President’s Report May 2013
Dear Members,
Welcome to our May newsletter.
Hi all,
Tracy and I have just completed our annual two week R & R at Crescent Head and are sooo… relaxed we are
reluctant to go back to work. But we must get back to reality and push on a few more years before we become
permanent grey nomads. We hope to see you all soon, maybe at the Denman Food & Wine Affair!!
st
The time has come, membership renewal fees will be accepted as from 1 May either by EFT or at our May and

Entertainment Books
2013 / 2014 Entertainment Books have arrived and will be available for sale at our May meeting. These books are
great value with at least $15,000 worth of discounts to numerous goods and services locally, Australia wide and
internationally. It is possible to save what the book cost with as little as two uses.
Steamfest
Tracy and I couldn’t attend this year’s Steamfest due to our being on leave but I have heard it was a huge success
on a beautiful day. At least four of our members received trophies on the day, congratulations to Ross Williams
(Mustang), Robbie Roberts (Buick), Michael Wilks (Clubman panel van) and Lee & Rob Hopper (Hupmobile). Well
done guys (and gals).

HISTORIC REGISTRATION: Driving Your Classic
Members are reminded that other than official runs, vehicles on historical registration may be:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
driven on official club runs (see calendar above and SMS messages);
driven on Wednesday and Sunday mornings, on a tune-up run that leaves the Bakers Cottage at 9:00 am
(10:00 am in May, June, July, August & September);
driven within a 20km radius of where it is usually garaged for the purposes of battery charging, tune up and
other general maintenance purposes;
driven to locations beyond 20 kms for the purposes of having repairs undertaken, or for securing quotes for
repairs, after notifying the club registrars; Mick O’Hara (49381880), Damon Power, Ian Scott (49319046) or
Rob Hopper (49341712), and
driven on other occasions after seeking the authorisation of a club registrar.
WEDNESDAY AND SUNDAY TUNE UP RUNS
These runs are under-rated in our club. They are a privilege of membership, and provide enormous flexibility for
members. I urge you to ring around, or just turn up at the Baker’s Cottage at the allocated time of 9:00 am (10:00
am in the winter months of May, June July and August), and drive your classic. The bottom line is, don’t forget the
tune up runs – they can be just as enjoyable as the highly organised ones!
IMPROMPTU RUNS
I have established a contact list of members interested in Impromptu Sunday Runs i.e. thought up on Fridays or
Saturdays and communicated via SMS. If you wish to be included on this list talk with me at the next meeting of
SMS your details to me on 0412726420.
It is important that on all impromptu runs members follow some basic courtesies so that we all practice and
demonstrate road safety:
1. follow ALL road rules,
2. drive at up to 80 kph (50mph),
3. not lose sight of the vehicle behind,
4. pass slower vehicles if necessary, and
5. if you are slow or have problems, stay in contact with the ‘back marker’.

June 8 – 10 2013. Long Weekend Run
This is an institution for our club and this year we are visiting Carcoar (south-western slopes). It will be the usual
excitement of staying at a country pub and enjoying all the thrills of driving/riding our classics in country New South
Wales. Doug has contacted a car club in Bathurst and we are planning to join them on a run on the Sunday.
On Saturday members will participate in The Running of the Fleeces at Merriwa, the Gulgong Henry Lawson
Festival, or driving directly to Carcoar. It will be a full-on weekend, with plenty of time to socialise and have a few
drinks.
Bookings are now closed. The following members are attending – Doug and Cheryl (Room 2), Ian and Kris (Room
3), Alex and Tracey (Flat) , Chris and Genine (Flat), Garry and Sue (Room 8B), Trevor and Veronica (Room 9), Brett
and Margaret (Room 10), Murray and Stephanie (Flat), Greg and Gail (Room 4), Bob (Room 11), Lindsay and Ann
(Room 6), John and Gemma (Room 7B), and Ian and Anne-Maree (Room 5B).

th
September 21 – 29 2013: Tour of Southern Queensland
Planning has commenced for this run following the enormous success of tours in 2012 – Tasmania in summer and
the Riverina in spring. It tours through the north-western slopes, into Central Queensland to Gladestone, the delights
of the southern Great Barrier Reef, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. I will be calling for further
expressions of interest at our future club meetings. At this stage Mick and Robyn, Ian and Kris, Garry and Sue,
Trevor and Veronica, Alex and Tracey, Murray and Stephanie, and Ian and Anne-Maree are planning to attend.
I will CLOSE the books after the May Meeting so that I can lock in bookings.

November 1 – 3 2013. Upper Hunter/Orchard Lodge Weekend
Club members have been venturing to Moonan Brook/Moonan Flat/Omadale Brook for over 15 years. These are
more opportunities to spend a great weekend away at Orchard Lodge on Omadale Brook and the Hunter River. At
any time of the year this is a wonderful part of the world, but it is especially great in spring. Club members with
trail/off road/enduro motorcycles are encouraged to attend. Likewise, club members with 4WD or military vehicles
are encouraged to attend. Furthermore, club members who don’t mind driving gravel roads are most welcome to
attend. We will be driving/riding into Barrington Tops and over the Mount Royal Range to Nundle. We will visit Timor
Caves, and always have a great time.
The Future
Given the enormous success of our Tour of Tasmania, of a number of tours are planned in the future if members are
interested. They are:
1. In 2014, South Australia, Western Australia and the Nullarbor.
2. In 2015 Central Australia and Darwin.
3. In 2016 New Zealand
4. In 2018, Peking to Paris
Let’s keep talking about these tours and spending money to make our vehicles reliable and comfortable.

Saturday April 6 2013: “Flicks in the Sticks” at The McLennan's, Bolwarra Heights
This was a barbeque evening and a fantastic opportunity to have a lovely social evening with club members, enjoy a
barbeque and fine food, a few drinks, and share motoring related videos. Club members met at Bakers Cottage and
enjoyed a short run via Raymond Terrace, New Line Road, Seaham and Woodville before arriving at Trevor and
Veronica’s. Their great hospitality was appreciated by all, and it was an absolutely fabulous evening. Thank you
Trevor and Veronica!
Club members attending were Trevor and Veronica, Gary and Sue, Michael and Robyn, Brett and Margaret, Noel

Sunday April 14 2013: Steamfest Show ‘n Shine.
This is one of the highlights of the club year. This year was huge – heaps of cars and heaps of lookers. The
organisation was different and the area devoted to our club too small and crowded. We can hope that in 2014 we are
allocated more space, or even our old site back. The club provided breakfast and lunch through our barbeque trailer.
Many thanks are extended to all of the members who stepped up and cooked and cleaned. They helped make a big
day a great day.
Club members attending were Barry (Model A), Di and Peter (1956 Ford Victoria), Ian (BMW R75 Outfit), Mark (AM
General Truck), Lee (1975 Corvette Stingray), Rob (1923 Hupmobile R Series), Peter and Lorraine (1978 Mini LS),
Judy (1978 Mini S), Steve and Marj (MG Magnette), Trevor and Veronica (EH Sedan and EH Ute), Steve (FJ Holden

Utility), Doug (1964 Ford Mustang), Cheryl (1931 Ford Model A), Shane (1965 Mustang Fastback), David (1976
Triumph Stag), Albert (1959 Rover), Trevor (2007 Mercedes), Wayne (1967 Mustang), Anne-Maree (1967 MGB),

Sunday April 21 2013: Morning Tea Run to Paterson.
This was a short run led by Ian and Bob. Members met at Bakers Cottage and departed for Paterson. Club members
were unable to keep up with the flying 2 cylinder Citroen of Bob’s and Ian vows to remove a plug lead next run.
Morning tea was enjoyed at the CBC café at Paterson. Members attending were Bob (Citroen 2CV), Ian and Kris
(Triumph Herald), Earl and Debbie (“S” Valiant), Albert (Rover), and Peter and Lorraine (Isuzu Ute).

Thursday April 25 2013: Anzac Day March
MCMA supports its community, and recognises and respects Australia’s heritage and traditions. Eight club members

The club members were Graham (MGA), Wayne (Jeep), Andrew (Chevrolet), Doug (Mustang), Cheryl (Model A),
Tad (Ford Fairmont), Bob (Citroen), and Ian (MGB).

Sunday April 28 2013: Morning Tea Run to Maitland
This was a well-attended run that saw members met at Bakers Cottage and travel to Maitland via Buchanan, Kurri
Kurri, Lovedale, Greta, Branxton, Elderslie, Stanhope, Rosebrook, Bolwarra and Lorn. Morning tea was enjoyed (by
most members) at Two Fat Cheeks in High Street. The service was very slow and disorganised but they were fairly
busy. We’ll go somewhere else next time!!!
Members attending were Murray (1969 Morris Cooper S), Stephanie (1974 Ford XB Coupe), Earl (1962 Valiant), Ian
