THE WHITGIFT FOUNDATION Undiscovered Croydon 18-26 JUNE 2016 FESTIVAL GUIDE croydonheritagefestival.co.uk ABOUT THE FESTIVAL ABOUT FOUNDATIO FOUNDATION Since 1596, the Whitgift Foundation has been providing care and education in Croydon. We are delighted once again to present Croydon Heritage Festival, now in its fourth year. The festival is a vibrant reminder of the fascinating and kaleidoscopic history of Croydon. It is a celebration of our shared history and social memory, offering inspiring ways to learn more about it. The festival also provides a platform for our communities to present Croydon’s today and what tomorrow may bring, which is timely while we are on the verge of so many changes to our town. We are passionate about Croydon. Founded in 1596 by Archbishop John Whitgift, with a charitable commitment to provide education for the young and care for the elderly, in the Borough of Croydon. • We educate more than 3,000 students in our three outstanding independent schools: Whitgift, Trinity and Old Palace. At present over 44% of our students receive financial support towards school fees through our bursary support scheme; one of the largest in the country totalling in excess of £5 million a year. • We are home to more than 100 older residents of Croydon. Our three homes: The Whitgift Almshouses, Whitgift House and Wilhelmina House, are happy, thriving and secure communities. Staff are on hand 24 hours a day to meet residents’ needs, whether it is a full programme of activities, a friendly chat or just a cup of tea. • We support the estimated 34,000 carers in the borough with invaluable and impartial information, support and training at our Carers Support Centre in George Street run by our Carer’s Information Service. We rely on income from our investment property portfolio in and around Croydon to continue to support our charitable commitment to the people of Croydon. Part of realising our promise is evident in our work with Croydon Partnership to bring sustainable and positive change to Croydon’s town centre with the redevelopment of the Whitgift Centre.
