Founded in 1991, the ensemble soon established a reputation for inspired programming, thrilling performances and the unique rapport it builds with its audience. The ensemble’s engagements grew quickly and in the first few years, London Concertante performed in the UK, Europe, and, in an expanded form, quickly found itself in demand as a topquality opera orchestra, performing for Holland Park Opera, Palace Opera, Music Theatre Kernow and Pegasus Opera. As well as giving performances at festivals, music clubs and theatres, London Concertante also has a thriving education programme; inspiring young people to enjoy classical music, both as listeners and performers. He gave his first piano recital at the age of nine and when 18, he made his London début playing Rachmaninov’s 3rd Piano Concerto with Sir Adrian Boult conducting. His extensive repertoire includes more than 80 concertos, and he is acclaimed in particular as a leading interpreter of Beethoven, whose complete sonata cycle he has performed on several occasions in the UK, USA and Japan. He regularly gives concerts throughout the Americas, UK and Europe, Russia, the Far East and Australia. He has been awarded many Honorary Doctorates and Fellowships from British Universities, Colleges and Academies. and was awarded an OBE in 1977 and a CBE in 2005 for his services to music. Donohoe has performed with all the major London orchestras, as well as multiple European and American orchestras. He made his eighteenth appearance at the BBC Proms in 2012 and has appeared at many prestigious festivals. Recent and forthcoming engagements include appearances with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and CBSO (under Sir Simon Rattle), a UK tour with the Russian State Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as concerts worldwide. The Choir’s 2015/16 season includes Handel’s Messiah with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, appearances across the UK, and overseas tours. He studied guitar from the age of seven and percussion from the age of thirteen. In 2004 he became the youngest instrumentalist to receive a Fellowship Award from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. One of the UK’s most recorded guitarists, his recordings for Virgin/EMI, Chandos, Nimbus, Hyperion, Sony and Classic FM have received wide acclaim. Craig’s Classic FM albums The Guitarist and Summertime both shot straight to No.1 in the UK classical chart in 2010 and 2011 respectively, followed by the release of Christmas Time in 2013. His latest Classic FM albums Summer Guitar from 2014 and Craig Ogden and Friends from 2015 went straight to No. 1 in the classical chart. In 2002 they made their Edinburgh Fringe Festival debut with their show, ‘Bongo Fury’, which they played over 25 times to sell-out crowds and critical acclaim. This led to them returning to the Fringe for two more years, and also laid a platform for their future success in a number of competitions.
