This electronic sponsor package is designed to assist you in navigating available Idahospecific resources that may be useful to you throughout your relocation process. As the Airman & Family Readiness Center Relocation Consultant, I have compiled the most commonly used and up to date links and resources available in an electronic format in hopes to minimize the clutter of paperwork and packages that is so prevalent when relocating. Having relocated to Idaho recently myself, I understand the concerns you have pertaining to creating a smooth and hassle free relocation experience. Although it is quite normal to experience stress during this time I would like to encourage you to utilize the services that are available to you through the Airman & Family Readiness Center and the base. Every Installation has a Relocation Consultant available at the A&FRC to assist you with your questions. Here are some key points to get your wheels rolling, so to speak: Request a Sponsor: Your sponsor will be key in helping you to get acquainted with the base, assisting you with in-processing, and also with your housing needs. If you do not have a sponsor already call your gaining unit or the A&FRC to request one. In-Processing: Base in-processing schedules newcomers for mandatory briefings ranging from Right Start to First Term Airman Center orientations. All briefings must be scheduled within 5 days of arriving at MHAFB. Military members must be in uniform for in-processing. Please bring with you the following items to keep things running smoothly: Pen 12 copies of current orders with any amendments Finance records, military transportation request if returning from OCONUS Receipts for hotels, ground transportation, etc. for those who were not paid mileage Government Traffic Records Medical/Dental records if hand carried Lodging: You may coordinate a room in TLF through the Sagebrush Inn by calling (208) 828-5200 or DSN 728-5200 up to 30 days in advance. Reservations are taken 24 hours a day on a spaceavailable basis. Distinguished visitors holding the rank of 0-6 or above should call the protocol office at (208) 828-4536 to reserve lodging. These are just a few pieces to the PCS puzzle to get you started. You may of course choose to live on base, or you may live in the town of Mountain Home. On average, Mountain Home is about a 15-20 minute drive from the base. Many people and families choose to live in Boise as well which is a 35-50 minute drive from the base. If you choose this option, you may want to consider using the vanpool for your commute, as part of the cost for this service is reimbursed to you by the Wing. You can go online the VanPool website for information. There are plenty of opportunities for recreating in Mountain Home, Boise, and across the state. Boise is alive and vibrant with cultural activities, in the summer time there are a variety of festivals and celebrations nearly every weekend.
