Partners in Education (PIE): The program is designed to integrate community resources into the curriculum,
making learning more meaningful and relevant for students. PIE School/Community Facilitators are assigned a
cluster of schools and work to identify community resources to impact classroom instruction. PIE is looking for
classroom presenters for career fairs, career shadowing and business partner internships.

Emergency Preparedness & Support
The Rockwood School District is committed to taking proactive measures to protect the safety of all our students
and staff members. We have made preparations to deal effectively with emergency situations that could occur in or
around the school while classes are in session. While we hope that a natural disaster or other serious incident never
occurs, our goal is to be as prepared as possible for any potential emergency. Our priority at all times is to protect all
students and staff from harm.
Crisis Communications
The Department of Communications, in conjunction with emergency response teams, issues emergency information
via radio, television, the district website and the automatic notification system.
TV/Radio:
KMOX 1120 (AM)
KTRS 550 (AM)
KTVI Channel 2 (TV)
KMOV Channel 4 (TV)
KSDK Channel 5 (TV)
KPLR Channel 11 (TV)
Crisis Intervention
Shonda Ambers-Phillips, coordinator of guidance and prevention services, and Dr. Katie Reboulet, assistant
superintendent for human resources, and their staffs provide additional support.
Parent Procedures
Do:
Visit the district and/or school websites at www.rockwood.k12.mo.us.
Tune in to local TV and radio stations. Tune your radio to KMOX 1120 or KTRS 550, or stay tuned to TV
channels KTVI Ch. 2, KMOV Ch. 4, KSDK Ch. 5 and KPLR Ch. 11 for emergency announcements and status
reports. The announcements will also include instructions on where, when and how you should pick up your child.
Check your phone for a message from the Rockwood Connect notification system.
Talk to your children. Emphasize how important it is for them to follow instructions from their teachers and
school officials during an emergency.
Carefully read all information you receive from the school, as you may receive updates about Rockwood safety
precautions from time to time.
Do not:
Telephone the school. We understand and respect your concern, but it is essential that the telephone system be
available for emergency communications.
Come to the school or evacuation location until you are instructed to do so. It may be necessary to keep the
streets and parking lots clear for emergency vehicles. If an evacuation is required, students may be transported to
a location away from the school. You’ll be notified of this through a variety of emergency message methods.

Legislative Information
Missouri Legislators
Look up your state officials at www.senate.mo.gov and www.house.mo.gov.
Writing a letter to your state legislators is a great way to let them know what issues matter most to you.
Consider the following suggestions when composing your letter:
n I dentify yourself, the city in which you live, the school district where your children attend and anything else that
might relate to the topic of your letter.
n Identify the issue of concern and the bill number.
n C
learly state your position on an issue. Explain it in a manner that is understandable. Include only one issue per
letter.
n B
e concise with your letters. A letter that is too long will not get as much attention as a well-written,
one-page letter.
n Check your spelling and grammar.
n Make sure your letter is addressed correctly:

Rockwood Transportation Services
In Rockwood, we understand that school buses are an extension of the classroom. The mission of the Rockwood
Transportation Department is to provide safe, reliable and efficient transportation services for our students.
Working together with First Student, Inc. (formerly Laidlaw) and Durham bus services, the district transports more
than 10,000 students each day, traveling more than 5 million miles per year. The goal is to provide dependable, safe
transportation for all children entrusted in our care.
Parents can find information about the following on the Rockwood Transportation Web page at

Free and Reduced Price Meals
Families are given the opportunity to apply for free and reduced price meals. To apply, a family must complete a free and reduced
price meal application form and return a signed copy to the school. Eligibility is based on household income, which will be verified.
Smart Snacks
Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards are being implemented during the 2014-2015 school year. Here are a few things
parents need to know:
n S
mart Snacks will apply to all foods and beverages sold to students outside of the school meals programs - including vending
machines, a la carte, school stores, snack carts and in-school fundraising.
n S
mart Snacks will be in effect all school day - including before school and 30 minutes after the end of the school day - across the
whole school campus.
n Smart Snacks will not apply to foods being sent from home, such as a bagged lunch. In addition, the standards do not apply to classroom celebrations and during evening, weekend or community events.
In addition, our school administrators will be able to help our school volunteers with the implementation of these USDA standards
at our schools. For more information, contact Rockwood Child Nutrition at (636) 733-3250.
MySchoolBucks
Rockwood Child Nutrition has a family-friendly system called MySchoolBucks, which offers parents a secure system for school
meal payments or for viewing student meal account information. Program features include:
n 24/7 access to accounts and balances
n S
ecure online payments through credit/debit cards and PayPal accounts
n One meal account per family will allow for easy management of funds (Child Nutrition recomends parents deposit money
into their child’s account monthly to prevent the district from paying additional fees to MySchoolBucks).
n I temized purchase history up to 30 days can be viewed in online account
n A
utomatic notification sent to e-mail when balances are low
Parents will need to log-in and create an account on myschoolbucks.com in order to use this system.

Healthy Alternative Birthday Treats include class parties.
Rockwood Connect
Rockwood informs parents of school news and district emergencies through an automatic notification system called Rockwood
Connect.
Parents will receive two types of information:
1) Emergency Messages: The Rockwood School District will make every attempt to contact parents via phone
(household, cell and work) in case of a crisis situation at the district or school. The safety of our students is our priority, and we
will keep parents informed through regular updates via phone, email and text using our automatic notification system.
Parent Procedures
In order for our emergency response plans to be effective, we must depend on the cooperation and assistance of many people, such
as local police and fire departments. We also depend upon the parents of our students to support our efforts. Your cooperation
is vital to helping us protect the safety and welfare of all children and school employees. Therefore, we ask parents to observe the
following procedures during a crisis situation:
Do:
n
n
n
n
n
Check your phone for a voice/text message from the Rockwood Connect notification system. These announcements will include instructions on where, when and how you should pick up your child.
Visit the district and/or school websites for the most up-to-date information. Also check Facebook and Twitter for
situation updates.
Tune in to local TV and radio stations. Check KMOX 1120 or KTRS 550, or stay tuned to TV channels KTVI Ch. 2,
KMOV Ch. 4, KSDK Ch. 5 and KPLR Ch. 11 for emergency announcements and status reports.
Talk to your children. Emphasize how important it is for them to follow instructions from their teachers and school officials
during an emergency.
Carefully read all information you receive from the school, as you may receive updates about Rockwood safety precautions from time to time.
Do not:
n Do not telephone the school. We understand and respect your concern, but it is essential that the telephone system be
available for emergency communications.
n Do not come to the school or evacuation location until you are instructed to do so. It may be necessary to keep the streets
and parking lot clear for emergency vehicles. If an evacuation is required, students may be transported to a location away
from the school. You will be notified of this through a variety of emergency message methods
2) Outreach Messages: Schools keep parents connected to news and information using the options provided by the
district’s automatic notification system. Parents receive these informational phone calls to their cell phones (primary and secondary
cell phone numbers as listed in their child’s contact information on Infinite Campus):
The successful delivery of information is dependent upon accurate contact information.
Check your family’s phone numbers and email addresses on the Infinite Campus Portal. If you do not have an Infinite Campus
account, please contact your school’s administrative office.
If your contact information changes, please notify the school registrar immediately. Rockwood’s automatic notification system
receives an upload of student contact information each evening to ensure we have the most up-to-date contact information for
our students.
