REALTORS® Report February 2014 Where Are My Listings and How Did They Get There? ATTENTION BROKERS! Working in the best interests of your seller clients means you, as a listing broker, want to advertise that property EVERYWHERE to get the maximum exposure possible to sell it quickly and for a fair price. INSIDE THIS ISSUE Copyright/Data Distribution New Members Upcoming Events Broker Meeting Registration Authorized MLS Data Use SentriSmart App Wine & Cheese Fundraiser WRA Scholarship Wine Tasting Registration Frac Sand Registration R & G Day 1 1 1 2 3 3 4 4 5 6 7 Upcoming Events Feb 5-Frac Sand Mining Seminar Feb 14-Valentine’s Day Feb 20-Broker Meeting Feb 26-Realtor® & Gov Day March 5 & 6 WRA ABR Course Mar 7-MLS Board Meeting Mar 13-RANWW BOD Meeting Mar 15-Foundation Fundraiser April 1 Prof Standards Training When you prepare the advertising copy for your local newspaper, tourism publication or radio station, you KNOW where your data is—you are in control. When you complete an IDX agreement with the MLS, you know where your data goes — to your company website and to the sites of other brokers in this MLS who agree to participate in IDX. Then there’s this scenario: The phone rings. John Smith is on the line and is interested in seeing an active property you have for sale that he found on the internet. You search your listing inventory, only to find you sold the property a couple of years ago. Next, you check the MLS database to see if, by chance, another broker has it listed. Nope. You apologize to Mr Smith. He’s clearly not happy that YOUR listing data isn’t accurate! After all, you MUST have put the data out there! He slams the phone in your ear. You sigh, hang up the phone and start to wonder. How DID that listing get on that website? If you didn’t send it, who did? And what does “scraping the data” mean anyway? Isn’t my data copyrighted to prevent scraping? If you want to get control of your data and know where and how it gets from Point A to Point B, don’t miss the “COPYRIGHT & DATA DISTRIBUTION” BROKER MEETING, Feb 20, 9:00-11:00 a.m., Horizons Lounge & Banquet Center. Bring your office managers, agents and personal assistants who use and/or manage listing data. Happy Valentine’s Day! DON’T DELAY! REGISTER TODAY! You owe it to yourself to know how to control your listing data. Registration MUST be made by Feb 13 (see Page 2). See you February 20th! Welcome New Members!
