A San Mateo County Park The North County Water District owns and manages a portion of the Park in order to protect an important source of clean water for the community. San Mateo County Parks The Department manages parks, trails, and historic sites to preserve public lands and provide opportunities for education and recreation. The system’s properties include parks, preserves, trails, and historic sites located throughout the County and encompassing more than 17,000 acres. The parks represent our region’s wondrously diverse natural settings, from rugged tidepools, lush mountain forests, and remote campsites to Bayfront shoreline, sunny picnic areas, and popular playgrounds. You can volunteer to help rangers protect and improve parklands and serve park visitors. The San Mateo County Parks Foundation raises funds to improve the quality of County Parks for our community. For information, visit www.SupportParks.org. San Mateo County Parks November 2015 The Park’s coastal scrub, grassland, and riparian habitats host a diversity of flora and fauna. Two forks of the San Pedro Creek provide spawning habitat for steelhead trout. Popular with hikers, the Park’s trails range from easy strolls to challenging climbs. The Montara Mountain Trail offers views of the Pacific Ocean. Some trails are also open to bicyclists and equestrians. The Visitor Center, near the park entrance, includes exhibits about the Park’s natural history, a small bookstore, and a library. The Center can be reserved for meetings of up to 30 people. Picnicking is popular in San Pedro Valley. In addition to the many drop-in picnic areas, one small and two large group picnic sites may be reserved.
