Week 2 2010 Newsletter.pub - Meadowbrook Country Day Camp
The Meadow View
Dear Parents,
A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTORS
We beat the heat at Meadowbrook! Camp really “sizzled” this week with great
Special Events that showed our Jersey Pride, amazing bus decorations and
temperatures that transformed the Meadowbrook pools into the “coolest” place on
earth. Along with record setting temperatures, we set records for fun, excitement
and spirit at Meadowbrook!

Week 2 began with colorful buses pulling into camp decorated “Everything Jersey” style. There were beautiful
gardens symbolizing the Garden State, incredible Jersey Shore beach scenes and great representation of our
assorted New Jersey sports teams. We enjoyed magic tricks performed by Jersey Jeff Blum and a spirited visit
from Sparkee, the Somerset Patriots’ mascot. We ended our week with a “trip” to the Jersey Boardwalk - - OK,
so we only walked to the “beach” at sand volleyball but while we were there, we had tons of Jersey Shore fun! Be
sure to ask your campers about popcorn, sno cones, sand art necklaces, wet & wild Summer relays and our newest
invention at Athletics – Jersey Ball!
The Meadowbrook Fun is just beginning to unfold. Next week will bring a whole new set of spectacular surprises
to Camp! We look forward to sharing them with your children.
See you at Camp!

2010 Extension Rates
The Summer of 2010 is off to a great start! Our staff is outstanding, our program exciting and everyone at Camp
is having a great time! We have already begun receiving requests from parents who wish to add additional weeks
for their Campers this Summer. We are delighted that the children are enjoying themselves and want to spend
more time at Camp and we hope that we can accommodate everyone. As you know, we are very cognizant of our
group sizes and we will not overload them. If you are interested in extending your child’s stay, we suggest that
you call the office as soon as possible to check on space availability with the group for the specific weeks you
would like to extend. Additionally, if your child rides a bus to and from camp, we must also make sure that we
have room for him/her on the vehicle.

Group 1—The Sour Patch Kids
The Sour Patch Kids of Group 1 had an amazing time
with ‘Everything Jersey’ this week!
Cooper, Jami, Olivia, & Elle showed off their creativity
in Jr. Ceramics while making beautiful seashells. Sofia &
Christopher loved squirting the water with their Camper
friends on the Bumper Boats. Chloe thoroughly
enjoyed her group’s Nature walk, skipping the whole
way! While Ian is already a fantastic Swimmer, he gained
a ton of confidence in the pool this week. Carly
was a pro at Sit Skates and smiled constantly
throughout the week.
All the campers of Group 1 stayed cool this week
by running through the sprinklers and having extra
swims in the pool. They also had a blast at the
Jersey Jeff Blum Magic Show, and took pleasure in
food, games, and Jersey fun at the Boardwalk this week.
Counselors, Robyn, Lexi, & Zoe can’t wait for next
week’s Meadosaurus Rocks festivities with the Tiny
Toons of Group 1!

The Blue Hunters of 7B are having a blast at
Meadowbrook! Ryan has been spotted at
Hockey scoring goals and Ethan caught a fish
the very first time out on Bullfrog Lake!
Tyrus loves shooting baskets and is working
on his dunk! Matthew really enjoyed making
a cool sports zipper pull at Jewelry. Ben
thinks the pool is the best way to cool off.
They all loved the extra swims and the Ducky
Slide. Jack thought the Bumper Boats were
the greatest. All of 7B enjoyed Jersey Jeff
Blum’s cool magic show, especially when he
pulled a quarter out of Owen’s ear! The Blue
Hunters had an awesome visit to the
“Boardwalk” at Meadowbrook where they got
to play water games, do sand art and eat sno
cones & popcorn. We can’t wait for next
week’s Meadosaurus Rocks!

“Explorer Boys…We Are So Cool…Explorer
Boys…We Totally Rule…”
The Explorer Boys certainly knew how to
beat the heat during Everything Jersey Week. We thoroughly enjoyed splashing around
with our new and old friends during our “Extra” Free Swims all week. And get this…
Groups 15 and 17 even got an “Extra EXTRA” free swim for earning the Clean Bunk
Award during Week 1 – way to go boys!! This week we also took plenty of water breaks
and had fun getting “spritzed” by our Counselors to keep cool. The Hunka-Hunkas of
Group 15 loved hanging at the Lake several times playing in the Bumper Boats, Kayaks,
Canoes and Hand Paddle Boats. The Green Ghost Costumes (yes, they came up with
that name all by themselves!) of Group 16 laughed like crazy at Jersey Jeff Blum’s
Magic Show. (How did he make that whiteboard face talk?? Ask your Camper about it.)
The Lightning Strikers of Group 17 made flip flops in Chocolate using chocolate-covered
cookies and licorice. It was so yummy!! The First Grade Boys can’t wait to show off for
Mom and Dad on Visiting Day next Tuesday. Hope to see you all then!

Freshmen Boys spotlight: Group 27
Group 27, better known around Camp as The Champions, had an amazing second week at
Camp. They were razzled and dazzled at the Magic Show on Tuesday. Parents, please do
not send Campers to Camp with quarters in their ears, under their arm pits, or up their
nose, as the magician found several dollars in quarters in these crazy places!
The Champions also had an awesome time at their regular scheduled activities. They
looked like they were ready for the US Open at
Mini - Golf, hit the bulls - eye at Archery, and played a
fun and competitive game of Hockey. The Champions are
led by Senior Counselor Robert Hogan and Junior
Counselor Ian Hersh. The campers consist of: Jack, AJ,
Alexander, Matthew, Mark, Nicholas, Griffin, Xander,
Shane, Gabriel, Jared, Oliver, and Aidan.

Spotlight ~
Group 22 had an AWESOME week showing “Jersey Pride!” Annabelle, Jenna and Julie D. practiced
their sculpting skills at Ceramics during Choice, and Ally B., Danielle, Lily and Rachel made pretty
key chains in String Art! Jordyn, Mollie, Caroline and Julie G. were amazed by Jersey Jeff Blum’s
Magic Show; and Tatiana and Ali W. made some yummy scones in Cooking for Choice. Delicious!
Hannah, Kiley and Kendal practiced their Tennis skills; and Bobbi and Alexis made some gorgeous
aquariums in Stick Art. And of course we all loved visiting the Meadowbrook Jersey Boardwalk and
cooling off in the pool! What a GREAT week!!
~ Suzanne
-Page 5-
The Junior Boys had a “Jersey” great time at Camp this week. They loved the magic show.
Does anyone know how the magician found a twenty dollar bill inside a bagel? The boys also
enjoyed meeting Sparkee, the mascot of the Somerset Patriots minor league baseball team
and walking along the Jersey Shore Boardwalk. However, our favorite moment of the week
was meeting YOU, the parents, on Visiting Day. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy
schedules to come visit with us! The Junior Boys can’t wait for week three at MCDC!
~Scott
Junior Girls
Junior Girls showed their Jersey Girl style this week. They Rocked out to Jersey tunes, met
Sparkee, the Mascot from the Somerset Patriots, wore their Devils, Nets, and Scarlet Knights
shirts and we even let a few Giants and Jets shirts sneak
in. Jersey Jeff read their minds and baffled them with his
Magic act. Our trip to the Boardwalk was a highlight of
the week. The girls got to eat Sno Cones and fresh
Popcorn, played with Sand Art and participated in Jersey
Shore Relay Races. We took special pride in our ability to
provide them with a true New Jersey Heat Wave. Your
daughters were very impressive with their great attitudes
and enthusiasm throughout this really, really
hot week. Great going girls! Don’t forget to keep them sun screened up and
have them wear sneakers every day. We’re looking forward to bringing out the
Jurassic Spirit in them next week when our theme is Meadosaurus Rocks!

Week 2 at Meadowbrook, and the
“Billionaires” of GROUP 47 are having a
fantastic Summer! They are spirited and fun Campers in
all activities, from one end of Camp to the other. In
Athletics, Josh, Danny, Connor, and Jesse all were great
hitters in Softball! Zach W., Adam, Bryan, and Sterling
all played great defense in Basketball. Ethan, Jared, and
Justin are having a great time by the Pool and are learning
lots of new strokes!
Bobby and Jeremy are very proud of their Campers. In Cooking, Wesley, Burton, and
Tyler all showed great listening skills and made delicious quesadillas, while Spencer and
Zach B. loved making fruit salad in Cold Cooking. Kevin, Luke, and Michael had a
blast making fruit kabobs at Bonfire Cooking.
The Billionaires have it all covered, and are doing it all while exhibiting great teamwork
skills. The Billionaires ROCK!
~Steve
The Flippin’ Dolphins of Group 43 had an amazing
week! After the long weekend, the girls were well
rested and ready to participate in the exciting New
Jersey activities. Jersey Jeff Blum’s awesome Magic
Show started it off, Miranda and Sydney were lucky
enough to be his enthusiastic assistants for a few of
the exciting tricks! The NJ heat wave did not stop us from having fun. Our mermaids,
Katherine, Caitlin and Renee all cooled off during their extra swim periods by playing
games and getting everyone involved! Elizabeth, Julia, and Sasha showed off their
outstanding athletic abilities during Tennis, we were so impressed with their skills! Down
at the Lake, Zoe, Alyssa, and Juliana painted amazing portraits of the
landscape, which were truly beautiful. Madison and Rose flew across the
sky during High Ropes. With their big bright smiles and daredevil
attitude, they conquered two of the hardest obstacles. Ari and Jamie
can’t wait for another fun filled week and are so excited to be able to
spend the summer with these incredible girls!

Young Adventurer Boys
The YA Boys have had a fantastic Jersey Week at Camp. Even
with the crazy hot heat, the boys played all week and had a
great time being in the Pool for extra free swims. On top of all
of the fun at the Pool, the boys had a fabulous time on their first
trip this summer to Liberty Science Center. The Imax Hubble Telescope movie
was amazing. And of course they finished having a blast at the Jersey
Boardwalk! We are looking forward to another
great week when
Meadosaurus Rocks!
~ Charlie
Young Adventurer Girls
Bruce may be “The Boss,” but “Hubble” rocked our week at the fabulous Liberty Science
Center IMAX Theater! The LSC air-conditioning wasn’t bad either! LOL! By far, The Liberty
Science Center was the YA’s favorite Jersey destination (after Meadowbrook, of course)!
At Camp we were entertained by magician Jersey Jeff and strolled the
Meadowbrook Boardwalk, sno cones and all! We are looking forward to
Dinosaur-sized fun next week. We cannot wait for Tuesday’s Girls Night Out
which is sure to go down in history like the Stone Age!
As Jersey boy Bon Jovi says, “I’ll Be There for You!”

Special Events
Everything Jersey Week
Our campers are so proud to be from New Jersey and were
especially excited to show it this week! We heard lots of
Jersey cheers that really showed the Meadowbrook spirit. All
week long we listened to all the wonderful and talented Jersey musicians. To start the
week, on Tuesday in honor of Meadowbrook’s Jersey People Day, our Campers were
wowed by Magician Jersey Jeff Blum. He performed amazing tricks and Campers were so
excited to help him with his magic. On Wednesday, in celebration of Jersey Teams Day
our Campers looked amazing in their Jersey sports team shirts. We had a very special
visitor, Sparkee, the mascot for the Somerset Patriots. Sparkee joined our morning
assembly and even helped raise the flag. Our Campers greeted him with hugs and high
fives, posed for pictures, and Sparkee even played some Sports with some of our
Campers. Our week concluded with a “visit” to the Jersey Shore. The sun was shining and the temperature was
perfect for a day at the beach! Our Campers made beautiful sand art necklaces, participated in wacky relay races,
played Jersey Ball (a new invention from Meadowbrook), and ate refreshing
sno cones and popcorn. They all left the
shore with smiles and great memories!!! It
was a wonderful week that celebrated our
love for New Jersey with Meadowbrook
style and spirit!!!! Next week...bring on
the Meadosaurus!
~Nancy & Jill
Arts & Crafts
We want to tell everyone about all the great activities going on in Arts & Crafts I. The Pre-K
through Second Grade Boys and Girls decorated their own zoo animal door hangers in week 1.
In week 2, we have been painting Flip Flop Sun Catchers for the Jersey Shore. Some
upcoming projects for later this Summer are “Paint your own Dinosaurs” next week, WingZing Gliders for Reality TV Week, 3-D Glitter Stars during Week 6, and “Under the Sea Mobiles” for Disney
Week. So prepare yourselves for a fantastic remainder of “A Meadowbrook Experience” in Arts and Crafts I!
- Kim and Tianna
This week in Arts & Crafts II we had a change of venue - instead of meeting
at the usual A&C Building, we met down at Bullfrog Lake for some Al Fresco
Landscape Painting. It was a great way to escape the heat! The Campers
allowed their inner artists to escape as they put beautiful scenery on the
canvas and easels. Everyone was very creative painting the calm serene
surroundings. Some chose to paint their representation of the lake, others
turned around and painted the trees and abundant foliage. Every one of them
came out great! Fun was had by all!
~ Lisa and Kaila

Tween travel
How hot can it get? Not hot enough for our Tweens who showed their true T.I.G.E.R.
colors by participating in all activities here at Camp. From Soccer and Softball to Swimming
and even Bonfire Cooking, we had a great week! Wednesday took us to Camel Beach where the water
was refreshing and the slides were fast. Friday was a day to give something back to our community as the
girls and guys were off to the park to help clean-up for our T.I.G.E.R. Community Day. We
finished it off with a fantastic Chinese buffet. We are all looking

TRAVELIN’ TEENS
It was a week short on days but never short on FUN!!! The heat could not faze our group as Tuesday
we visited a soothing rock quarry in Hopewell, NJ. Campers braved diving boards, both
low and high, and relaxed on tubes and floating docks. Thursday was our trip to Great
Adventure! Our two days in camp were just as exciting! We cooked, played sports,
made jewelry, and swam, swam, swam! Our campers and counselors (Jay, Billy, Roxanne,
Caitlin, and Taylor) are doing great! After next week, the Jersey Shore will never be
the same!
~Russell
Supers Travelin’ Road Show
It may have been a short week; however, it was action packed!!! Our week began on
Tuesday and we beat the heat by enjoying all the great activities that Meadowbrook has to
offer. We also practiced making our tents for our overnight and loaded up the camp
van. Wednesday we were off to Six Flags Great Adventure for more flags...more fun!
Even though it was 100 degrees in the shade, it did not stop the Supers from
conquering all the rides. Camping out in Jackson was fun for all and the kids were all
enjoying the great outdoors. Thursday we jumped right into
the ocean and rode the waves at Pt. Pleasant. What a great beach day! OptioRnaElMSIuNDER!!!
