A letter from the President
Hi Again!
It was great to see all of you again at our first
race of the season. I hope you all had as much fun as
I did. Saturday was very interesting, between the split
up track and running on 10 year old tires, it made for a
different but very fun day. I could not keep the Miata
straight to save my life. Thank you Doug for changing
the tires for Sunday. If you have already read the
article on the website, I would like to state that Doug
Pulver only beat me by LESS than 3 seconds on
Sunday. We had a ton of people who came to play
with us so we didn’t get many runs but it was a blast
never the less.
Our next event is February 24th & 25th, same
times, same place, same batt channel. Since we are
starting an hour later that puts our finishing time an
hour later as well and then if we have a lot of people
then that will also change, so please plan accordingly.
Our next chairman’s are….. Doug Batt and David
Price. What a surprise you say. These two men are
willing to do anything to help just so all of us can race
early in the season, so my thanks go out to you both.
Our sponsor will be Batt’s Tip Top Service down
in the Santa Rosa area. Doug Batt is the owner and
tree master so make sure that you thank him for his
sponsorship. Especially since this is already the second
weekend that his company has sponsored. Yahoo to
Doug Batt!!!
I am not sure what we are having for lunch on
that weekend but we will post it on the website if your
interested.
Well, dang it, I have to go to work now. Take
care and I look forward to seeing you again. See you
at breakfast.

Rain out Weekend
Can you believe it!
I counted 37 drivers on Saturday and 45 drivers on
Sunday. It was great to see the young and old alike.
Some former club members from thirty, forty years ago
Louise and Harry Pulver, Doug’s mom and dad and Rene
Vit were a joy to talk to. Rene drove the course in his
son’s Z car. Another senior, Jim Meade drove the
course in his 78 Bug convertable.
There was a good assortment of vehicles in
competition. Chev had a Camaro and Nova. Ford, had a
couple of Mustangs and a ZX2. Three BMW’s, a 735, a
325 and George’s X5. oops Zhao’s X5. Loren’s MGB.
two Toyota’s, assorted Madza’s with 12 drivers, and
five Honda’s, and Porche’s and Subarooo’s, oh my.
E ven a Mini Cooper, a VW Bug, a Kart, and 5 Nissans.
That’s a lot of ZZZZZZZZZZZ”s. a total of eight
drivers in the Nissans.
A big thank you for all those that helped set up
and tear down. A lot of drivers left early Sunday but
the tear down went pretty fast. Thank you again to
Caleb, Oliver, Forrest, Randy, Caleb, Kevin, Jeff, Mike
and Valerie, Eric and Rachel, Bill, Anthony, Tina, Dave
and Dave, Dan and Dan, Michael, Loren, Brett, Aaron,
George, Mike, Ian, Doug, Don and Mark for helping with
the set up and tear down. Without course workers and
timers and setup crew the races would not happen.
Tina fetched the Tamales on Sunday also. Good job
everyone
A couple of people that could not cone that
were missed were Marsa and Melonie. I am wishing
them well soon, and look forward to seeing them in
February. I hope the courses were challenging and not
too confusing. The old street issue tires were a
frustration to me while trying to adjust to some new
improvements to the red car. Darn car would not go
straight with the go pedal all the way down.
It was good to see new faces and new cars. A
new Kart driver, Kip Barrett also did a good job on the
course. Doug Pulver cleared the clocks fastest in his
Yellow Streak with Tina close in the Red car. Dave has
his parts for the White car and vows to catch them
next month. Hopefully the weather will hold on race
weekends the rest of the year. I could have used some
earmuffs when there was a little breeze or when Doug
went by. His hand built Yellow car is awesome fast.
What did you think about the two course day
on Saturday? What did you think about the numbered
cones on the curves on Sunday? Let someone know,
Our Emails are on the web page. RSCC.net. Doug is
making it more interesting all the time, with more
pictures and videos. An easy site to check the
weather also. I bet he will have the race results up
before they get to you in the news letter. Yep, I
looked there they are.
Dave Price is doing the news letter and it is a
lot of work. Thank you Dave, Mike and all the other
past editors for your hard work to keep us in contact
with the club. Everyone send in articles to Dave so we
don’t have to hear about his White car anymore. He is
going to have it running by February. The race results
will tell the story. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Can he catch the Red car with a girl driving it? I
just hope to stay close to see the dust fly.
A new twist to “If is ain’t broke don’t fix it.” If
your cars broke bring your wife’s. Heck, bring her too,
if she can stand the company. It is good to see wives,
kids and parents at the track. Significant others, girl
friends, and any other friends, bring them on out. We
enjoy the company and the competition.
Doug Batt
A leditor from the etter!
I hope you all had fun!
Hello all! We had some decent weather, alot of
cars and a whole lot of fun... Well at least I did.
Most of you think that when I design a course
it is designed for my Honda. Well in case you didnot
notice I was driving my Subaru! Actually I design
courses based on what I find the most difficult and
technical. I have found in my years out here that
going easy on the long pedal around corners may
prove to be faster. I tried to balance out the afternoon course for those of you that may have gotten cramps in your foot from trying to refrain from
the long pedal. My thought was you could totally
blow it on one end and make up lots of time at the
other.....
By the way all that think it was still to tight, I
use a 8’ x 12’ utility trailer towed behind my Subaru
Wagon to test the cones. If I can make it through
with that and not upsetting cones it should be wide
enough for autos without trailers. If you would like
to have a hand in setting up the cones this will be
done the day before most of the events. Doug
Batt and I are the Chairpersons for the next event,
and I am setting up Saturday’s cones. If you care
to see me weave through the cones with trailer in
tow please be at the site Friday the 23rd at 4:30.
Hope to see you there,
dp
I finally got my subaru out
to the autocross for the first time after years
of telling Tina I was going to do it. My direction in the tuning of this car
was mostly just to be a decent street car, I bought it a little beat up but
quickly tried different configurations to make more and more power.
Occasionally being raced at the street legal drags has been the only track
time this car has seen before. Fun, but over quickly. I have not had the car
dyno'd so the power is only a guess, in its current tune its making
somewhere between 270-300 whp (wheel horsepower). Its most likely closer to
270 at the wheels, but sometimes my butt dyno says 300, especially (when I
was trying to navigate through cones in first gear). Now that I have
autocrossed I think my power quest has come to an end for this car, after
saturday my wrx was having miata envy with its portly 3000+ pound frame,
thats a big "+" with me in the car. Time to start tweaking it to make it
worthy of its level of modification. My new direction will be as follows,
Anti lift kit with a performance alignment (neutral toe & lots of negative
camber 1.75 deg. front & rear), replace stock sway bar end links with some
from Hotchkis and finally a quick ratio steering rack, the luxury steering
needs to go. Also I never really thought my steering wheel was that big
until autocrossing, having an airbag was nice, but put a steering wheel on
my list. Most of all one of my biggest improvement is going to be learning
how to drive FASTER. I did not do my car justice, it should be ashamed of
me. Just in case anyone is curious whats going on with this hopped up, daily
driven, family sedan here is how it sits right now.
