Digital Pagers
All Swissphone alert Pagers are characterized by their ruggedness, reliability and compliance with the strictest
international regulations. Swissphone offers the best solution for the most diverse demands.
PLL
The reception frequency can be programmed within ± 0.5 MHz (± 1.0 MHz) using PLL technology
(Phase-Locked Loop).
Wide PLL: The reception frequency can be programmed within a Bandwidth of up to 10 MHz via
the diverse profiles.
The IDEA™ Encryption Technology employed by Swissphone allows secure transmission of
confidential POCSAG messages.
eco
mode
During ECO mode, reception sensitivity is enhanced and this useful feature further increases the
rechability of the user.
Hybrid combines the reliability of a paging alert with the benefits of commercial mobile telecommunications networks. The alert message is sent to the pager via paging and cellular. Only the fastest
of the alert messages is displayed on the pager screen and the other is suppressed.
Text-to-Speech: The only POCSAG pager that speaks.
Multifrequency: The pager can receive alerts from different networks.
All Swissphone pagers are narrowband-ready; They operate on 25kHz and 12kHz systems
independent of any hardware or software changes.
GLOB is a replace text pattern option that allows you to either suppress text or replace it with
constant text.
Bluetooth technology makes it possible to connect the s.QUAD with a compatible smartphone
and ultimately with various s.ONE software solutions from Swissphone. This includes, among other
things, the display of the availability of the emergency services and the resources as well as the
strength of the team.

The DE920Ex is approved for use in areas with easily ignitable gas-air mixtures and is thus tailor-made
for the needs of the chemical and oil industries. This robust, compact pager is ideal for those working in
such dangerous environments and need to be on call at all times. Even in sensitive zones, the pager can
be used safely thanks to its passive RF reception characteristic and protection devices.

IDEA™ Encryption
Secure Paging
IDEA™ Facts:
•• Encoded messages from input
to pager (end-to-end)
•• Secure against subsequent
replaying of alerting messages
(time authentication)
•• Integration into the existing
environment
•• Clever code management
Swissphone IDEA™ encodes alerting messages so that eavesdroppers or hackers cannot read it but that authorized
parties can. Thus, Swissphone digital alerting is not just fast - but secure as well.
Secure paging
Swissphone IDEA™ encryption is an option to all of our digital paging systems, and provides unparalleled confidentiality. All messages are encoded starting from their input all the way to the receiving pagers. Swissphone IDEA™ allows
shorter transmission times and requires less memory as the AES standard, but provides the same security.
Communicated information
Mission orders issued by security or emergency services often contain confidential information. Whenever this type of
sensitive information is communicated, it must be protected from external interference to the highest possible degree.
This particularly applies to paging, a technology that is now indispensable in alarm systems.
Clever code management
Security cannot be achieved from a good lock alone – it is also important that only a few people have the keys and
that these are also kept suitably secure. The keys should be periodically changed to maintain security. Swissphone
has developed a clever code management system for this purpose, making it possible to change codes securely via
the wireless interface. It is not necessary to bring the pager back in to change the codes, and even if the pager gets
lost, the codes still cannot be read.
Integration into existing environment
IDEA™ secure paging from Swissphone is easy to integrate into an existing environment. Swissphone will assist any
project with the integration of IDEA™ secure paging.

Message Text Enhancement
Talking with you / our customers, we have heard the following concern:
My Message text contains things that distract me, couldn’t you possibly suppress them?
Examples of such unwanted and to the end user distracting text items might be:
•• Incident Numbers
•• Timestamps
•• Error Codes
•• GPS Positions
The data above is there for a reason: Incident Number is useful for later reference, Timestamp may
be sent out to receiver without timestamp functionality and GPS Position data can be used to guide
vehicles to the incident. But many of the "average" users might be distracted by the elaborate data. To
alleviate this issue we built the "Replace Text Pattern" option.
The Replace Text Pattern option allows you to search for text inside the message text that conforms to
certain formatting rules: e.g. Timestamp: ##:## (meaning two digits followed by a : followed by two
digits). It is now possible to either suppress text that looks like this completely, or replace it with some
constant text (e.g. "TS" for timestamps). To only match timestamps at the beginning of the message the
search pattern would be <##:##. Messages get stored in the pager as they were sent, and messages
that where edited using this option are prepended with an "inverted asterisk". The original messages
may be read out of the pager using service software.
Efficient Fleet Management for Terminals
Swissphone Terminal Update Tool (shorthand TUT) offers a tool for efficient and convenient configuration
of terminal fleets, both small and large. Imagine you have 20 RES.Q pagers on stock. Before delivering
them to the end user you would like to:
•• Update the Firmware
•• Set Network-Parameters (such as reception Frequency and baud rate) in all terminals
•• Individualize the terminals with RIC’s, Profiles etc.
Typically you use Terminal Flasher, PSWplus and the document describing how to individualize each
device. Using Terminal Update Tool, the configuration process can be streamlined:
First, create a base configuration and select it in the user interface. Second, select the desired firmware
and list how to individualize each device. Then, you simply press "start" and all you have to do is plug
the terminals into the programmer and wait for the green arrow showing when TUT is ready for the next
terminal.
TUT is flexible, allowing you also to program only a base configuration or a new firmware. Additionally,
you can set up your TUT with multiple programming cradles. One to eight cradles can easily be handled
with a basic Laptop computer. This allows you to scale from small fleets managing tens of terminals to
fleets including hundreds or even thousands of terminals.
You can use normal Programming Set "PG Set Expert" as a programming cradle. The included USB to
RS232 adapter cable allows you to connect up to 4 cradles to most Laptops easily. When deciding how
many cradles you want, please keep in mind the following: if you use 8 cradles and do firmware update
plus configuration, on average about every 15 seconds a terminal will be finished!

bar and those that are not available are displayed with a red bar.
The various functions of the new Swissphone
platform enable quick and targeted alerting. For
example, operations directors can view the availability of relief forces or that effective strength of
teams and groups on a smartphone or display
screen and then alert as necessary. The s.ONE
modules can be combined with one another in
any way, meaning it is possible to start with a
simple solution and use other modules to
expand it into a complete alerting solution.
The s.ONE monitor displays on the screen
how many of the summoned relief forces have
acknowledged the alert with “I’m coming” or
“I’m not coming” or are travelling to the scene of
the incident. The engaged relief forces are then
displayed with a green bar and those that are
not available are displayed with a red bar. If the
operations director plans a certain number of
relief forces for a large fire, he will be able to
view on the s.ONE platform if he has achieved
his target and how many fire brigade relief
forces, paramedics or members of traffic control
are ready for deployment. This way, he can
quickly and easily re-alert the right personnel
depending on need. The scene of the incident
is displayed on a geographic map.
s.ONE resources display how many relief
forces are available at that current time. The
operations director can call up the relevant list
on the screen or smartphone app. The available relief forces are then displayed with a green

Compact solutions for
small networks
Primary-Secondary solutions for
mid-sized radio networks
In the small network solution every page is transmitted
over one base station. This base station can provide an
adequate signal in the immediate vicinity of the transmitter
site to provide a reliable paging service. A page can be
triggered locally or remotely over a dispatch center and
transmitted to the base station.
The mid-sized network solution consists of a primary and
several secondary base stations combined into a group
network. Messages are transmitted over the central base
station to the paging network.
Secondary base stations receive the transmission over
the air and bit-synchronize re-transmissions to extend
coverage.
DiCal Network Architecture
Multi-Primary-Secondary solutions for
large radio networks
Simulcast solutions for
paging networks
The most efficient solution for large networks consists of
several base stations combined into a primary-secondary
group network. The messages are transmitted over a
central base station to the paging network. Base stations
in the transmission reception range save the messages
and then re-transmit them bit-synchronously to each other.
Thanks to multiple primary stations the page can be issued
simulcast to them. The page transmission can be reduced
substantially and the speed will increase.
The fastest but most expensive solution consists exclusively of primary base stations that are combined into one
simulcast network. Messages are transmitted simulcast
over all central stations to the paging network. Each base
station transmits simulcast in the first transmission. This
paging network configuration means that only one transmission is required for the entire coverage area. When
repetition is eliminated, transmission time is minimized.
One solution, different configuration
All network topologies can be configured by using the same base station. This affords users the greatest possible flexibility in
setting up, migrating, and operating their paging network infrastructure. The controlling, configuration, and monitoring
components PNC (Paging Network Controller) are responsible for the paging network. Base stations can be addressed and
configured via a TCP / IP connection or a proprietary radio protocol over the air.
Failsafe because of fallback scenarios
The radio network is designed for seamless transition from one operating mode to another. If, for instance, one or several
connections in a synchronous solution are disrupted or interrupted, the radio network switches to multi-primary-secondary
operating mode. The synchronous base stations that cannot be reached then run in the secondary operating mode until they
can be used again as synchronous base stations. If the entire TCP / IP communication breaks down, the PNC can access
an individual primary base station directly. The radio network then runs in primary-secondary operating mode. All the other
synchronous base stations that no longer have a connection then run in secondary mode, thus maintaining radio network
operation. Full functionality is preserved-only message throughput is reduced.

DiCal-PNC III Server
The Paging Network Controller (PNC) consists of the following software modules:
•• Queue Manager (QM)
•• Dispatcher (D)
•• Paging Network Management System (PNMS)
•• Operation & Maintenance Center (OMC)
•• SQL Server Express Edition (database)
The Queue Manager receives the paging messages from the input systems through
TNPP or TMIP interface and batches them for the transmission. These transmission
batchesare queued and sent to the Dispatcher.
The Dispatcher receives the transmission batches from the Queue Manager and
sends them to the master base stations. The Dispatcher controls the distribution of
the messaging data and monitoring data to the base stations.
The Paging Network Management System features the tools for configuring and
monitoring of the base stations.
The Operation and Maintenance Center (OMC) polls all PNC software modules and
request their status along with error codes. The status values are displayed and
selected errors are forwarded as a page or an e-mail.
