National Park Directorates in Hungary
•NPDs are centralized government bodies with regional working
areas, directly supervised by the Ministry of Rural Developement
• ten NPDs with equal rights, independent financial management
• covering the whole country, managing all national protectes and
N2000 sites
The National Park Directorates
• Individual NPDs function alike, local differencies can occur
depending on special biogeographic and social conditions
• They all have propety rights
of certain state-owned lands,
but nature management has
to be carried out on private
lands as well
The NPDs financial peculiarities
• All Directorates receive – in unequal ratio – state subsidy,
which is typically not enough for the basic tasks
• Apart from that, own infrastructure, land and human
resources help to raise income, amongst which, project sources
play an important role.
