Woolly Winter Warmers! Knitting Patterns: You can knit any of the following patterns as big or as small as you like! Simply pick which size needles you would like to use and work with the coordinating yarn, and be as creative with colours as you wish! For example, if you select 4mm needles use 4mm yarn or 9mm needles with 9mm yarn. Abbreviations K – Knit P – Purl sts – stitches st st – stocking stitch inc – increase stitch tog – together rem - remaining sk2po - slip 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together, pass slipped stitch over garter - knit every row sl – slip one yo - yarn over Acorn Use two colours, one for cup and one for acorn. Using colour for cup, cast on 6 sts Row 1 – inc into every st (12 sts) Row 2 – inc into every st (24 sts) Row 3 – *K1, P1* Repeat from * to * to end Row 4 – P1, K1* Repeat from * to * to end Row 5 – as row 3 Row 6 – as row 4 Row 7 – as row 3 Row 8 – as row 4 Row 9 – *P1, P2tog* Repeat from * to * to end (16 sts) Continue in colour for acorn Rows 10-16 – beg with P row work in st st Row 17 – *K2tog, K2* Repeat from * to * to end (12 sts) Row 18 – P Row 19 - *K2tog, K1* Repeat from * to * to end (8 sts) Row 20 – P2tog to end, thread yarn through remaining 4 sts Stem – cast on 10 sts, cast off 10 sts To make up, sew stem to base of cup and join seams together, fill with wadding along the way. Butterfly Use three knitting needles and two colours, one for lower wings, one for upper wings. Lower wings (x2) Cast on 12 sts Row 1 – K2, [P2, K1] s times, K1 Row 2 – K1, [P1, K2] 3 times, P1, K1 Row 3 – K2 [P2tog, K1] 3 times, K1 (9 sts) Row 4 – K1, [P1, K1] 4 times Row 5 – K1, sk2po, P1, skpo, K1 (5 sts) Row 6 – K1 [P1, K1] twice Row 7 – K1, sk2po, K1 (3sts) Cut yarn and leave sts on spare needle Upper wings (x2) Cast on 12 sts Row 1 – K2, [P2, K1] s times, K1 Row 2 – K1, [P1, K2] 3 times, K1 Row 3 – as row 1 Row 4 – as row 2 Row 5 – K2, [P2tog, K1] 3 times, K1 (9sts) Row 6 – K1, [P1, K1] 4times Row 7 – K2, [P1, K1] 3 times, K1 Row 8 – as row 6 Row 9 – K1, sk2po, P1, sk2po, K1 (5 sts) Row 10 – K1, [P1, K1] twice Row 11 – K1, sk2po, K1 (3sts) Cut yarn and leave sts on spare needle To make up line up the pair of upper wings and the pair of lower wings on 2 needles. Use a third needle to cast them off. Carrott Cast on 7 sts Row 1 – P Row 2 – [K1, inc] to the last st, K1 (13 sts) Rows 3-5 – starting with P, ss st 3 rows Row 6 – [K2, inc] 4 times, K1 (17 sts) Rows 7-11 – starting with P, st st 5 rows Row 12 – [K3, inc] 4 times, K1 (21 sts) Rows 13-17 – starting P, st st 5 rows. Row 18 – [K2, K2tog] 5 times, K1 (16 sts) Rows 19-25 – starting with P, st st 7 rows Row 26 – [K1, K2tog] 5 times, K1 (11 sts) Rows 27-33 – starting with P, st st 7 rows Row 34 – [K1, K2tog] 3 times, K2 (8 sts) Rows 35-39 – starting with P, st st 5 rows Row 40 – [K2, K2tog] twice (6 sts) Rows 41-45 – starting with P, st st 5 rows Row 46 – [K1, K2tog] twice (4 sts) Row 47 – P2tog (2 sts) Thread yarn through remaining sts Stalks – cast on 18 sts, cast To make up, sew seams together, fill with wadding along the way. Chainmail kayray.org/2007/10/16/knitted-chainmail-hauberk-for-a-young-knight/ This gives instructions of how to knit a shirt of chain mail – it may also be nice to knit simple squares of chain mail to add to the yarn bomb around trees or furniture! This could be done using a lovely thick grey or silver yarn and knitting on needles 4mm thinner than the yarn size in garter stitch.
