The Tavolozza (NDG 1135), from Nelson design Group’s Tuscany collection, was chosen for this year’s
NEAHBA showcase home because of its charm and character. As found in many Tuscan homes, this home
features a unique combination of wood, stone, brick, and copper accents. Wooden corbels, wood tone
garage doors, beautiful stone, antiqued brick, and vinyl shake blend to create a charming Italian villa that
entices you to walk through the gorgeous arched front doors to see what lies before! As you enter the
foyer, you are simply surrounded by stunning architectural elements. To your right is a staircase built from
blended woods and wrought iron balusters… truly the epitome of Tuscan design. The great room is better
described as the “grande” room. The 18’ cathedral ceiling is highlighted with two massive, hand crafted,
exposed truss ceiling beams that each have two delicate chandeliers that hang beneath. The backdrop to
this is a vent less, natural gas log fireplace that has gorgeous stone that flows from floor to ceiling. The
stone arches over the firebox for increased visual interest. Atop this, sits a solid cedar mantle that is
perched atop two wooden corbels. On either side of the fireplace, you will find two windows that are both
adorned with custom window box tops that feature inlaid tongue and groove. The living room is
completely open to the kitchen and formal dining area. At this point, one might ask themselves...which is
more spectacular… the “grande” room or the kitchen?
The kitchen features all wood construction, fully custom cabinets with soft close doors and drawers. The
stain and glaze were hand selected and custom mixed for this home. As you walk into this area, your eyes
will immediately be drawn to the hammered copper vent a hood that is accented by a mixed media mosaic
backsplash that features brown and copper tones mixed with natural slate. The upscale island is gorgeous
and offers raised cabinet panels on the sides and back of the island. In addition, you will notice a
complimentary cabinet color, hammered copper sink, pull out trash can, seating for four, and copper toned,
tear drop pendant lighting that completes the look. Hanstone Quartz countertops were chosen for this area.
The reliability of the GE stainless steel appliances were chosen for the dishwasher, 36” gas cooktop, wall
oven, and microwave. Nearby, you will notice a formal dining area which features an accent wall of brick that
has 3 cedar corbels that intersect the crown molding. In addition, this area offers a coffered ceiling with
tongue and groove ceiling panels. The tongue and groove ceiling panels feature two stain colors: a brown
tone for the base coat and a blue gray tone for the top coat. An Italian Villa of this sort could not be
complete without a wine station. Conveniently positioned inside a nook between the living room and
kitchen, you will find upper cabinetry with glass doors and LED accent lights inside the cabinetry. Below this,
a custom wine rack. A granite countertop and a Walker Zanger reclaimed teakwood backsplash that is truly
one of a kind complete this area.
Your everyday retreat, the master bedroom, is privately located at the rear of the home. Inside this room,
you will find the same distressed hardwood flooring as found throughout the rest of the main level. The
ceiling features a white wash tongue and groove with stained crown molding and two custom window box
tops. The walk in closet offers wooden organizers with an integrated full length mirror and bench. The
luxurious master bathroom features a chandelier, custom mirror, and double sink vanity with copper basins
and two sets of drawer bases and pantry closets. The master shower features Yorkwood Manor Pecan
distressed plank tiles with two bands of accent mosaic glass. In addition, you will notice bench seating, a
removable hand shower, and two body sprays.
A short distance away, you will find two guest bedrooms that each share a hall bathroom. The front guest
bedroom features a vaulted tongue and groove ceiling, wooden beams, and chandelier. The middle guest
bedroom offers a spacious walk in closet. The guest bathroom offers a single vanity, cabinet pantry, and
beautiful mirror with sconce lighting on each side. The bathtub is jetted and features a custom ceramic tile
surround.
Upstairs, you will find a built-in computer work station, 3rd bathroom, and large 4th bedroom. This area
could serve well as a guest bedroom suite.
To complete this home, you will find LED lighting, covered grilling porch, huge patio with outdoor fireplace;
safe room; 16 seer heat and air unit with insulated hard pipe ducting throughout; whole house gutters; fully
sodded yard; and beautifully landscaped Italian courtyard!
