barrel.
With improvement still to come, she then won her next start at Ballarat,
when ridden by apprentice Aaron Mitchell.
Aaron rode the perfect race, settling just off the leaders. He peeled to the
outside coming around the turn and although it took her a few strides to
balance up, she hit the line strongly to win by 1 ¾ lengths.
Of course Angela was on course again and I think the highlight of the day
was Ang being interviewed by Sam Hyland after the race.
Her excitement exuberated, but Ang was a little disappointed when she
asked Sam if he had tipped Daisy and his reply was no. Oops Sam Wrong Answer.
Another For Nancy
The oldest registered racing colours in Victoria saluted again at Bendigo
when Amaverde clocked up another victory, winning the Victorian
Seniors Festival Showcase Benchmark 70 Handicap over 2400m.
Jordan Childs, who recently out rode his country claim, rode a bold race,
timing his run to absolute perfection.
Thank you to Nancy who generously supplies a BBQ and carrot cake after
each of his wins. Your generosity is greatly appreciated by all the staff!!

Wycheproof – Where Dreams come true
If you were to ask Harry Coffey
the significance of Wycheproof
Races on Derby Day, he would
probably tell you it’s where his
career started – riding his first
winner in front of all of his
family on a horse name Sauce,
which was owned and trained
by Darren.
The roar that day when Sauce passed the post first and returned to the
mounting yard was bigger than anything heard before.
Well another young man, Dayne Barry, Darren’s nephew, plans to kick off
his racing career there to. Not as the usual trainer or jockey, but as a race
caller.
Twelve year old Dayne, spends most of his time after school and on
weekends watching TVN, taking inspiration from his favourite caller Ric
McIntosh.
Over the past year though, Dayne has been turning the television down
and calling his own version of the races. He is also quite often heard by the
neighbours calling a phantom race in the back yard.
So if you’re not busy on Derby Day, our suggestion would be to make your
way to Wycheproof to hear this talented young man. Good Luck Dayne!!

Best Moment in Racing: Riding my
first winner at Wycheproof – Sauce,
owned and trained by D K Weir.
Wonderful Woody
Gotta Take Care added another two strings to his bow being awarded the
Australian Jumper of the Year and the Jumping Achievement of the Year
Award.
Woody only had the four jumps starts this season, winning three of them.
He won the Galleywood Hurdle, the Australian Hurdle and the Brendan
Drechsler Hurdle for the third year in a row.
Not a bad effort for a horse who wasn’t going to make it until he tried the
jumps.
Hussling way to Emirates
Lucky Hussler will be given an opportunity to
secure a Group 1 victory in the Emirates Stakes
on the final day of the Flemington Carnival.
Following three placings in his three starts for
the stable, the blinkers were applied for the
Group 3 Moonga Stakes.
“The horse has been racing well. Last start,
when he got to the front, he looked like he
needed blinkers. We obviously put them on at
the right time to get the right result,” said Weir following his win.
Glen Boss rode the perfect race, settling back after drawing barrier 13. He
circled the field rounding the home turn and it was all over from here, as
he cleared away to win by over 3 lengths, hard held.
Glen Boss dedicated the emotional win to young jockey Caitlin Forest, who
recently passed away following a bad race fall at Murray Bridge.
Racing Back At Ballarat
It was great to see the races return to our home track
earlier this month.
Dowling Forest track went under construction to lay a
new surface and eliminate the dip in the home straight.
Although we didn’t have a winner on the opening day,
the track was presented in perfect condition and raced
superbly.
Congratulations to Lachy McKenzie and his team for all
the hard work they have put in to get the races back up
and running at Ballarat. Bring on the Ballarat Cup!!!
Debut Win For La Passe
Four year old Street Sense mare La Passe finally made
her debut at Warrnambool. Not only did she win but
she did so in the most convincing manner.
Johnny Allen guided her to an easy two length win in
the Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate over 1100m, where
she showed the utmost professionalism throughout.
Having had a few niggly issues along the way, she is
located at our Warrnambool stable to assist with her
day to day training and it seems to be working wonders.
Two from Two for Telopea
Talented Telopea made it two from two in Australia
when she thrashed her rivals in the Fillies & Mares
1400m Handicap at Cranbourne on Cup Day.
After an impressive debut win for the stable at Bendigo,
the four year old mare was jumping up significantly in
class, handling the challenge with ease.
Jockey Craig Williams said, “She’s a lovely mare and she
feels as though she’ll be even better in the autumn.”
Telopea will now be set for a race at Flemington on
Oaks Day.
Gr2 Moonee Valley Cup
Prince of Penzance returned to the winners circle with
an amazing last to first win in the $250,000 Group 2
Moonee Valley Cup on Cox Plate Day.
Although this clears him of the Melbourne Cup Ballot
he still needs to earn a hefty weight penalty to guarantee
his start.
If not, he will head to the Queen Elizabeth on Emirates
Stakes Day, a race we won two years ago with Puissance
De Lune.
“We’ll see what happens now, I guess. There are a
couple of races left, so we’ll need to head down that
path if we don’t get in,” said Weir.

winner with Jarrah Twist at
Warrnambool.

Brad’s Lucky Run
Local owner Brad Thomas is having an amazing run of
luck at present with two horses.
His pride and joy Trust In A Gust won a Benchmark 90
in August and since then he’s had five winners and a
second from six starts including Trust In A Gust
winning two Group 1’s worth $400,000 each.
Brad is also a part owner of Star Stealer who won his
Maiden at Swan Hill in early October and followed up
with a win at Morphettville on Caulfield Cup Day.
“I’ve always had great faith in the horse, right before he
started racing,” said jockey Michelle Payne who has
ridden him all this preparation.
The plan was originally to settle more forward in the
race, but after a slow get away Michelle had to opt for
Plan B and ride him quietly.
She squeezed through the narrowest of margins
rounding the home turn, to go on and win by a length.
Prince of Penzance is another horse who was purchased
by Bloodstock Agent John Foote and was syndicated to
Sandy McGregor, Andrew Broadfoot, John Richards
(Galadi Holdings), Wilawl Go Racing, Dalton Racing,
Men In Hats Synd and Winning Five Syndicate.
