At 541 feet = 165 m, the Singapore Flyer is the largest observation wheel
in the world. Its 28 gondolas hold 28 people each, for a total of 784
riders. A revolution takes 30 minutes. The vista extends across the Straits
of Singapore to Indonesia and northward to Malaysia. The Flyer facility also
offers spa, shopping and dining amenities (all of which are on the ground).

As the name implies, the Star of Nanchang is currently the world's second
tallest operating Ferris wheel, and a pride of Nanchang, capital city of
Jiangxi Province in East China.
The 160-meter-tall giant has 60 enclosed air-conditioned gondolas, with
each carrying eight passengers, for a maximum capacity of 480
passengers. A single rotation takes approximately 30 minutes; the slow
rotation speed allows passengers to embark and disembark without the
wheel having to stop turning. And, it's cheap, at only 50 yuan ($8).

1. BIG WHEEL
At 550 feet, the High Roller is 9 feet taller than its closest competitor, the
Singapore Flyer, and 100 feet taller than the London Eye. It's a hair taller
than the Bellagio hotel, though not as tall as the Wynn Las Vegas. But it
won't be the looking down on the rest for long. The 625-foot New York
Wheel is expected to steal its tallest-in-the-world thunder in 2016. And a
rival company is building SkyVue, a 500-foot observation wheel at the
southern end of the Strip.
2. STEEL DEAL
— The wheel, being built between the Flamingo and Harrah's hotel-casino
as part of the outdoor Linq project by Caesars Entertainment Corp., will
carry 3.5 million pounds of steel. That's more than the weight of 200
Hummers.

— Each cable holding the wheel in place has a breaking force equal to 550
tons, the weight of nearly 100 elephants.
4. MADE IN ??
— Workers have assembled parts of the wheel over the course of two years
in China, Japan, France, Sweden, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and
Colorado.
The New York Wheel promises to become one of the City’s–and the
world’s–great landmark attractions, alongside the Statue of Liberty and the
Empire State Building. Located on the northeastern side of Staten Island (St.
George), the 630-foot, or roughly 60-story, attraction will be the tallest
observation wheel in the world and the only one in New York City.
The Wheel will accommodate up to 1,440 people per ride, welcoming as
many as 30,000 visitors per day and an anticipated 4+ million visitors per

The New York Wheel will be open 7 days a week, approximately 350 days
per year (accounting for severe weather days and maintenance) from 10
a.m. to 10 p.m./12 a.m. in the fall, winter and spring, and staying open as
late as 2 a.m. on special occasions.
