OVERVIEW
HOTEL
Switchfly’s travel commerce platform powers online travel
agencies, vacation package sites, and travel booking tabs.
Any company can use Switchfly to launch a website with
functionality as robust as any OTA by including flights,
hotels, car rentals, insurance, and activities.
The Switchfly hotel platform gives you instant access to
over 200,000 hotels worldwide.
With Switchfly, you have the ability to choose whether to
offer customers select standalone products or complete
vacation packages. Designed to give you complete control
over business rules and inventory, our platform can be enabled for any of our products, all of which are supported
by our segmentation and pricing rules.
Travel commerce platforms allow your customers to book
any combination of travel products in any point of sale.
Switchfly offers extensive features that not only provide
access to the right travel products, but surround those
products with all the information your customers need to
make a purchasing decision, now. It also gives consumers
the travel website they’ve always wanted: one that makes
it fast and easy to book travel.
Note: This guide discusses all of the Switchfly’s Travel
product features. We recommend you start by reading our
Platform Guide first, as it covers features common to each
of our products.
MULTIPLE SUPPLIERS
for same hotel
Switchfly has developed a vast, integrated network of hotels, which allows clients to select from multiple inventory
sources. Inventory providers compete for your customers’
business in real time offering your customers the lowest
rates on every customer search. Our hotel network incorporates most OTAs, as well as local wholesalers, to make
sure you have access to both low rates and broad coverage. In addition to our network of hotel providers, Switchfly offers tools that enable clients to manage pre-negotiated contracts from their current hotel partnerships.
Multi-Source Inventory
Our platform allows clients to leverage better availability and pricing through multiple hotel supplier sources.
Switchfly employs proprietary ‘Unification’ technology to
identify matching properties from multiple suppliers. The
unification matching process allows Switchfly to receive
inventory from multiple suppliers and only display a single
record to the end customer.
With more than 1.2 million hotels in our database, we provide you the best inventory coverage offered at the lowest
rates. Unification technology puts the power in your

customers’ hands by compelling suppliers to compete for
their business. Unification technology also provides clients
the ability to compare pricing across suppliers and create
real-time price savings messages. Through unification,
clients can define business rule options for determining
which sources to display to the customer. The following
unification options are available:
• LOWEST COST (RECOMMENDED)—presents offer from
the suppler with the lowest end consumer price (post
markup and commission) for each unique property.
Note: the Lowest Cost configuration can also be used
with supplier preferencing thresholds.
• ALL—presents all offers, including duplicate prices for
the same property.
Search
Our platform allows clients to use a free form text search
box or to use our ‘smart’ auto-complete functionality. The
auto-complete functionality allows users to start typing
a destination and we will display the search results that
match what the customer has typed. In addition it logs all
customer searches on your site and prioritizes the city list
results based on most frequent searches.
• SUPPLIER PREFERENCE—presents inventory from a
chosen supplier when available, and backfills all remaining inventory with other suppliers.
Another search option is the ability to retain previous customer searches. So when an end user returns to your Switchfly
site, they will see their previous searches.

Suppliers
For our Hotel partners, Switchfly has the ability to code to your hotel API, allowing access to all of your inventory and
rates. For our non-hotel partners, Switchfly actively maintains API connections to most major wholesalers and OTAs.
Through unification, our clients gain instant access to rock-bottom wholesaler rates as well as the breadth offered by
OTAs.

Hotel Builder
The Hotel Builder feature supports a seamless integration between your pre-negotiated hotel contracts and
the many inventory sources available via the Switchfly
network. Clients can elect to incorporate their pre-negotiated hotel rates into a real-time pricing comparison, or
can elect to always honor their pre-negotiated rates and
offer the additional sources as backfill. Incorporating your
current hotel contracts into our platform allows you to
utilize all Switchfly tools including packaging, segmenting,
and cross-sell to help you grow hotel partnerships.
Our Hotel Builder allows a client to manage their inventory
through:
• HOTEL EXTRANET—Clients can provide their hotel
suppliers access to a hotel extranet to load rates and
inventory. The extranet reduces our clients’ operational
overhead of loading rates and allotments by providing
each individual (or group) tools to manage their own
rates and inventory. Each extranet is protected by a
username and password, ensuring suppliers have access
only to their properties and their data remains secure.
• CONTENT MANAGEMENT—Clients can enhance their internal inventory by adding premium hotel content from
our third-party providers. Alternatively, they may choose
to add their own custom content though our content
management system. Our content management system
is an easy-to-use tool that allows clients to add Images,
Descriptions, Amenities, Star Ratings, Restaurants, and
an abundance of other features.
• ROOM TYPES—The Hotel Builder allows clients to price
and allocate inventory to an unlimited number of room
types.
• RATE BUILDER—The Switchfly rate builder allows
clients to easily update hotel rates over large spans of
times (seasonally) or on a daily basis.
• BLACKOUT CALENDAR—Using our blackout calendar,
clients can easily override hotel allotments during soldout dates.
Update 'Hotel Builder' via API
Clients have the ability to update their internal API through
the Switchfly admin tool or through the API.
Clients can update the following hotel information via the
API:
• SUPPLIER ROOM TYPE RULES - Updates the hotel and
rooms types with additional / up sell amounts (Number
of allowable additional guests as well as the additional
charge for extra guests.
• SUPPLIER ROOM CONTRACT CANCELLATION
POLICIES - Updates the hotel with the appropriate
cancellation policies.
• LOAD SUPPLIER ALLOTMENTS JOB - Updates the hotel
with the appropriate hotel allotment.
• LOAD SUPPLIER CONTRACT RATES JOB - Updates the
rates for a specific hotel property over a specified time
period.
Clients may also view information about the internal hotels
via the API. The following list requests are available:
• SUPPLIER LIST - Returns a list of all active suppliers on
a specific cobrand
• SUPPLIER ALLOTMENTS LIST - Returns a list of
number of rooms available, for a date rate, for a specific
property.
• SUPPLIER CONTRACT RATES LIST - Returns a list of
rates for a specific supplier over a set of dates.
Pricing
One of the most valuable parts of our platform is the a
bility to manage the price displayed to the consumer.
Clients have the ability price by product, destination,
dates, supplier, and a host of other options.
Switchfly also offers an advanced automated revenue
management system for our hotel product. The automated
system can be configured according to client objectives
and is supported with hotel standalone and any package
containing a hotel. These tools that can be configured to:
1. MAXIMIZE PROFITABILITY (PROFIT/SEARCH)
2. MAXIMIZE VOLUME (LOOK TO BOOK)
3. MAXIMIZE MARGIN (PROFIT/BOOKING)
For more information on our other pricing tools, please
visit the pricing section in our All Systems Guide.

Hotel Results
Displaying the right hotel options in the optimal sort order
is essential to obtaining high conversion rates. Switchfly
offers the following default hotel sorts:
• HOTEL CHOICE MODEL—Years of industry experience
have allowed us to develop this functionality, which uses
over 20 unique variables to predict how customers make
tradeoffs between different product displays. Our Hotel
Choice Model is developed to simulate the decision process, and make those hotels most likely to be purchased
appear to the customer on the first page of results. The
outcome is higher conversion rates and greater margins
for our clients. The Hotel Choice Model is constantly
maintained on your site and results are monitored and
adjusted through sophisticated A/B testing:
Additional Options
While the Hotel Choice Model is the preferred client sort
option, Switchfly offers additional default sort displays.
Clients may choose to use any of the following:
P8
© 2016 SWITCHFLY
• COMPOSITE SORT—Similar to the Hotel Choice Model
except clients can define the weight of the individual
attributes.
• CONNECTOR PREFERENCE—Always shows client’s preferred supplier first, followed by any additional suppliers.
• PACKAGE SAVINGS AMOUNT—Show hotels with the
largest dollar value in package savings, in descending
order.
• PACKAGE SAVINGS PERCENT—Show hotels with the
largest percentage package savings, in descending
order.
• PRICE—Lowest price to highest, or highest to lowest.
• RATING—Highest to lowest star rating.
• STRIKETHROUGH PRICE—Shows hotels with the
largest strikethrough price, in descending order.
• NAME—Results displayed in alphabetical order.
Multiple Room Bookings
When booking multiple rooms, customers are able to purchase different room types within the same hotel property. Customers have the ability to specify the number of guests per room, and can purchase different room types according to each
room’s number of occupants. By default, the cheapest room type will be selected based on occupancy per room. Below is
an example of a the user experience while booking multiple rooms as the Venetian, customers can upgrade their room type
by clicking the link below: After selecting to view additional room types, a complete list will expand allowing the users to

Hotel Features
The following features are available with Switchfly’s Hotels platform:
SYSTEM UNIFICATION INDIFFERENCE AMOUNT. In order to provide clients ultimate control over their inventory, Switchfly
created a supplier indifference amount. The indifference amount allows you to sell specific inventory sources as long as they
fall within certain per-night dollar-amount thresholds. For example, you can configure to always sell supplier A, so long as the
price is within $5 per night of all other suppliers.
DISPLAY HOTEL TAX PRICE ON AVAILABILITY. For suppliers where taxes are returned separate from the net rate,
Switchfly has the ability to configure if taxes will be included in the hotel rate and displayed in the initial availability screen.
Any hotel that does not include taxes displays a link where customers can find tax information, as shown below.
Once the link is clicked, the customer is shown a tax-free amount, tax total, and the total amount including tax:.
HOTEL PRICE VARIANCE. On occasion, the price for hotel inventory changes between the initial availability call and the time
of booking. Switchfly has the ability to set thresholds that allow clients to control the customer experience during these price
fluctuations, as follows:
Any time the price decreases, Switchfly allows the customer to complete the booking at the original price and the extra
money is given to the client in the form of additional markup. In scenarios where the price increases, clients can set a
per-night threshold to allow the customer to complete a booking at the original quoted price. If the amount of price increase
exceeds the per-night threshold set above, Switchfly messages the customer, making them acknowledge the price increase
before continuing:

Hotel Details
Hotel details provide customers with additional information about the hotel properties. Switchfly customers can choose
between two different hotel details displays: clients can choose between a ‘pop-up’ hotel details screen and an Ajax hotel
details page, which renders within the calling page. Note that Ajax details screens are built in a Freemarker template, which
allows for a high level of customization per client.

Hotel Promotions
Hotel promotions provide added value to the customer,
offering significant price savings as well as hotel perks and
upgrades to your customers, all to ensure they get the top
value for their dollar. Promotion types include:
• Promotional Pricing Offers
• Added Values
• Sort Overrides
• Client-Approved Hotels
PROMOTIONAL PRICING OFFERS—Relevant promotional messaging is available once the customer is in a hotel
or hotel packaging path. A ‘promotional pricing offer’ is
anything that directly impacts
the price to the end consumer. Switchfly works with providers to offer three different types of promotions:
• Percent discount—for example, 20% off
• Amount discount—for example, $100 off
• Pay/Stay—for example, Pay for 3 nights, Stay for 4
• User Reviews
• Virtual Tours
• Maps Tool

P11
Switchfly calculates the pre-discounted price, then ‘strikes through’ that price to deliver a powerful marketing message:
ADDED VALUES—Any sort of a promotion that does not directly impact the price to the end consumer is considered an
‘added value’. An added value is any sort of free breakfast, casino credits, spa treatments, or anything else that comes free
with the hotel reservation. Switchfly works with hotel providers to create these value-adds, then makes these promotions
available to the customer.
SORT OVERRIDES—Switchfly allows clients to place two to three hotels per destination at the very top of the sort order.
This allows clients to promote individual hotels by guaranteeing suppliers that their hotel will be seen first on every search!
P12
© 2016 SWITCHFLY
CLIENT-APPROVED HOTELS—Provides visual appeal for preferred partner properties. Clients can highlight individual properties or entire brands allowing you to improve partnerships.
Switchfly offers powerful booking information to customers to help them make their purchase decision. If activated, a UI
overlay will display transiently describing up to two different things about a hotel's booking activity:
1) This hotel was last booked X hours and Y minutes ago from <city>,<state> <country>
2) This hotel has been booked Z times in the last 48 hours

P13
USER REVIEWS—Switchfly maintains an integration to the TripAdvisor API, which provide customers with valuable, up-todate User Generated Content (UGC). The UGC provides customers with an overall hotel score (scale of 0-5), as well as the
most recent user reviews. While our current user review source is TripAdvisor, our framework is built to support any thirdparty UGC. Switchfly provides the ability to use any of these premium content sources with any of our providers, as well as
with your direct hotel contracts.
VIRTUAL TOURS—Switchfly works with VFM Leonardo to provide
premium hotel images and virtual tours. Switchfly enables the client
to use any of these premium content sources with any of our providers, as well as with your direct hotel contracts.

MAPS TOOL—Switchfly has included a Bing
maps tool that plots all the search result properties on an interactive map, providing users a
visual representation of hotels locations.
MINI MAP—Customers can also interact with the ‘Mini map’ to search
for any specific location or points of interest.
Then Switchfly plots the desired location and re-sorts the hotels
based on proximity to the destination. This feature provides agents
with all the tools they need to find the location their customer is
looking for, the closest hotels, and distance from that location.

P15
FILTERS
City filters are also displayed on the availability screen. Many times,
customers prefer to stay in surrounding cities or suburbs. The city
filter allows customers to select the exact city, nearby to their
original search result, where they would like to stay.
MAPFLUENCE provides Switchfly with neighborhood data of over
10,000 neighborhoods in over 400 cities. Mapfluence is continually
expanding neighborhood data worldwide and Switchfly’s API integration allows frequent updates to include new neighborhoods. The
neighborhood filters allow customers to view their results in a more
granular location, in contrast to viewing the results of an entire city.
PRICE RANGE SLIDER—The price slider allows customers to filter
hotels outside of their desired price range.
DEFAULT STAR RATING FILTER RANGE—Clients can set a minimum star rating for hotels selected to appear in availability. Hotels
below this minimum star rating will not appear in results presented
to customers.

Switchfly offers many different marketing tools to help drive traffic

Hotel Landing Pages

HOTEL LANDING PAGES
Switchfly deep-linking landing pages can be created to promote individual hotel properties. The pages provide detailed hotel
information about a particular property. Clients also have the ability to add custom promotional text as well as optimize these
pages for SEO. All pages have a search widget that entices the customer to conduct a search for their specific dates. All landing pages have the ability to show price as a total or nightly rate.
Hotel landing pages are the first of three types of deep-linking promotional pages:
1. The first promotional page is a hotel landing page:
© 2016 SWITCHFLY
P17
2. The second type of promotional page is a destination landing page. A destination landing page returns every hotel
currently available in a market and provides the customer with lead pricing data. The lead pricing can be customized on
a per client basis, and can be set up for hotel only, and/or a total package price (hotel + air). Similar to the hotel landing
pages, the destination landing pages have room for additional promotional text or images and SEO Meta-tags. Note that
while a destination landing page looks similar to a hotel availability result set, these pages can be deep-linked before we
have the customer’s search data.
P18
© 2016 SWITCHFLY
3. The third type of promotional page is a custom or themed landing page. These custom landing pages can be used to
promote partner properties or promotional offers such as ski destinations, beach destinations, or spring break locations.
Clients have the ability to choose any hotel in their network, located anywhere in the world, and promote the different
properties on a single page. (In other words, these custom landing pages look similar to ones above; however, the properties can be hand-picked by the client.)
© 2016 SWITCHFLY
P19
Any of the three promotions above can be ‘mixed and matched’ to create promotion groups. Promotion groups are marketing tools that allow clients to create marketing themes on their homepage or on their own static landing page. Below is an
example of a promotion group in a single slot with three different offers. The promotion group rotates through each of the
three offers every few seconds:
Promotion groups can also be added in a carousel format. Below is an example of a single promotion group with three individual hotel promotions side by side:
P20
© 2016 SWITCHFLY
Promotion groups can also be added on their own static landing pages. Use them to promote destinations or specific routes.
Clients can even choose to link each destination to a custom landing page which presents the customer with a handpicked
list of properties:
Deals
Switchfly also provides clients with a ‘deals harvester’ to help locate hotels or packages their customers are most likely to
purchase. The deals harvester updates daily with the pricing from the previous day’s search data. Deals take into account
many different factors to help identify inventory that is significantly underpriced. We use factors such as current price versus
average price in comparison to every other hotel in the result set, star rating, bookings, clicks, and most common search
dates to help identify the properties your customer base is most likely to purchase.
© 2016 SWITCHFLY
P21
The marketing doesn’t stop with simply harvesting the deals. Switchfly also offers two ways for clients to use this data.
First, the deals can be incorporated into a deals feed that is updated daily with pricing and properties:
Second, all deals that are available on Switchfly pages are also available via our API. Clients can send simple API requests to
Switchfly and receive back deals data that can be incorporated into any third-party site:

Opaque
CROSS-SELL OPAQUE PROPERTIES ON A
Switchfly has an opaque hotel path that allows clients
to access last-minute, distressed hotel product via our
partnership with Hotwire. Clients can offer opaque hotel
inventory through two implementation strategies:
STANDARD, NON-OPAQUE PATH
1. Cross-sell opaque properties on a standard,
non-opaque path
2.Complete opaque path
The opaque cross-sell path starts with an Opaque Hotel
Promotion, which is set in the standard (non-opaque)
availability path. Clients can configure multiple cross-sell
banners and display an opaque hotel in any availability
path powered by Switchfly. Below is an example of an
opaque hotel promotion offered by Hotwire:
Clients can decide if they would like to offer one or both of
the strategies above. Additional information about each is
below.
After users click on the Opaque Hotel Promotion, they are redirected to a completely opaque path. In that path, all of the
Switchfly hotel cards have been updated to support the opaque framework. Here is an example of an opaque hotel card:
© 2016 SWITCHFLY
P23
Users are provided additional details about where the hotel is located without exposing the actual property. One tool to help
users know what they are booking is neighborhood polygons:
COMPLETE OPAQUE PATH
Clients also have the ability to set up a completely opaque path, starting with the search form and ending when the property
is revealed to the customer. The only difference between the complete opaque hotel path, and the cross-sell opaque above,
is the user entry point. In the example below, the user enters the opaque hotel path directly from the search form, rather than
by clicking on the cross-sell banner. From availability forward, the two implementations are identical:
P24

Hotel API
Switchfly also offers an API for clients who want to give
their customers access to our vast hotel network without
using a Switchfly-hosted page. With a simple city request,
Switchfly returns, via the API, a unified hotel result set
including tools to help you merchandise the properties. The
full API integration takes significantly more client resources. If you are interested in a Switchfly API integration, we
recommend a full consultation with a Switchfly expert.
Additional Configurations
CONNECTOR TIMEOUT ROOM—Another advantage of a
multisource inventory approach is that if one connector
times out, your customer continues to receive other inventory results. Clients can configure how long they would like
to wait per connector for the inventory response.
PARTIAL ROOM STAY—Not all customers need a hotel for
their entire stay. Switchfly provides tools to allow customers to book rooms as part of a package (hotel+air) for only
part of their trip. This can be implemented as an online
tool, or as an agent-only tool.
DRILL INTO HOTEL ON AVAILABILITY—Most online travel
sites list all available hotels on the first availability page,
and then let customers select the property in order to view
available room types. Switchfly offers a configuration to let
clients choose if they want the room types available on the
first page, or force the customer to drill into the hotel. Many
clients configure Switchfly to allow their agents to see the
room types on availability, whereas online customers must
drill into the hotel.
SHOW DAILY ROOM RATES—Switchfly can be configured
to display the rates as a trip total, or break out the rates
into a daily rate calendar.
HOTEL RESULTS PER PAGE—Switchfly allows clients to
determine how many hotel results they would like to display per page.
PREFERRED HOTELS—Knowing your customer base and
looking at past purchase history is key to ensuring customers always have the proper inventory available to them.
Each time a hotel is booked, Switchfly records the transactions and continually updates a client-specific preferred
hotels list.

AIR
Switchfly is your one-stop shop for complete air integrations. With over a dozen connections to current airline
providers, Switchfly can customize your integration based
on your business needs. For our airline partners, Switchfly can connect directly into your reservation system and
access your inventory without the additional GDS fees. Our
agency and non-airline partners instantly gain access to all
major GDSs. Both airlines and agency partners can opt to
use advanced flight shopping tools from ITA Software by
Google with any booking system.
Breadth of Experience
Flight Search and booking is complex. The Switchfly team
has unmatched breadth and depth of experience developing and maintaining integrations to third-party flight shopping and booking systems. From airline reservation system
direct connections to GDS web services to LCC aggregator
systems, Switchfly invests several million dollars a year to
integrate, maintain, upgrade, and regression test more than
twenty Flight API integrations. As this level of ongoing investment is coupled with over 100 man-years of experience
across the Switchfly team, our clients reap the benefits.
Inventory
secure credentials. This means the Switchfly system communicates with your flight shopping and booking partners
exactly the way you do today, and functions differently by
booking channel or point of sale as necessary. This high
degree of configurability allows for rapid implementation,
and last minute switches on the fly.
Markup and Commission Management
One of the most valuable parts of our platform is the ability
to manage the price you display to the consumer. Clients
have the ability to price by product, origin, destination, O
& D pair, dates, fare class, and a host of other options. For
more information on markups and commissions please visit
our Platform Product Guide.
Customer Experience
Switchfly supports two different flight shopping user
interfaces. The first is trip-based shopping, where the departure trip and the arrival trip are combined into a single
customer option. The second integration is leg-based,
where users are able to ‘Mix and Match’ their outbound and
return legs to create a custom itinerary. Both implementations can be utilized on a standalone or packaging path,
priced in either loyalty points or cash.
TRIP-BASED AIR SHOPPING
Air inventory is available through any of the major GDS
APIs that Switchfly maintains (or, for our airline partners,
we have the ability to build a direct connection). Switchfly
replicates our clients’ existing reservation system or GDS
connections by utilizing our ‘Connection Manager’ functionality.
Connection manager allows us to maintain the integrity of
the overall API, while allowing each client to use his own
Trip-based air shopping pairs the departure and arrival
flights into a single offer. This implementation is ideal for
clients who want to offer flights from multiple carriers.
Trip-based shopping allows customers to select their
outbound and return flight from a single fare type, as in the
example below:
Trip-based air shopping is the ideal implementation for agencies and financial service institutions,
as it is the simplest way to get the lowest rates
from multiple suppliers. Below is an example of a
loyalty client utilizing trip-based air shopping via
the Switchfly air matrix:

LEG-BASED AIR SHOPPING
The Switchfly framework also supports leg-based air shopping, which allows customers to ‘Mix and Match’ their air itinerary
by first selecting their outbound flight, and then selecting their return flight. Similar to the trip-based itinerary, leg-based
shopping can be used for standalone trips or packages. With-leg based shopping, users can select different fare classes for
the departure and return flights. This approach is ideal for airline clients who want to offer multiple fare products for each
flight schedule.
Following is an example of a leg-based shopping path where the user first selects the outgoing flight, allowing Switchfly to
update package pricing for all flights, before the user selects the inbound flight on a subsequent screen.

Calendar or flexible-date flight shopping is the new industry standard for airline clients wanting to help their loyalty
program members find flight award inventory on dates with
limited availability. Whether airline or agency-model, if you
are interested in flexible-date shopping, the Switchfly team
has the experience to work consultatively with your search
partners to develop a solution that balances user benefits
and search costs.
The client below is using leg-based pricing implemented
with a shopping calendar. This air-only client has four total
fare types available for each leg. Customers can choose
between the Classic awards, and the Always awards, and
then business class or coach class within each award
type. Classic awards (Clàsico) are traditional fixed mileage
awards where the ticket price is a set mileage amount.
Market based (Siempre) have point requirements calculated dynamically based on the availability and cash price of
tickets. For more information about Core air redemption,
please visit our Loyalty Guide.
Calendar shopping can show availability either as a full
week (+/- 3 days) or expanded to show a full month of
availability (+/- 14 days) The calendar search implementation below also supports dynamic filtering by fare product,
providing the customer more options when his preferred
date or award type are not available. By default, the calendar displays the lowest price available for that specific day.
If the fare class the customer chose is not available for that
day, the calendar automatically displays the next lowest
fare.
© 2016 SWITCHFLY
P27
Here, the user has selected the Siempre product in economy and the calendar displays the points price for the lowest
available revenue fare for each day of the week:
The box will display empty if there is no scheduled service on that day or if the flight is completely sold out. In the example
above, flights on Sunday and Monday are not available, and the only flights available on Wednesday and Saturday are the
“Always” (Siempre) rates, dynamically calculated based on the cash value of the ticket:
Due to the intensive nature of hotel and car availability
requirements, flexible date flight shopping is not available with package searches.

ADDITIONAL CONFIGURATIONS
After choosing the optimal air integration, customers have the ability to further customize their shopping path with any number of Switchfly air configurations. Here are some examples:
For packaging paths, clients can turn on our ‘Auto select cheapest flight’ configuration, which automatically selects the
lowest-price air option and sends the user directly into the hotel path. Users would then have the ability to modify the flight
selected, or continue through booking a package. Please see example below:
Switchfly can display your air results using a number of
different sorting parameters. These parameters can be set
up in a hierarchy for personalization:
•Price
•
•
•
Departure Time
• Travel time
Arrival Time
Stops
The Switchfly framework also maintains a scheduled
change GDS list. This allows clients to update their Switchfly system and communicate if any itinerary changes have
been processed. This is a way to automate and send communication to customers whose flights have had changes.
Finally, Switchfly can customize our clients’ checkout
process to ensure all the proper customer information is
collected. Switchfly configurations can allow our clients to
collect:
•Title
•
Full Name
Traveler Address
• Country of residence
•Gender
• Date of Birth
• form of identification information
•
Bookings
Between the customer clicking the “Buy” button and a
completed booking, Switchfly technology works behind
the scenes to ensure flights are booked exactly the way our
clients need them to be. We can do this because we have
separated the Air API system integrations from client-specific business logic.
For systems used by multiple clients such as Sabre,
Amadeus, or Navitaire Newskies, the Switchfly connector
framework allows Switchfly to centrally maintain API message versions. However, the business logic governing how
and when each message is used can be fully customized to
meet client needs. Examples of this include:
• Legacy pricing logic governing airline award bookings
• Including dynamic flight and hotel package booking
data in an air PNR
• Fully automated ticketing
• PNR custom data formatting for accounting or quality
control functions

CAR
Similar to our air providers, Switchfly has the ability to support car inventory through direct connects or through online
aggregators. If you have a partnership with a car company, Switchfly can connect to their API and use your credentials to
get your previously contracted rates. If you prefer to offer customers a variety of car suppliers, Switchfly can recommend car
aggregators for vendor selection, desired destination coverage, and discounted rates. Car inventory is available for pickup at
nearly any airport location worldwide.
The Car offering is available in three different channels:
• CAR ONLY—Available for cash, points, or points + cash
• PACKAGING—Car can be added to a flight, a hotel, or a hotel + flight
• CROSS-SELL—Clients can choose when, which markets, and how many cars they would like to display to the
customer.
Inventory
Currently, Switchfly offers two different car aggregators as
well as numerous maintained direct connects.
CAR AGGREGATOR—Car aggregators have contracted rates
with an abundance of providers offering different makes and
models from many different providers.

• CARTRAWLER—Their strongest market is in Europe,
Cartrawler offers rental cars in over 30,000 locations
covering 171 different countries. The Switchfly to Cartrawler
API integration is an easy way for clients to quickly add
additional ancillary revenue.
• TOURICO—Their strongest market is in the United States.
Tourico offers significantly discounted rental car inventory.
DIRECT CONNECTS—Switchfly currently has direct API connections to the following car providers. Clients can use these
API integrations to access their own negotiated rates or to
add additional inventory:
Users have the ability to
filter to a specific brand
of car.
• Alamo
• Avis
• Budget
• Dollar
• Hertz
• National
• Thrifty
Pricing
Switchfly has the ability to access your contracted rates from
any car provider, or we can provide you net rates from one
of our suppliers. Clients then have the ability to add markup
to the car product through our revenue management tools
that allow for flat, or percentage markups. Markups can be
applied at different levels for various markets, if desired.
Customer Tools
Customers
can also
filter by

car type
When selecting a car, Switchfly can provide customers additional filters to help them locate the ideal car for their trip.
See example to the right.

The Car Matrix is another feature that can be configured on our Switchfly client sites. The matrix shows the car type, provider,
and price in a simple, easy-to-use matrix that helps customers find the ideal car:

P31
Finally, you can implement a car cross-sell through Switchfly after the customer has selected a flight, or a hotel
+ flight package.
Clients can configure when to display, as well as the number of cars to display:
Any of the three implementations above can be incorporated to source inventory from direct connects, car aggregators, or a
combination of the two.
CONFIGURATIONS
Switchfly users can configure how many cars they would like to display in the result set.
Switchfly also offers customers the ability to select a specific car
type before searching:

ACTIVITY
Switchfly has the ability to offer activities on a standalone
basis, or in a cross-sell after the user has selected any other
product in the Switchfly suite. Activities can be offered
through one of the many Switchfly providers or they can be
‘built’ by the client in our Activity Builder.
Activity Providers
• DISNEY—Switchfly has a connection to the Disney Activity calendar to allow clients to sell Disney Tickets through
their Switchfly activity module. The Disney connection
sends a booking message directly to Disney, allowing
customers to redeem at the Disney Park.
• VIATOR—Clients have the ability to offer Viator activities
through their Switchfly platform. Clients can choose
which markets they would like to offer activities in any of
Viator’s 750 destinations worldwide.
• ACTIVITY BUILDER—Many Switchfly clients have
pre-negotiated deals with activity or transfer providers.
The Activity Builder can be used to ‘build’ activities and
make these available as additional Switchfly products.
The Activity Builder allows clients to set rates, inventory,
and add images as well as descriptive content to each
activity.
• GRAYLINE—Grayline offers over 4,000 activities in more
than 700 destinations.
• TOURICO—Tourico offers significantly discounted NET
rates on all activities.
• LIBERTYGOGO—Anytime users book a LibertyGoGo
hotel they will be offered deeply discounted activities to
be purchased.
• HOTELBEDS—Switchfly offers Hotelbeds transfers for
any Flight + Hotel itinerary. Transfers included shared
ride shuttles as well as private town cars.
Clients can choose from a list of attractions at each destination to make sure their product offerings match the
customer base:

Transfers are also
provided to ensure
your customers
arrive at the
destination safely:
Activity API
Switchfly also offers an API for clients who want to give their customers access without using a Switchfly-hosted page. With
a simple city request, Switchfly return a result set via the API, including tools to help you merchandise the activities. The full
API integration takes significantly more client resources. If you are interested in Switchfly API integration, we recommend a
full consultation with a Switchfly expert.
INSURANCE
Switchfly has the ability to provide customers with insurance before checkout to help protect the costs of their upcoming trip.
Insurance can be offered through one of our current providers:
• AIG
• Allianz (Formally Mondial and World Access)
• RBC
• Travelex
• Insurance builder
Insurance is entirely handled by the issuing company. They will merchant the transaction, fulfill the request, and do any necessary post-booking servicing. Insurance can be offered as opt-in, where the user must check the box to include, or opt-out,
where the user must uncheck the box to decline.

PACKAGE SAVINGS
Switchfly has the ability to create real-time, accurate package-savings messaging to customers. This functionality makes
four separate calls to determine the package savings amount:
STANDALONE
Hotel Only $500
PACKAGES
$400
$800
STANDALONE$1,500
PACKAGES $1,200
SAVINGS $300
Air Only $1000
This value proposition is then added into the hotel card on the front-end. The extremely configurable package savings functionality can be arranged to compare any inventory sources on the Switchfly platform:
AIRLINE CROSS-SELL
Airlines can earn additional revenue by selling any travel product in the Switchfly suite—hotel, car rental, insurance, activities—in the client’s core booking path. Your systems send the relevant data to Switchfly, such as loyalty program level, travel
dates, and airfare class, and Switchfly returns the most appropriate cross-sell offer via our API. You can even integrate hotels
with flights to offer bundled packages that automatically calculate savings over published rates.

Cross-Sell Design
The cross-sell ‘widget’ design is customized on a client-by-client basis. Following are examples of designs that have been
implemented.

Client API Integration
To implement the cross-sell widget, the client must integrate with the Switchfly API. The cross-sell request message requires
that the client send an air itinerary to the Switchfly API. The itinerary is then used by Switchfly to re-price the air as a package
and also to make the necessary hotel availability requests

Confirmation Page Cross-Sell
Switchfly also offers a final hotel cross-sell after a user has completed an Air booking. When the online customer reaches
the confirmation page, Switchfly presents a significantly discounted hotel at a package rate available to that customer for a
limited time.
Customers can select from any of the featured hotels, or view a complete hotel list. After the customer has selected to view
the hotels, he is redirecvto a hotel-only booking path, where he will be able to purchase the discounted hotel.
