The Breakbulk Port of Europe
Efficient hinterland connections Wide range of logistics and storage solutions Around 14,000 seagoing ships and 55,000 barges call at Antwerp every year. The Port of Antwerp offers immediate access to extensive road, rail and inland shipping networks and is as such a major link in the chain of international trade. All terminals at the port are multimodal with rail links extending right up to the terminal and direct transhipment possibilities into barge and train. The port offers direct access to the 1,500 km (930 miles) of inland waterways in Belgium and further afield in the Ruhr region of Germany, Eastern France, Switzerland and the entire panEuropean network. Thousands of trucks are also loaded and unloaded on a daily basis. Antwerp’s central location within Northwest Europe makes it the port of choice for a range of customers offering the fastest onward connections to the continent’s major industrial and commercial centres. Unique amongst its neighbouring seaports, the Port of Antwerp can receive millions of tonnes of cargo up to 80 km (50 miles) inland by the most environmentally-friendly means of transport, thus massively reducing truckmovements and their resultant carbon footprint.
