President’s Letter
Fellow Riparians,
Committee for organizing a
successful Bike Parade.
All
participants had a great time
showing off their patriotic
creativity and leading the parade.
Prizes, cookies and juice were
provided afterwards.
I truly cannot believe this is
already August. Fortunately, we
have had a great summer. The
Fourth of July fireworks was a
hit, with many rave reviews from
fellow Riparian’s.
I thought it
was the best show ever. Having a
barge really added to the variety
of special effects especially the
line of lights across the water.
Furthermore, I want to thank the
Fireworks Committee and all that
contributed to its success.
In addition, the Boat Parade
wrapped up a fun, filled weekend
of events. Approximately a dozen
boats participated.
Although the summer is about
half over, we still have a number
of activities remaining. Please be

Welcome Newcomers
By Janie Armstrong
John Hall
4123 Windiate Park Dr.
John purchased his home in
February of 2009, and moved in
April after completing repairs to
his lake home.
His goal has
always been to buy a lake front
home, and he is familiar with the
area, since he owns Discount
Marble and Granite on Airport
Road, just north of Williams Lake
Rd. More than a hobby, John has
been involved in collecting
postage stamps for some time. He
has 2 children, one 20 years old
and the other 21. Both of his
children are out on their own.
Saylor and Stacy Frase
4253 Blain Island
The Frase’s moved to Blain Island
from a home on Walled Lake in
October 2009. Since they were
married in 2008, they might still
be considered newlyweds. Saylor
is crazy about fishing and catches
bass right off his dock. Stacy
grew up on a lake, is interested in
wines, and likes to read. The
couple enjoy boating, traveling,
and they run a non-profit
organization called “Twilight,”
which raises funds for childhood
cancer.
Saylor owns Nuspire
Networks in Commerce, and
Stacy is an executive travel
consultant.

Have you paid your MLLA Dues Yet?
By Dave DelVecchio
There’s a 50% chance that you
have not paid your MLLA dues
this year! How do we know that?
Well, as of mid-July, we have only
received MLLA dues payments
from 200 households. We have
approximately 420 homes on our
two wonderful lakes, so that’s
actually slightly less than one out
of every two homes.
Check the MLLA Member Thanks
update in this newsletter. If you
don’t see your name listed, then
we have not received your dues
payment for 2010. Please take
the time right now to complete the

in this newsletter and send in
your payment.
receive the MLLA newsletter on a

now to support your organization,
for your benefit and our lakefront
community’s benefit!
And here is something to think
about - beginning next year,
households that do not pay their
membership dues will no longer

Venetian Night
By Karen Soloman
After almost being canceled due to
lack of host homes, Venetian
Night turned out to be a huge
success!! Michael and Yesenia
Weisbart saved the day by
offering to host the first stop,
thank you so much!! They have a
beautiful contemporary home and
a gorgeous piece of property on
Blain Island. The second stop was
Fred and Debbie Maitrott's home
on Maceday Lake. They had been
looking forward to hosting
Venetian Night for almost a year
and graciously gave up their
requested first stop on the tour,
thank you! Fred and Debbie have
a beautiful home that Debbie
designed herself. The last house
was Pete and Karen Soloman's on
Maceday Lake, it was their second
time hosting the event.
Although this is supposed to be a
lakeside party, all of the hosts
opened up their homes to the and
I know everyone really enjoyed
seeing the homes as well as
getting to know the hosts and
fellow lake neighbors!!
We apologize if you did not receive
notice of Venetian Night, the date
was posted in the newsletter but
due to the fact that we were
lacking host homes until the week
before we only had a week to send
out notice which was done via email. In the future if you have a
question about Venetian or are
interested in hosting please call
Karen Soloman. If you have had a
problem receiving e-mails please
be sure Al Jacobson has your
correct e-mail address. In an
effort to reduce paper and postage
costs all flyers will be sent via email.
One final note. In the future
Venetian Night will be limited to
lakefront residents ONLY. It is
just getting to be too large of an
event and we feel it is going to
continue to grow in popularity.
Also, the purpose of this event is
to meet your fellow lakefront
neighbors not their friends. If you
bring friends yourself then you
aren't as likely to meet your
lakefront neighbors. Of course, if
you are single you are more than
welcome to bring a date. If you
want to have your friends out to
the lake, the Fourth of July
Fireworks is a great time to do
that.
Thanks again to the Weisbarts
and Maitrotts!!!
New and Exciting Social Coming to MLLA
By Deb Trosin
Social Chairperson
Do you remember drive in
movies??? How much fun they
were!
Put the kids in their PJ’s, pop the
corn, fill the cooler, grab some
blankets and pillows and load up
the car and off you go.
There is one slight difference
here. Instead of getting in the car-- pile onto your boat and head
over in front of the Nettler’s home
on Maceday Lake (“Turtle House”
on Parkwood Drive).
A family boat in movie night is
being planned for Saturday,
September 18TH, 9:00 PM. We
will have a massive inflatable
screen and sound for all to
enjoy.
This is a tentatively planned
event, so watch your e-mail in-box
for details when things are firmed
up in September.
Information
will be posted on the
WWW.MLLA.US
website in
September, as well.

Annual Boat Parade 2010
WHAT A GREAT DAY FOR A PARADE
By Deb Trosin
Social Chairperson
The morning was so beautiful sunny
and HOT.
There were 11 boats with many crew
members dressed in their patriotic red,
white and blue. Even the family pets
got in on the action in there patriotic
outfits.
Hope you enjoy all the pictures taken
by Jim Oldford master picture taker,
Thanks Jim.
I really was amazed on the amount of
red, white and blue decorations’ that
could actually be placed on a boat it
was so breathe taking!!!
(of course, red, white and blue) and so
many American flags. Best dressed
crew Ron & Margie Gobler and boat
full of friends in patriotic attire.
Thanks to the judges Jim & Carroll,
friends of the Olfords and yours truly it
was a very hard decision as all the
boats were so beautiful the time and
effort you all put it was Outstanding.
Each boat did receive a large American
Flag from MLLA just for participating.
1st Place was the Chris & Dawn Wyse
& family with there double pontoon
extravaganza, 2nd place Jim & Shannon
Williams (Ms statue of Liberty) and
3rd Joe Delude with the Bud beer cans
Thanks Rick Martin and crew for
being the Grand Marshall and leading
the pack.

BIKE PARADE 2010—OH WHAT A DAY!!!!!
By Deb Trosin
Social Chairperson
On Saturday July, 3rd 2010, 14
kids, rode around Lotus Circle.
The day was perfect with blue
skies, bright sun and a cool
breeze.
I was quite impressed with all the
decorating these young uns did.
You can see from the pictures
there were no limits on what they
crafted.
After a few turns on the circle
with their mouths parched and
bellies growling they wet their
whistles with Capri Suns and
delicious sugar cookies (also
decorated in patriotic colors).
After all their hard work they all
had a turn in picking out some
awesome prizes.
Thanks to all the parent’s and
grandparents that helped that
day and to Jin Oldford for taking
pictures and to Carroll Oldford
and my friend Kathy Adams for
their help making sure all the
children had a great time.
I hope all enjoyed the annual bike
parade. A Big Thanks to the
parents who did RSVP prior. It
makes it a lot easier on the items
we need to purchase to put BIG
smiles on all the children’s faces.
DON'T BE A VICTIM:
Car robbery scam, pretends to be injured then robs drivers
By Dave DelVecchio
You may have already read about
the incident in the Oakland
Press...but...just in case you
didn't see the article...here is
what it says...
"Waterford Police are warning
residents about a robbery setup
where a person lies down in the
road and when a driver stops to
help, he is robbed by others. An
incident occurred on Eason Street
near Sawyer on July 17. "We took
a report about a person who will
lie down in the road, pretending
to be hurt," said Deputy Chief Jeff
James. "When someone stops
their vehicle to render aid, they
are robbed." The people involved
play on the emotions of the Good
Samaritan, he said. In this case,
when the vehicle stopped and the
driver exited to call 9-1-1, three to
four individuals approached the
lone driver from the side and
demanded the cell phone and any
money. The same day, police saw
two individuals near the area who
fit the supects' description. When
the police approached, the
suspects ran. Officers did arrest
one possible suspect on an
unrelated
charge.
The
investigation is still pending. "The
safest thing to do in these types of
circumstances is to avoid direct
contact and call 9-1-1 from the
safety of your vehicle, home or
business," James said.

Letters to MLLA
By Karen Soloman
The MLLA Board will consider
publishing letters that we feel are
of interest to MLLA riparians.
The following is a letter that was
received by the MLLA Board and
we thought it was noteworthy.
The weed we think they are
talking about is actually an Algae
called Charl that has been know
to grow in areas that were
previously chemically treated
with herbicides.
I have a couple of questions.... maybe MLLA may have answers....
#1.. what is this carpet weed that is covering the bottom of the lake.. I have it now...??? I'd like to research it and
see what it is... but I don't have a name
#2.... do we as lake front owners have any paperwork that can be mailed to these "STUPID" People who keep
putting TONS of fertilizer on their yards... I have one right next door.. and now this guy who was over here the
other day complaining to me about the weeds in the lake.... now he has a company over there fertilizing his
yard... I don't know what this chemical is but I can smell it from houses away... causes me headaches.. and
shortness of breath.... it stinks too...
If we don't have something.. I would like to Propose to start something... I'd like to mail them a really nice
certificate.. a beautiful.. envelope.. with a formal announcement on the front... that states: Congratulations to you
________Mr .Homeowner________
you are here by awarded the
"Prestigious Donor Award"...
You have been seen contributing to the Weed Problem in our lakes by adding fertilizer to our lake waters...
What You ask? How?
We are sure you know that by applying fertilizer to your yard.. makes your lawn grass beautiful, thick and green...
for all your neighbor's to admire. But.. when it rains.. or you water your beautiful grass.. all the chemicals wash into
the water that surrounds you... and the water grasses.. all so known as "Water Weeds" love your fertilizer...which
in turn grow beautiful, thick and green. So the water weeds thank you...
Thank You so much for your donation to a really big existing problem.
We sure hope you can understand the problem.. and like 50% of Water & Lake Owners.. we hope you can help us
stop the fertilizing of weeds in our lake waters, by not fertilizing your lawn.

Clean, clear, quality lake water is key to: an enriched quality
of life, higher property values, expanded recreational activity,
and an inviting healthy habitat for a variety of wild life.
Maceday/Lotus Lake Association is committed to the task of

Certainly Maceday/Lotus Lake water quality can only be
maintained through continued vigilance and co-operation of
all lake users and riparians to reduce or eliminate any type of
contaminate either man-made or natural material from entering or existing in our lake water.
STOLEN: Friday night, July 23rd, a paddleboat and speedboat were stolen. The paddleboat is now at Brent Gatecliff's
home on Blain Island. It's a Sun Dolphin with Billy's Tippin
In stickers on it. The speedboat was found in Sunset Bay
around 4 am. A green canoe is also missing from Amy
Vernon's home. If the paddleboat is yours, call Brent at 2193051. If the canoe ended up in front of your home, please call
Amy at 623-7656. We suggest that you make sure you do not
leave valuables (and keys) in your boat overnight.
