Anaesthetists
The majority of cosmetic surgery procedures have to be carried
out under general anaesthetic, which is simply the careful and
precise administration of a combination of drugs to keep you
unconscious and free of pain during the procedure.
This is an area that patients, understandably,
are often concerned about. However, as
cosmetic surgery is an elective procedure,
you will always meet your anaesthetist prior
to going to theatre, to put your mind at ease.
The Hospital Group only uses consultant
anaesthetists, who are highly qualified
and experienced.
The anaesthetist carries out important health
checks to ensure that you are fit and well
for surgery, and to calculate the correct
anaesthesia for your procedure. They will
take time to explain the process to you and
answer your questions. Like the procedure
itself, every step of your anaesthesia will be
fully explained. The key to our success is
making YOUR CARE our principal concern
Here is a brief biography on just two
consultant anaesthetists. There are
approximately 20 anaesthetists who
practice in our theatres.
Dr. Mike Smith,
Consultant Anaesthetist
After graduating in pharmacology, Mike Smith
studied further to qualify as a doctor and then
took specialist postgraduate anaesthesia
training. His career experience includes the
post of consultant anaesthetist at University
Hospital Trust, Birmingham.
See our website or YouTube channel for
a video interview with Mike Smith, who
explains the anaesthetic process in his
characteristic calm and clear manner: www.
thehospitalgroup.org/expertise-and-facilities.
Dr. Suki Singh,
Consultant Anaesthetist
Consultant anaesthetist, Suki Singh has held
a number of top posts in NHS hospitals.
His passion for the subject also sees him
lecturing to medical students, as well as
writing medical papers and presenting his
research nationally and internationally.
His first class academic achievements and
extensive hospital experience make Suki a
valuable member of the anaesthetist team.

Nursing Team
The nursing team are the very foundation of patient care,
providing one-to-one support before, during and after any
cosmetic surgery procedure to ensure you receive the best
possible results with excellent healing.
The Hospital Group has a specialist nursing team at our
operating facilities, including ward and theatre nurses as
well as a nationwide clinic team for localised care.
The theatre teams are specialists in cosmetic
surgery procedures. These experienced
nurses and technicians support surgeons
during thousands of operations each year.
You can therefore be confident that you are
in safe hands with our high quality ward staff
and theatre team.
Clinic nursing team
Across our network of clinics, we have
specially-trained nurses to work alongside
cosmetic surgeons, providing essential care
for our patients.
The care begins with the pre-operative
medical consultation. If you decide to
go ahead with surgery following your
consultation with a cosmetic surgeon and
patient care co-ordinator, you will meet
your clinic nurse, who will assess your
health and provide valuable information
before your procedure.
After your procedure, you will see the clinic
nurse regularly for review appointments and
wound care, to ensure you get great results
with excellent healing.

NURSE
Nicola Marbrow
Based at our
Nottingham clinic:
“
I absolutely love my job
as a Hospital Group nurse.
I get a great feeling from caring
for patients and ensuring their
entire experience is a pleasant
one. What I enjoy the most
is seeing my patients after
they’ve had their procedure
and witnessing their reaction
to their new face or body. It is
different to any other nursing
roles I’ve had as patients elect
into having surgery, and are
therefore really passionate
about it!

Hospitals and
Clinical Facilities
In choosing your cosmetic surgery provider, it is important to
consider not only the surgeon, but also the operating facilities
where your procedure will take place.
While some cosmetic surgery providers,
essentially, rent facilities, The Hospital Group
has its own private hospital, Dolan Park,
giving us complete control so that we can
tailor a 5-star service to meet the specific
needs of our patients.
This hospital is wholly-owned by The Hospital
Group and is the largest specialist facility of
its kind in the world, boasting four operating
theatres and over 30 bedrooms (all with
en-suite facilities, TV and wi-fi access).
A private twin room is also available
for friends or relations who are having
procedures together.
14
Introduction
Transport to and from the hospital is offered,
but if the location of Dolan Park Hospital is
not suitable, we have other facilities in the
UK, as well as Spain and Ireland. In addition,
we are committed to expanding our network
of surgical facilities.

INFORMATION

Park Hospital is available on our

Clinic Network
Your local clinic is where your cosmetic surgery journey begins.
It is here that you will first meet your surgeon,
clinic nurse and patient care co-ordinator to
learn about your procedure and have
pre-operative medical examinations.
After your procedure, you will visit your local
clinic for all your post-operative care and
review appointments.
All our clinics are open six days a week
and offer evening as well as daytime
appointments. Our team are available if you
need additional appointments for specific
queries at any point in the process.
To make the experience as comfortable
as possible, we are also investing in our clinic
environments to make them professional,
well-appointed and equipped to a high
standard. Our latest ‘high street’ clinics offer
a decidedly non-clinical ambience and are
more akin to a luxury boutique than
anything medical.
We are committed to making cosmetic
surgery widely available, and invest heavily in
our network of clinics in high street locations
around the UK, Ireland, Spain and the USA.

Your Consultation
When you are ready to learn more about cosmetic surgery, the
next step is a private consultation with a cosmetic surgeon at
your local clinic.
Some companies and surgeons charge for this, but we believe
in making the research stage widely available, therefore our
cosmetic surgery consultations are free of charge.
Your consultation
will include:
• Completion of a medical questionnaire
before meeting with a cosmetic surgeon
• Discussion of availability for treatment and
the expected timescale
• Individual information on the various
treatments available and expert advice on
the likely outcome so that you can make
an informed decision
• A personal quotation based on your
individual requirements
• Opportunity to see ‘before and after’
photos of previous patients
• Discussion about all aspects of your
surgery from anaesthesia to recovery
and aftercare
• Meeting with your appointed patient care
co-ordinator, who will be with you every
step of the journey
• Your own Patient Information Booklet,
which provides comprehensive information
on cosmetic surgery, post operative care
and recovery
This consultation will help you make an
informed decision. There is no obligation to
proceed, so you can take your own time to
decide whether to move forward. You are
welcome to bring a family member or friend
for support, or a second opinion too, which
some patients find helpful.

Cosmetic Surgery
Consultation Tips

20
Ask yourself why you want cosmetic surgery, and make sure you are
doing it for the right reasons. It’s a big decision to undergo surgery.
You should be very confident that you have thought about it thoroughly.
Choose a reputable and experienced cosmetic surgeon, who will discuss
both the benefits and the risks of the procedure before you undergo any
surgery. This will ensure you are completely comfortable with your choice
of surgeon, as well as having a detailed and realistic understanding of the
likely outcome.
Beware of cheap cosmetic surgery deals abroad. If a deal seems too
good to be true it often is!
When you meet your surgeon, make sure you’re prepared. Take a
list of questions and ask everything you can think of, including risks,
complications, recovery and aftercare. Take notes so that you can check
back afterwards.

10
If your surgeon refuses to do something, it will be for a good reason.
Respect and listen to him and ask him to explain what is in your best
interest. If you’re still unsure, seek a second opinion.
Make sure you’ve done your homework and are fully informed on the
procedure. Read the website and any literature you are given thoroughly.
Make sure the timing is right. If you have recently experienced stressful,
emotional or life-changing events, you may want to avoid surgery until you
have recovered emotionally.
Be realistic about your expectations. Cosmetic surgery can have an
amazing impact on a person’s life, but it is not intended to change
deep-rooted body-image issues.
Talk about your surgery with a trusted friend or family member.
At The Hospital Group, experienced patient care co-ordinators are
available for patients to discuss any worries or concerns.
Think about the best timing and be sure to schedule yourself plenty of
recovery time. Your body needs time to heal after any surgery, so take
some time off and allow yourself to relax.

Breast Surgery
The breast enlargement is the UK’s most popular cosmetic
surgery procedure and continues to grow. According to BAAPS
(British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons), 94,181 were
performed last year.
Breast augmentation
The breast enlargement procedure very
simply adds volume to the breast, making
it larger and rounder with the addition of
modern breast implants.
This procedure is ideal for:
•Women who are naturally flat-chested
• Patients who want a “curvier” and more
feminine shape
• Women who have lost volume in their
breasts, either through breast feeding,
weight loss, pregnancy or ageing
• Those who feel that their breasts are out
of proportion with the rest of their body
• Ladies with asymmetrical breasts
(one larger than the other)
Depending on your requirements you may
choose to have a breast uplift in addition to,
or instead of, a breast enlargement.
26
Cosmetic surgery for women
The breast augmentation
procedure
A breast enlargement involves the insertion of
a pair of breast implants. The surgeon starts
by making a small incision – this is normally
in the crease just below the breast, so it will
be unnoticeable under normal underwear
after healing.
The surgeon will then create a pocket for the
implant to go in. At your consultation and in
discussion with you, your surgeon will choose
the positioning of the implant, depending on
your physical characteristics and the look you
are trying to achieve.
•“Submuscular” - implant placed partially
or totally under the pectoralis major muscle
•“Subglandular” - implant placed on top
of the muscle and over the glands
After careful placement of the implant,
the opening is stitched and the wound is
dressed. You will be given specific aftercare
instructions by your surgeon, but most
patients are advised to wear a post-operative
bra or chest strap for the first few weeks.
You should expect to take a week off work.
Breast implants
As part of our commitment to ensuring
you get the best possible results from your
surgery, The Hospital Group invest in the
latest breast implants from the world’s leading
suppliers. We give patients the choice of
three different types of implants, Allergan’s
CUI or Natrelle implants, and our latest,

Tuesday 23rd August:
Consultation Day!
Had my consultation with my surgeon
and patient care co-ordinator who
were both lovely and put me at ease
straight away. I tried different sized
implants, before deciding which size
was best for me and my frame with
my surgeon’s help! Going for late
September to have my op…
how exciting!
Thursday 25th August:
Phoned up and booked my breast
enlargement op for September 20th,
and can’t wait! I paid my deposit over
the phone, and now just counting
down the days!
Monday 5th September:
Paid balance of my breast enlargement
today! Just 15 days to go!
Tuesday 20th September:
Operation Day!
Woohoo..its finally here…the day of
my breast enlargement! Was picked
up from my house early this morning
by my own personal chauffeur who
drove me to the hospital. We pulled
up at the hospital and he carried my
bags in for me…WOW what a place,
it looked more like a hotel!
The nurse showed me to my room
and settled me in before my surgeon
came to have a chat with me. I felt
nervous but really excited at the
same time.
Before
Then I met the anaesthetist who
was lovely and really calmed my nerves.
The nurse came for me about 9.30am
and she walked me up to theatres.
I saw the anaesthetist again and
before I knew it I was waking up in
the recovery room. I looked down and
I was amazed, I had a brand new pair
of boobs!
Slept for most of the afternoon,
and felt tired for most of the
evening. I didn’t feel any pain, just
a little uncomfortable at times.
But the nurses were brilliant, and
really attentive.
Wednesday 21st September:
My driver arrived to take me home.
Feeling quite good, and not in any pain.
Arrived home about midday. Now time
to take it easy!
Tuesday 27th September:
Post op review with nurse, had
my stitches taken out and booked my
review appointment with my surgeon.
I’m so thrilled with the results
and the nurse said everything is
healing well!
Saturday 1st October:
Shopping today to buy new bras!
I can’t believe I now fit into a 34D!!!

Breast uplift
The breast uplift, also known as “mastopexy”,
is a procedure that reshapes the breast to
give a pert, uplifted profile.
Your surgeon will be able to demonstrate how
this would work by gently pinching together
the skin underneath each breast to push the
breast tissue up in order to give you an idea
how a breast uplift will work for you.
The procedure is ideal for:
•Women whose breasts appear “saggy”
or pendulous
•Those who find their breast shape
altered after pregnancy, breast feeding
or weight loss
•Women whose breasts have lost tone
as a result of relaxation of the
ligaments - perhaps the nipples
pointing downwards
If the actual size or volume of the breast is
still satisfactory, then a breast uplift can
provide the shape required. For some
women, they may also require additional
volume in the breast to “fill it out”. In this
case a breast uplift can be combined with
a breast augmentation. While reshaping
the breast, the surgeon will select a suitably
sized implant to add volume and size to
the breasts.
The breast uplift procedure
In order to provide a pert profile for your
breasts, the surgeon essentially has to
remove a section of loose skin from beneath
the breast, as shown in the diagram above.
This tightens the profile of the breasts
and lifts them up.
30
Cosmetic surgery for women
Many surgeons recommend post-operative
bras in order to provide compression and
support after surgery.
Breast reduction
Also known as a “mammoplasty”, the breast
reduction is a procedure that will reduce the
size and weight of a woman’s breasts.
Far from being a blessing, an over-large
bust size can cause real discomfort, with
back and shoulder pain being very common
side-effects. Large breasts can also be
embarrassing, distressing and cause
confidence issues; as well as making clothing
choices very difficult, with sufferers having to
buy unflattering, over-large tops simply to fit
over the breasts.
A skilled surgeon will pay attention not just
to the physical aspects of a mammoplasty,
reducing the size and weight of the breasts;
but will also recognise that well-proportioned,
perfectly shaped, even breasts will be
required to produce a good aesthetic result.
The breast reduction
procedure
In order to reduce the size of your breasts,
the surgeon will carefully and skillfully remove
excess skin and breast tissue. He or she
will also take care to reshape the breast
and reposition the nipple to create a higher
bust-line.
Even with dressings and any initial swelling,
your breasts will immediately feel smaller and
lighter after surgery and you should notice
your posture improve quickly as a result.
This is a major procedure and you will spend
2 nights in hospital before returning home.
We recommend 1-2 weeks off work.
After the procedure, the breasts are smaller
and the nipples are positioned higher to
ensure a good aesthetic result.

Facial Surgery
We offer a full range of facial rejuvenation procedures which
can be chosen individually or combined for a tailor-made result
to suit your needs.
Facelift
The facelift procedure
The facelift, also known as “rhytidoplasty”,
is a procedure which rejuvenates the face
to turn back the signs of ageing.
The surgeon starts by making incisions,
which normally begin above the hairline at
the temples, follow the natural line in front
of the ear, curve behind the earlobe into the
crease behind the ear and into or along the
lower scalp.
This procedure is ideal for:
• People with a general “saggy” appearance
to the face and neck
• Wrinkles, deep lines, loose skin and/or
jowls around the cheek/neck area
Everyone’s physiology and requirements
are different, so a facelift is bespoke to the
individual. According to the needs of the
patient, it may be combined with a brow lift,
neck lift, eye bag or eyelid surgery.
As required, facial, neck tissue and muscle
will be separated, fat may be trimmed or
suctioned and underlying muscle and
deep tissues may be tightened.
The excess skin is pulled up and back,
trimmed and sutured into position. Most of
the scars will be hidden within your hair and
in the normal creases of your skin.
The initial bruising should last 7-10 days so
most people plan to have some time at home
before returning to work or normal activities.

Facial Surgery
Lower blepharoplasty
– eye bag removal
Upper blepharoplasty
– eyelid rejuvenation
“Eye bag” removal surgery has become
increasingly popular over recent years and is
actually our most commonly requested facial
rejuvenation procedure, helped by high profile
celebrities choosing it to turn back the clock.
Eyelid surgery offers a surgical solution to
drooping eyelids which can be ageing.
The procedure, known as “lower
blepharoplasty”, removes loose saggy skin
beneath the eyes to rejuvenate the face and
reduce the signs of ageing.
This procedure is ideal for:
• People with heavy eyelids, making a
person look sad, tired and older than
they really are
• Deep wrinkles around the eyes
This procedure is ideal for:
The procedure is similar to the lower
blepharoplasty, but instead removes excess
skin above the eyes to rejuvenate and refresh
the face.
• People with heavy bags beneath the eyes,
which make a person look tired and worn
Both upper and lower blepharoplasty can be
performed with a facelift procedure.
This procedure can really open up the eyes to
create a more youthful appearance.
• Deep wrinkles around the eyes

Brow lift
Otoplasty – ear reshaping
The brow lift is a procedure which
specifically targets loose skin and wrinkles
on the forehead.
If you have large, protruding or misshapen
ears, then you may consider simple ear
surgery to have them corrected. Abnormally
shaped ears or “sticking out” ears can cause
great embarrassment.
This procedure is ideal for:
• People with a “saggy” appearance to
the forehead
• Wrinkles, deep lines, loose skin on the brow
A brow lift may be all it takes for a younger
looking face. Alternatively, it may be
completed as part of a facelift or in
conjunction with other procedures such as
eye bag removal, eyelid rejuvenation, or neck
lift surgery.
Otoplasty is one of our most common
procedures and is chosen by both men
and women to correct this often distressing
problem once and for all.
This procedure is ideal for a number
of conditions:
• “Pinning back” protruding ears to sit closer
to the patient’s head - this is the most
common application
Neck lift
• Reducing the overall size of your ears
The neck lift is performed to smooth out the
appearance of loose or excess skin in the
neck area, which is particularly ageing. A chin
tuck will bring definition specifically to the
chin and jaw area.
• Correcting any irregularities in the shape
of the ears
This procedure is ideal for:
• People with “saggy”, loose or wrinkly
neck skin
Patients report the dramatic difference
correcting their ears has on their lives as
well as their appearance. The procedure has
long-lasting results. After healing, friends and
family tend to forget about it until they look
back on photographs.
•L
oose skin left after significant weight loss
•P
atients whose chin and/or jaw line
lack definition
The right procedure will remove excess skin
to produce a smoother neck profile and bring
back definition to the chin and jaw line. The
neck lift is often combined with a Facelift.

Rhinoplasty –
nose reshaping
The rhinoplasty procedure
Very few of us are born with the “perfect
nose” and many people are dissatisfied
with what nature provides. The nose job,
officially called “rhinoplasty”, is one of the
top procedures performed and is a popular
choice for both men and women to reshape
the nose to bring aesthetic proportion and
symmetry to the face.
The procedure is ideal for:
• Over-large, long or wide noses
• Humps or bumps protruding from the nose
Most plastic surgeons perform rhinoplasty
from within the nose, making their incisions
inside the nostrils so scarring is undetectable.
Occasionally in more complicated procedures
an “open procedure” (operating from outside
of the nose) is more suitable. Your surgeon
will advise on this in your consultation.
After your surgery is completed, you will have
a plaster cast that is applied in the operating
theatre. This plaster cast will normally stay
in place for 7 days, so most people choose
to stay at home and relax for that period to
avoid being seen in public.
• Breathing difficulties
You will probably have very clear ideas about
what parts of your nose you want to minimise
and the eventual shape you’d like to achieve.
At your consultation, the surgeon will give
you honest, expert advice on what sort of
outcome you could expect.

Body Surgery
Patients choose to have Body Surgery for a number of different
reasons, and we have a variety of procedures to choose
from. These procedures involve reshaping, tightening and fat
removal. Factors such as age, weight loss and pregnancy can
affect the body's skin tissue, causing excess skin and fatty
deposits that are often difficult to get rid of through diet and
exercise alone.
Liposculpture – liposuction
Liposuction is one of the most popular
cosmetic surgery procedures for the body.
The procedure is used to remove stubborn
or excess fat areas.
Liposculpture is technically a similar
procedure, but the emphasis is on the
aesthetic result. We ONLY practise
liposculpture at The Hospital Group,
which means that our expert surgeons
spend longer in surgery to ensure that
they produce a smooth, contoured profile
Popular areas for liposculpture include:
• Tummy
• Thighs
• Buttocks
• Chin
• Male breasts
However, the procedure can be used on
almost any area of the face or body, other
options include: chest, arms, back, knees,
calves and ankles.

The liposculpture procedure
Advantages of Vaser® Lipo:
The surgeon makes small incisions in the
chosen area, inserts a cannula (special
tube) and extracts the excess fat deposits,
concentrating on delivering a good aesthetic
result - smooth and nicely contoured.
• No general anaesthetic required
- local anaesthetic only
Depending on the area of surgery, you may
be advised to wear special post-operative
garments, which are designed to apply
pressure and help get the best final result
by encouraging the shaping of your new
contour. This also reduces swelling and
bleeding and so aids your recovery. Garments
such as this are normally worn for the first
2 weeks.
• Minimal discomfort and downtime
- less bruising than traditional liposuction
Vaser® Lipo
• Minimal risk of bleeding
Vaser Lipo is The Hospital Group’s new

It is a highly efficient yet minimally invasive
fat removal procedure. It is different to other
traditional liposuction techniques as it uses
ultrasound technology to break down the
fat before gently removing it.
• Tightens the skin
®
• Day case procedure in clinic - no overnight
stay in hospital
• Immediately visible results, with
improvement over 3-6 months afterwards
• Removes significant fat
• Tissue-selective, targeting fat deposits only
without damaging other body tissues - safe
and gentle approach
• Suitable for large or small areas
• Safe and effective procedure
• Suitable for both women and men

Abdominoplasty – tummy tuck
The abdominoplasty procedure, commonly known
as a “tummy tuck”, is a procedure that reshapes the
stomach/abdomen area to give a flatter, smoother profile.
The procedure is ideal for:
• Removing excess skin and fat, perhaps after pregnancy

• People whose “tummy bulge” or “pot belly”
is resistant to diet and exercise - this may

After battling with obesity for years, Julie
finally underwent a gastric bypass. Just one
year later, she’d lost an incredible 9 stone. She
looked and felt a million times better. She’s rightly
proud of her achievement, but sadly, losing a

chose to have a tummy tuck to sort her sagging
stomach out and now has a perfect flat, trim
stomach that people 20 years younger would
envy. See an interview with Julie the day after

The abdominoplasty
procedure
Arm lift, thigh lift,
buttock lift, body lift
The abdominoplasty is carried out under
general anaesthetic. It is major surgery
and takes around 2-3 hours in theatre to
complete. You should anticipate a 2 night
stay before returning home to continue
your recovery.
If you have unsightly excess loose skin in a
particular area of the body, it can be surgically
removed. This can be as a result of ageing or
significant weight loss.
Firstly, the surgeon will carefully make
incisions around the abdominal area.
Surplus skin and fat deposits are
removed. If necessary, muscles will also
be tightened. The result is a smoother,
flatter stomach profile.
Most people take a couple of weeks off
normal activities to recover. You should
expect to be fitted with an abdominal binder
in theatre and will wear this for the first 6
weeks of healing. It may be longer in the case
of very large procedures.
The binder applies the correct pressure to
the abdominal region, which stops fluid from
building up, prevents swelling and reduces
bleeding, thus helping with the final result.
Creams, diet and exercise could never
accomplish what surgery can in removing
excess skin to produce a sleeker profile.
As the UK market leaders in weight loss
surgery, we have gastric band patients who
lose over 10 stone and many of these do
go on to require cosmetic surgery to deal
with the excess skin, so we understand the
requirements well.
The most common problem area is the
arms, where the skin beneath the upper
arms can sag and create a loose bag of
skin, known as “bingo wings”, which can
be embarrassing and look unsightly in
short-sleeved tops.
A similar condition can be seen in the
thighs or the buttocks. Where the excess
skin is around the torso, then a “body lift”
may be required.
Where there is excess fat as well as skin,
liposculpture will also be used to remove
excess fat and create an optimum result.

Cosmetic
Gynaecology
Many women have concerns or embarrassment about their
private parts and simply don't know who to turn to for advice.
It may be how it looks, or else it may be lack of tightness after
childbirth or lack of pelvic floor tone; which could cause urinary
incontinence and/or loss of sensation during sexual intercourse.
Cosmetic Gynaecology can help a lot of women get over
the embarrassment and distress they feel when with a
sexual partner.
Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty, otherwise known as Labia
Reduction, is surgery to correct and define
the appearance of the inner labia. It is
extremely common for women to have
insecurities about the size and shape of their
labia. They may be long (sometimes causing
discomfort under clothing), unequal
or misshapen.
Labiaplasty can help a lot of women get over
the embarrassment and distress they feel
when with a sexual partner. This procedure
will help you get your confidence back and
feel like a real woman again.
The Labiaplasty procedure is performed
under a general anaesthetic, and takes
approximately one hour in theatre. It involves
reducing and/or reshaping the labia minora
to give a neater appearance. Patients can
experience swelling and discomfort after the
procedure, however this usually subsides
after 1-2 weeks.

Cosmetic surgery for women
Perineum and Pelvic
Floor Repair
If your perineum (the area between the
vagina and anus) has been damaged during
childbirth or episiotomy, you can feel quite
"ugly". Women become shy with partners and
reluctant to have intercourse. It may be that
sex is unsatisfying due to lack of sensation.
It can even be uncomfortable or painful if the
shape of the area is very abnormal.
Women may also find that the pelvic floor area
is weakened. If unsupported, the bladder,
bowel and womb can't work properly and
may begin to push through the vaginal wall,
causing problems with the body’s ability to
pass urine and stools. The good news is that
surgery can make a massive difference to
the way you look and feel, restoring both the
cosmetic appearance of the perineum as well
as the muscle tone deep in the pelvic floor and
vaginal muscles.
The operation involves tightening the vaginal
muscles and ligaments in the back wall. It is
performed under a general anaesthetic, and
you will need to stay overnight in hospital.
Vaginal Tightening
Surgery to improve the way your vagina looks,
feels and functions is relatively straightforward,
yet it can have dramatic results in restoring
ladies' confidence and self-esteem.
The loss of muscle tone that happens as
women age can also cause a loosening of the
vaginal muscles and surrounding tissues. This
can also be made worse through child birth.
When the muscles and ligaments in the vagina
become weaker and saggier, this not only
creates less friction during sexual intercourse,
it can leave the bladder, bowel and womb
so unsupported that they can literally begin
to push through the vaginal wall. This leads
to problems with the body’s ability to pass
urine and stools. Even if they only suffer
occasional incontinence (e.g. when
sneezing) many of our patients are
concerned to seek help before things
get any worse. Pelvic floor exercises
may improve things, but they
are notoriously difficult to do,
especially when there is a lack
of muscle tone.
After surgery, you can
expect your vagina to feel
tighter, stronger and more
comfortable. Sexual
intercourse should be
more pleasurable for
both you and your
partner and any
problems passing urine
should be resolved as
your organs will be
back in their
normal position.

Cosmetic Surgery
for Men
The Hospital Group offer a vast range of cosmetic surgery
procedures for men to improve or correct imperfections
with the face or body. We recognise that an increased number
of men are interested in having cosmetic surgery and want
to ensure they are completely informed when making
their decision.
Rhinoplasty
Facelift
Rhinoplasty, or otherwise known as Nose
Reshaping is extremely popular amongst
men. Many are unhappy with their nose
because of its size, shape or due to the
fact that it has been altered following an
injury. Our cosmetic surgeons can help and
discuss what result you can expect from this
procedure. The shape of the nose can be
changed, the bridge can be repositioned,
bumps can be removed or the tip can altered.
We offer mini facelifts or full facelifts
depending on what results you want from
your procedure. Some patients want a subtle
lift and retightening of the skin, other patients
want a more drastic result.
After your surgery there will be some bruising
and swelling but this is completely normal.
You will need to wear a nose plaster cast for
approximately 7 days post operation and
then one of our nurses will remove it for you
in your first review appointment.
Eye Bag Removal
Eye bag removal, otherwise known as lower
blepheroplasty, removes the tired sagging
skin underneath the eyes that is often made
worse by old age, smoking or excessive
weight loss.
After removing the excess skin, eyes look
brighter, refreshed and the face overall looks
a lot more youthful.
46
Cosmetic surgery for men
A facelift will improve the contours, remove
heavy and tired features and can make you
look, and therefore feel younger again.
This procedure is often combined with eye
lid surgery or eye bag removal for a complete
revitalised and rejuvenated appearance.
Otoplasty
Otoplasty, or otherwise known as ear
reshaping or correction, is a procedure that
pins back protruding or imbalanced ears.
Over-sized or protruding ears can cause
embarrassment, therefore surgical correction
can bring very rewarding results.
The cosmetic surgeon will make incisions
behind each ear and remove and reshape
cartilage and skin in order to bring the ears
closer to the head, and a bandage is applied
in theatre.
Eye Lid Surgery
Eyelid Surgery,
otherwise known as upper
blepheroplasty, removes
the drooping layers of skin,
and wrinkles above the eye.
Excess skin above the eye is often
caused by old age, smoking or
can be down to genetics. After this
procedure eyes look brighter, more
awake and the face, as a result,
looks much more youthful.

Cosmetic Surgery
for Men
Tummy Tuck
The tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty is very
popular in men who have loose layers of skin
and fatty tissue around the abdomen, often
caused by dramatic weight loss. This is when
the skin loses elasticity and the only solution
to get rid of these unwanted excess layers
is surgery.
During the procedure the surgeon will remove
the excess skin and sculpt the tummy to its
natural contours resulting in a flatter and more
toned appearance.This particular procedure
involves a 2 night stay in hospital.
Liposculpture
Liposculpture removes stubborn areas of
fat which are difficult to get rid of through diet
and exercise alone. It can be performed on
numerous parts of the body including
the buttocks, thighs, abdomen, chest,
back and arms.
Liposculpture as opposed to liposuction
requires a lot more skill from the cosmetic
surgeon carrying out the procedure. It is a
more time consuming type of liposuction
with a greater focus on creating a smoother
end result, changing the contours of your
body. We also offer Vaser LipoTM which
uses ultrasonic energy to selectively break
apart fatty deposits while preserving other
important tissues. This is carried out
under a local anaesthetic.

Cosmetic surgery for men
Gynaecomastia male breast reduction
According to the latest figures from
industry body BAAPS, male breast reduction
was the second most popular procedure for
men, with procedures up a massive 28% vs
the previous year.
The appearance of “man boobs”, known as
“gynaecomastia”, relates to large or oversized breasts in men. It can be embarrassing
and cause real confidence issues
amongst men.
An over-sized male chest area may be a
result of a combination of factors, which
may include:
• Genetics - a hereditary condition
• Illness or drugs
Cosmetic surgery to correct over-large male
breasts involves liposculpture to remove
excess fat and (as required) removal of
excess skin to create a smooth and
manly profile.
• Weight gain or weight loss
Most patients are required to stay in hospital
for one night before returning home.
Due to coverage in the press and on TV,
the condition and the surgical procedure
to correct it have become much more
widely recognised.
After surgery you will be required to wear
post-operative garments, which will aid the
final result. There will be some scarring, but
these will fade over time.

Hyperhidrosis – excessive
perspiration treatment
BOTOX® is the most popular non-surgical
treatment we offer. It is a simple, non-invasive,
anti-wrinkle injection that can smooth lines for
both men and women.
As well as its uses in anti-ageing treatments,
BOTOX® also has an application for
reducing excessive sweating. It is injected
into the underarm area, where it effectively
disables the sweat glands to stop sweating
for a few months.
BOTOX® is a natural purified protein produced
by the Clostridium Botulinum Bacterium, which
reduces the activity of the muscles that cause
lines to form over time.
It works by temporarily reducing the
contractions of those muscles that
can cause permanent lines to create
a smoothed, rejuvenated appearance.
When injected into a muscle, it temporarily
blocks the chemical signals that make the
muscle contract.
Only tiny quantities of BOTOX® are
injected and only the injected muscle
will be affected.
It can be used on a number of different areas
of the face, including the forehead, glabella
(between the eyebrows), around the eye
(crows feet), around the mouth, neck and
décolletage areas.
BOTOX® lasts approximately 3-6 months and
can be topped up as regularly as required.
We offer our patients the opportunity to
attend a two week review appointment
post treatment.
This is a temporary treatment which will
need to be renewed for ongoing benefit.
It delivers tremendous relief for sufferers
of hyperhidrosis.
Juvéderm® dermal fillers
The preferred brand of filler used at
The Hospital Group is Juvéderm® Ultra.
This product helps to fill lines and creases,
creating a smoother, more youthfullooking appearance.
When injected beneath the skin, fillers plump
up creased and sunken areas of the face.
They are particularly good for crows feet,
nose to mouth lines, frown lines and
laughter lines.
Dermal fillers can also be used to provide
better definition to certain features. They are
also often used to create plumper lips, or to
raise cheekbones.
Unlike many types of filler, Juvéderm®
Ultra contains 0.3% Lidocaine local
anaesthetic making the injection process
particularly gentle.
Juvéderm® Ultra comes in a variety of
concentrations depending on which areas
of the face require treatment.
The results will generally last 12-18 months
before a top-up treatment is required.

hyaluronic acid filler which has been specially
formulated for the lip area to provide
plumpness and volume for beautiful full lips.
The product has been created especially to
suit the needs of this delicate area, preserving
softness and sensitivity.
Juvéderm Volift® combines a specially
formulated type of hyaluronic acid that
exists naturally in your skin. It’s a natural,
biodegradable gel that flows easily and
smoothly into your skin, instantly filling out
lines and wrinkles. Juvéderm Volift® leaves a
smooth and natural look and feel to your skin
and can last up to eighteen months.
®
It works in a number of ways to
give natural, beautiful, long-lasting results. It
also includes a local anaesthetic for added
comfort during treatment.

effective, long lasting results.

long lasting. This filler is specific to the lips
and mouth area and can be injected using
tiny needles which vastly reduces bruising
and swelling. Juvéderm Volbella® delivers a
smooth, natural looking result and can last up
to twelve months.

facial volume for a full smooth, youthful
appearance. Used to create higher

Dermaroller
Neostrata® Skin Peels
The Dermaroller is an incredible device which
naturally increases the levels of collagen
and elastin in your skin. The roller includes
tiny needles, which put thousands of little
openings in the upper layer of the skin.
This stimulates a wound healing process,
which in turn stimulates collagen and elastin
production - building healthy skin cells, filling
in depressed scars and deep lines. After
treatment with the roller, your skin is ready to
fully absorb powerful anti-ageing creams.
NeoStrata skin peels involves the application
of a chemical solution to the skin in order
to induce a controlled deep exfoliation
and rejuvenation of the skin, improving its
appearance. Skin will look brighter, fresher
and more radiant.
Dermaroller treatment can help remove
wrinkles, stretch marks, cellulite, acne scars,
surgical scars and uneven, pitted skin. These
conditions are all due to a lack of collagen –
using a Dermaroller to replace the collagen
can help your skin renew itself.
• Pigmentation, sunspots and
hyperpigmentation
The NeoStrata® range of professional
intensive peels are suitable for a variety
of skin types and skin conditions:
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Matt and dull complexion
• Loss of skin tone
• Acne and acne scarring
• Large or open pores
To get the maximum benefit from your skin
peel, NeoStrata® have developed a special
range of pre and post peel products. These
help to condition your skin prior to the
treatment and help it to recover and get the
maximum benefit afterwards. The products
are specially designed to work with the
professional peels and enhance the results.

Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic dentistry is one of the fastest growing areas in health
and beauty today as treatments become more affordable and
accessible. A smile plays such an important part in people’s
lives. It’s the first thing most people see when they look at you
and for this reason many people can feel self conscious about
their teeth. Many of our patients report that they look and feel
years younger after cosmetic dentistry to improve their smile.
The Hospital Group offers cosmetic
dentistry in purpose-built, state-of-the-art
facilities. We have specialist clinics in London,
Leeds, Birmingham and Newcastle. All
procedures are performed by dedicated
cosmetic dentists.
Cosmetic dentistry
consultation
Cosmetic Dentistry requirements tend to be
quite unique and The Hospital Group offers
a consultation to all patients.
Consultations include (as required):
• Dental examination
• Smile consultation by cosmetic dentist
• X-Ray and/or Impressions if required
• Individual cosmetic dentistry treatment

Professional teeth whitening
A fresh, white smile makes a huge difference
to your overall appearance. Professional
teeth whitening at The Hospital Group is an
extremely popular procedure carried out by
cosmetic dentists.
The procedure involves lightening the
colour of the teeth to achieve a brighter
look without harming the original tooth
structure in any way and is ideal for:
• Reducing stains to give you a whiter smile
• A fresher look to your teeth without
damaging tooth structure
Professional teeth whitening can be used
alone or to complement other treatments
e.g. invisible braces or alongside veneers
within a total “smile makeover”.
The Hospital Group offers both professional
whitening in our specially equipped
Cosmetic Dentistry Suites and courses
of home whitening with tailor-made
whitening trays.

“Pain-free” Dental veneers
Invisible braces
The Hospital Group offers exclusive
“pain-free” veneers. These are
custom-made using strong, thin porcelain
to fit over your existing teeth. Unlike
traditional veneers, there is no grinding
down of your own teeth, so results are fast,
effective and relatively pain-free without
damaging your existing tooth structure.
Invisible braces are clear and virtually
undetectable to the naked eye. Compared to
traditional braces, they are also much more
comfortable to wear and cause less irritation
Porcelain veneers are ideal for
correcting a wide variety of unsightly and
unhealthy dental conditions, including:
• Chipped or cracked teeth
• Misshapen, rotated or misaligned teeth
• Stained or discoloured teeth
As they are custom made for you, the
veneers are available in a variety of shades
of white to give you the smile you want.
Cosmetic dentists can also use the veneers
to deliver a perfect smile you
may not have thought possible.
An invisible braces programme involves
a series of clear aligners which are custommoulded to fit you. These gradually reposition
your teeth into a lovely straight smile, gently
realigning misaligned teeth and/or correcting
awkward “bite”. They are removable for
eating, drinking, brushing and flossing.
After taking impressions, skilled specialists
will calculate a programme to deliver
your straight smile. You will even see a
picture or video of the “before and after
results” to help you decide whether or
not the treatment is right for you.
The results are stunning and surprisingly
quick and painless. The programme
will normally last for 6, 12 or 18 months
depending on your dental requirements.

PATIENT STORY
Marvin Humes
The treatment is going really well so far and I’m
already noticing a big difference in my teeth…thanks to
The Hospital Group.
JLS Band Member,
Marvin chose The Hospital
Group for his Cosmetic
Dental Treatment
Marvin Humes, makes up one quarter of the
UK’s most sought after boy band, JLS, and
we are very pleased to say he is now one of
our cosmetic dentistry patients.
Marvin wanted straighter teeth and generally
wanted to improve the appearance of his
smile so we recommended our popular clear
brace treatment. He already had good teeth
so just needed the help of our cosmetic
dentist and invisible braces to adjust the
alignment of his teeth for a straighter and
smoother look. Marvin’s career as a pop
star means that his teeth are constantly in
the spotlight during performances, so he
decided to go ahead with the treatment to
feel entirely confident with his appearance.
After his course of clear braces, which
will last approximately 12 months,
Marvin will then have teeth whitening
to complete his treatment.

Cosmetic Dentistry
Dental implants
Titanium dental implants are the best option
for fixing crowns, bridges and dentures
in order to fill unsightly gaps and replace
missing teeth permanently, eliminating the
need for removable dentures.
The Hospital Group uses titanium implants,
which offer extraordinary strength, as the
bone can grow directly around the titanium to
create a new tooth root and make a strong
foundation for crowns that will then feel and
function like a natural tooth.
It takes around 30 minutes to fit a titanium
implant into the gum using a local
anaesthetic. After the implant is in place,
crowns, bridges or dentures can then be
permanently secured to them.
Porcelain crowns
Crowns are used for a number of
purposes, including:
• Cover damaged or unattractive teeth
• Support a large filling where there isn’t
enough tooth remaining
• Attach a bridge
• Protect weak teeth
• To restore an attractive smile
• Replace missing teeth. “Bridges”
can be used to fill larger gaps
66
Cosmetic dentistry
Crowns can be fitted over existing teeth
provided the root is healthy. If not, then
they can be fixed with an implant.
The Hospital Group uses porcelain crowns,
which blend in with your own teeth and
do not leave a black line at the gum like
conventional crowns, thereby giving a more
attractive and natural smile. The porcelain
used is the same as that used for porcelain
veneers which is very strong and durable and
gives an excellent appearance.
White fillings
Unfortunately, most people need fillings –
research shows that the average British adult
has 7 fillings.
Even with straight white teeth, catching a
glimpse of a traditional silver filling can be
unappealing and spoil the smile.
White fillings offer a natural-looking alternative
and can’t be seen when you laugh or smile
as they blend in with your natural teeth.
In addition, white fillings can “stick” to the
teeth, which means that they can also be
used to repair teeth that have been chipped,
broken or decayed.

Before
“
Kelly is a previous breast
enlargement patient and she returned to
The Hospital Group to improve her smile.
She runs her own photography business
so is often faced with beautiful, bright
white smiles and wanted to have one of
her own. Her treatment plan consisted
of 8 upper veneers and she had teeth
whitening on her lower set of teeth to
match. Kelly was thrilled with her results
and has since referred many of her clients
to The Hospital Group!
“
Mr Richard Malloch - Cosmetic Dentist
“Kelly was unhappy with her top layer of teeth. It prevented her
from smiling as she wanted to keep them hidden. In particular,
she was bothered by her right canine. We therefore advised 8
upper veneers, and teeth whitening on her lower set of teeth. We
evened up the appearance of her teeth and improved the shape.”

Weight Loss
Surgery
As UK leaders in weight loss surgery, The Hospital Group offers
a number of solutions to suit various weight loss requirements.
Gastric band
Gastric balloon
The gastric band, also known as the
“Lap Band” is probably the best known
surgical solution to achieving significant
yet sustainable weight loss. It works by
decreasing the size of your stomach, so that
you feel full sooner and for longer, thereby
eating less and losing weight.
The gastric balloon is a short-term, nonsurgical weight loss programme, enabling
patients to achieve average weight loss of
2-3 stone in 6 months.
The benefits of the procedure are:
• Excellent results: on average 50-60%
of excess weight is lost in the first 2 years.
Some patients have lost up to 87% of
excess weight
• The Hospital Group has helped many
patients lose as much as 10 stone or
more and 99% of our patients lose weight
• Recommended for overweight or obese
patients whose BMI is 35 or over
• Surgery does not affect patients’ digestion
• The band can be adjusted to control your
weight over your lifetime and is ultimately
reversible
• Keyhole (laparoscopic) procedure with
quick recovery rates
It is a clinically proven way to reduce hunger,
so that you eat less and lose weight without
the need for surgery.
We call it an “accelerated weight loss”
programme as patients can kick-start their
weight loss and set the patterns for sensible
eating and activity to enable them to sustain
it over time.
Gastric bypass
The gastric bypass is a form of weight loss
surgery suited to those that are clinically
obese with significant amounts of weight to
lose. It is a more extensive surgical procedure
than the gastric band procedure.
For the seriously obese, the benefits of
the procedure are truly life-changing:
• 75% of patients lose 75-80% of
excess body weight, most in the
first 2 years
• Most type II diabetics will be cured

Shameless Actress Tina Malone is just 5’ 1”,
but after years of excess eating, reached 19st 2lbs
and was classified as morbidly obese. “I have more
energy and feel better in every way. I love my gastric
band – she’s my new best friend!
“
PATIENT STORY
Tina Malone
• Major improvements in other weight
associated conditions, including sleep
apnoea, asthma, joint pain, arthritis, reflux,
fatigue, shortness of breath
• Major improvements in risk factors for
heart disease and cancer
• 70-80% of patients with
hypertension will be off medication
• Cholesterol levels will fall
• Patients report less depression,
improved self-esteem and confidence
This option is generally recommended for
those with a higher BMI of 40+.
Gastric bypass procedures are carried out in
a fully equipped bariatric surgery facility under
general anaesthetic and you would normally
expect to spend 2-3 nights in hospital before
returning home.
Gastric sleeve
The gastric sleeve, also known as the “sleeve
gastrectomy” is a surgical stomach reduction
procedure. As such, it is a longer and more
complicated procedure than the gastric band,
but is less drastic than the gastric bypass.
