Patient Guide
The Imaging Center
inside of the magnetic field is lighted and
vented with fresh air, for your comfort.
You may wear your own
clothes or our hospital
attire. You will be asked
to remove all metallic
objects from your body.
Lockers are available to
secure personal belongings. Just before you
enter the scanning room, a final check
will be made by our technologists to
ensure that you are free of all metal.
Obtaining MRi Results
A registered technologist will help position you comfortably for the part of the
body being scanned. The table itself will
move you, if necessary. All you have to do
is relax and remain as still as possible. You
may even nap. Headphones for music are
available. The scan itself is painless. You
will not feel a thing. You will, however,
hear some clicking, humming or thumping noises during part of the scanning;
these are normal operating sounds. Our
technologists will be able to watch you
through the observation window. You
may remain in reassuring contact by intercom or hand-held emergency button. The
The radiologist, a board certified physician specializing in interpretation, will
analyze your images and report the results
to your doctor. You should contact your
doctor 3-5 days
after the exam
has been completed to learn
these results
and what they
mean to you.
Immediate
results may be
requested by
your physician.

Three or more scans will be taken, totaling
30 to 45 minutes overall, in addition to the
time it takes for paperwork and sedation,
if ordered. Please allow for unforeseen
delays, emergency cases or unplanned
sedation.

b a medical history is extremely important
and must be obtained by our nursing staff
prior to your appointment to ensure safety.
with 5 locations in Madison Heights, Allen
Park, Roseville, Port Huron and Toledo
have been performing high quality MRI
scans since 1989. Our staff is friendly and
very qualified. Our services and care are
everything you would want for yourself,
a friend or family member.
MR uses two natural forces, a magnetic
field and radio waves, together with
computer analysis, to form picture
images of your body’s internal structures.
b You can eat normally, take your medications
as usual and follow your daily routine prior to
"MOST" appointments. However, there are
some studies that require lab work, diet and
special preps before scanning. A nurse will tell
you if you need to follow any of these
guidelines.
"OPen" MRI scanners allow for patients
up to 550 pounds and are very successful
for patients with claustrophobia. The 1.5
to 3.0 Tesla high field strength units have
the latest software, including Breast MRI
Imaging.
Your body is composed of small particles
called atoms. normally the protons inside
the atoms spin randomly. When subjected
to a powerful magnetic field, the protons
line up uniformly, like many little compasses pointing in the same direction.
Bio-Magnetic MRI/MRA Imaging Centers,
We offer sedation for pain management
and claustrophobia.
Call our scheduling department at
888-MRi-tODaY (674-8632), seven (7)
days a week to schedule your appointment.
Verification is made to any and all
insurance companies for coverage and
pre-certification prior to services.
each patient receives a personalized CD
of their study.
MRi sCans aRe saFe
MR scanning is a
totally painless, safe
examination, with no
known side effects.
The procedure produces
detailed images of
what is going on
inside your body,
without x-rays or catheters.
Using a large magnet, radio waves and a
computer, it produces 2- or 3-dimensional
images. These images will help your doctor
diagnose a variety of conditions quickly and
accurately, with great clarity. MR scans are
performed to investigate certain suspected
conditions of
soft tissues of
the brain and
spinal cord,
shoulders,
knees
and
abdomen as
well as other
parts of the
body.
During an MR scan, radio waves are
signaled into the magnetic field and
tip the protons out of alignment. When
the radio waves are turned off, the
protons return to their aligned positions.
They also convert energy from low level
to high level creating “resonance”. A
receiver measures the energy released
and the time it takes the protons to return
to their original position. These
measurements provide important
information about the area being
studied.
In addition to helping diagnose disease,
MR can be used to study the behavior of
the cells within the brain and how they
react to disease and treatment. MRI is
especially effective in early detection, and
thus earlier treatment.
b Bring your doctor’s prescription, insurance
card(s) and any previous film(s) or CD(s) of
the area to be scanned with you to your
appointment.
b Arrive 15 minutes early to complete
paperwork and if you require sedation, arrive 30
minutes early, and be accompanied by a driver
who can remain on site during your scan.
b Wear comfortable, loose clothing or
patient gowns will be provided.
b Remove all metal or metallic objects from
your body before scanning, such as jewelry,
watches, keys or credit cards. These may cause
distortion or be damaged by the magnet.
Personal belongings may be secured in our
lockers.
b Remove dentures or bridges. These may
also cause distortion. Personal denture cups are
provided.
b Tell the technologist or nurse if you have
permanent eyeliner, a hearing aid, cardiac
pacemaker, artificial limb, implant or prosthetic
device. Also tell us if you are pregnant or have
had brain, eye, ear or other surgeries.
b It is extremely important that you inform
the technologist or nurse of any possible
metallic fragments in your eyes or body, such
as shrapnel. You will be screened for metal
before scanning.
b Ask questions. If anything is unclear prior
to scanning or at any time, your doctor or our
staff will be happy to discuss it with you. It
could be important.
