From the Principal
2nd September, 2015
The first week of Spring is upon us and I am going to write something different for my Yabber item.
This week is SAS STAFF RECOGNITION WEEK.
At York Public School, as in all Public Schools in NSW, we have staff called ‘SAS staff’. These include
our office staff, our general assistants as well as our School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs).
It is the week we recognise all these members of our staff at York and thank them for the dedication to
our students, teachers and community.
Thank you goes to:
Lisa Dowton, our School Administrative Manager;
Leslee Byrne, Emma Tii Tii, Brooke Wyngaard and Janet Delanoue; our School Administrative
Officers.
Bob Cooke and John Priestly; our General Assistants who do so well to maintain our school and
grounds.
Linda Buchanan, Chris Knight, Helen Hosie, Doreen Cranridge, Darren Pearson, Mary Rose Cullen,
Wendy Wood, Bronwen Attard, Jacinta Bender, Joshua O’Grady and Melissa Amey; our School
Learning Support Officers who support our students in the classroom and the playground with their
learning and health care needs.
I cannot express to the community enough how vital all of these staff members are to our school,
dedicating their work life to our students.
If you come across any of these wonderful people this week, please take a minute to thank them for all
that they do at York Public School.
I thank each and everyone one of them from the bottom of my heart.

NOTIFYING THE SCHOOL – CHILD’S HEALTH
We welcome information from parents about your
child's health, even if you are not requesting specific
support from our school. Our school asks for medical
information when you enrol your child. It is also
important that you let us know if your child’s health
care needs change or if a new health condition
develops.
Information about allergies, medical conditions such
as asthma and diabetes and other health care related
issues (including prior conditions such as medical
procedures in the last 12 months) should be provided
to the school by parents.
Please provide this
information in writing to the Principal. This will greatly
assist our school in planning to support your child’s
health and wellbeing.
Please also remember to notify staff in the school
office of any changes to your contact details or to the
contact details of other people nominated as
emergency contacts.
We appreciate your assistance in this regard and
assure you that any information you provide the
school will be stored securely and will only be used or
disclosed in order to support your son or daughter’s
health needs or as otherwise required by law.
CHOIR
THANK YOU to all Choir members for their effort this
year in both PVPAF and PULSE. I would also like to
thank the parents for their tremendous support of the
choir, in helping their children to learn the words and
for listening to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang over and over
and over and over again!!!!

JUNIOR AND SENIOR RUGBY TEAMS
Victory! Congratulations to the senior and junior
rugby league team. Both were successful in winning
the PSSA Rugby League competition. You should be
proud of all your efforts over the course of the
season.
A special thank you to Mr John Burns who trained the
boys each week and took care of the juniors week
after week.
SOUTHLANDS COMMUNITY REWARDS is off and
running. This competition runs in conjunction with the
Woolworths Earn and Learn promotion.
How does the Southlands Rewards Work? For
every $2.50 you spend in a specialty shop in
Southlands you receive 1 sticker.
For every $10 you spend at Woolworths you also
receive 1 Southlands sticker (not to be confused
with the Earn and Learn stickers).
Place your Southlands sticker on their rewards card
(located in each shop), fill in school details and place
them in the barrel near Donut King. Over the last 4
years York Public School has received over $12,000
from this competition which has enabled us to buy
cameras, a sound system for the hall and musical
instruments. This is a great competition for the
school and I encourage everyone to get behind it.
Junior Rugby League Team
When you shop at Woolworths, at the checkout ask
for the Earn and Learn stickers, then proceed to the
FRONT COUNTER, show your Woolworths docket
and they will give you the Southlands Reward
stickers. TO RECEIVE ANY STICKERS YOU HAVE TO ASK
– SOME SHOPS/ CASHIERS FORGET TO HAND THEM OUT.
Thank you for your support in these promotions.

UPDATE – PLEASE READ
Concerns have been raised regarding the ‘Cosmic
Light Beam Torch’ reward item due to the inclusion of
four button batteries that can be accessed by
unscrewing the back of the torch.
Whilst this reward has been independently tested and
deemed to meet relevant product standards the
Commonwealth Bank have made the decision to
proactively withdraw this item from the School
Banking Rewards Program.
Parents/Guardians are requested to dispose of any
‘Cosmic Light Beam Torches’ their child may have
already received as part of the Rewards Program.
Students who have previously received a ‘Cosmic
