The annual event returns to Pellissippi State Community College on Saturday, April 27th from 8:00am to 4:00pm. The primary emphasis of the event is a “hands on” driving experience that teaches participants to safely handle a 2,000 lb. vehicle in less-thanideal situations. Participants drive their own vehicle with a qualified instructor in the car to show them how to handle a variety of situations and improve their driving ability and control. Throughout the day, students will work one on one with their instructor to maneuver through carefully designed exercises, working to learn from their mistakes and improve their skills and handling abilities. The Tire Rack’s Street Survival mission is to educate teens and young adults to become better, safer drivers. The program was formed in 2002 and held 93 classes in over 60 locations last year. Their goal for 2013 is to hold over 100 classes. The class fee is $75 per student and registra- tion is available to all drivers age 15 and up. (Special requirements apply to drivers who only carry a permit or are under the age of 18). For more details and to access the online registration form, please visit http://www.streetsurvival.org/school-scheduleregistration/. Additionally, volunteers are needed to help facilitate this year’s event. If you are excited about helping young adults become smarter, safer drivers, please contact Mike Hagood at [email protected] to volunteer your time.
