The centre is located near Ravensdale Forest recipient of the National Forestry Award, and is close to the scenic Cooley Mountains that sweep down to the medieval town of Carlingford on the banks of Carlingford Lough. Full Day Activities Carlingford Lough Angling Carlingford Lough Sea Angling provides a safe, modern, all year round sea fishing facility. The rich fishing grounds of the north east coast provide some of the best sea fishing in Irish coastal waters. Carlingford Lough holds the Irish Record for tope at 661⁄2lbs and specimen fish are frequently caught. Oliver Finnegan, skipper of the Sharon Michélé, has many years seafaring experience and has pioneered sea angling round the Lough and the north eastern coast of Ireland. So, if Angling is your thing the Sharon Michélé will keep you safe on the waters of the Lough! Cycle the Táin Trail The route is about 40km long and can be walked comfortably in two days. It starts in the heritage town of Carlingford, the way rises out of the town to run as a forest track along the northern slopes of Carlingford Mountain, giving wonderful views of the Mournes, before dipping to sea level at the town of Omeath. The Way then rises steeply on narrow roads and tracks through open country to a pass (430m) in the midst of the mountains. It then descends again to Ravensdale, where there are forest trails and accommodation. Irish Country Quads in Inniskeen! Take a break from life in the fast lane. The trail includes an underground tunnel with splash, overhead bridges, water splash drive, tight corners, large circular track, bumpy ground and muddy ditches. An Táin Theatre Built in 1859 for the Corn Exchange Company, the cost of building put the company into liquidation and so the Town Commissioners bought it for 4,000 pounds. Later destroyed by fire, the newly renovated Táin Theatre is host to all forms of entertainment, from Comedians, Ballet, Opera, amateur Theatre Groups- whatever your taste in performance, An Táin Theatre has something to whet the appetite! Newgrange Farm is a 333 acre farm situated in the beautiful and historic Boyne Valley and surrounds the famous National Monument of Newgrange. This is a genuine family owned and run working farm /educational facility, where adults and children can try the “hands on” experience of bottle feeding, holding, petting, and seeing all the usual farm animals and poultry, and much, much more. Dundalk Ice Dome, is the home of Irelands first indoor Olympic size ice rink. If you want to enjoy the pleasure of ice skating, the thrill of ice hockey, or the excitement of curling and figure skating, come to the Ice Dome. Everybody is catered for, from the novice beginner to the international athlete. Stephenstown Pond & Agnes Burn’s Cottage Stephenstown Pond Project has been developed in three stages. Development work on the disused Stephenstown Pond was carried out in 1995 (it took one year), the Nature Park opened in July, 1996 with a crowd of over 1,300 people present. The Agnes Burns Cottage & Visitor Centre is situated adjacent to Stephenstown Pond Amenity Park. This cottage was once the home of Agnes Burns and her husband William Galt (Agnes was the sister of Scotland’s National Poet, Robert Burns - famous for writing such lyrics as Auld Lang Syne and My Love is Like a Red Red Rose). Today, it is a place for the family, walk and enjoy nature at the pond, push the children on the swings in the playground, or just relax and enjoy a cup of tea and a scone in the restored cottage.
