I’m shocked that April is here already and we’re winding

volunteers, Workampers and club officers that keep our resort ticking! In April we’ll enjoy an Ice Cream Social, Jamaican Night beside the pool, Salad Socials, a Wine &

Chef’s Corner
What an amazing season here at Sunflower! As we
wind down, please keep in mind that we will have many ongoing events in April for those of you remaining here with

Also, our Thursday salad socials will be geng underway shortly. Salads, ice cream, special dinners and other
great events will be a great way to keep in touch with
friends once summer arrives. For those of you leaving for
the summer, thank you, for a great season and we will see
you in the fall with some new menu items and great expectaons for the new season. All of us wish you safe travels to
your next desnaon. Again, I would like to thank the staff
in Food services for an incredible year. The hard work and
many hours certainly showed results this season. All of you
should be proud of a job well done. I look forward to many
of you returning for another year. In addion to new menu
items, we will be working on Tiki specials, special event menus and ways to improve service. Come back ready to indulge!
Many of you have asked what I do during the summer. I focus on wring menus, recipe development, recipe
and product tesng, procuring the highest quality products,
recruing staff, and trying to innovate beer procedures to
handle large groups. I also become involved with any
maintenance or renovaons associated with the food services department. And yes, I do take a few weeks of vacaons too. We do stay busy with those projects. See you all

Sunflower Playhouse Unveils New Cast:
Crazy Title for 2017 Play
Six Sunflower residents have been chosen for roles in the 2017 play titled “Sex Please,
We’re Sixty”. This was following the auditions held on Mar 16th. The cast chosen has a great
combination of acting talents for Season 7 of the Playhouse.
Two “seasoned veterans” return from this year’s production of “Drinking Habits”. They are
Beverly Levine and Les Kennedy. Beverly will shift from being a convent nun to portray a
southern belle staying at a New England bed & breakfast in 2017. Les will change from the
role of convent gardener and part-time priest into a brazen, likeable, next-door neighbor to
the resort.
There are two new resident actresses that will grace the stage next year. Sylvia Veal will
portray the owner of the bed & breakfast and a heart throb for the male neighbor. Newcomer
Lesley Fegan will play a sophisticated guest and a long-time patron of the bed & breakfast.
Returning to the Playhouse stage are 2 veterans who starred in previous productions. Cliff
Oiler, who portrayed the devious IRS agent in 2015’s “Love, Sex and the IRS”, is back as a retired chemist and inventor of a miracle pill. Dottie Alapeck returns after a 5-year hiatus to
play a renowned author visiting the bed & breakfast with a plan to curtail the romantic interests of the gentlemen.
“Sex Please, We’re Sixty” is labeled an American Farce by the author. At the core of this
title, is the untested drug called “Venusia” after Venus the goddess of love. The pill is
suppose to increase the libido of menopausal women. But, as you can guess, things go array
and there are humorous consequences to delight the audience.
The play will be presented next winter in late February or early March. Tickets will go on
sale beginning in Nov in the Activity Office. Buying tickets early is a good suggestion since
all 3 performances of “Drinking Habits” were sold out well before the performance dates this
year.

Important Message from Management:
DO NOT give out the front gate code to ANYONE under any circumstances. It has come to our attention that
some residents are giving out the gate code to vendors and people that are coming to pick them up. We are doing our best to keep your Sunflower community safe and free from theft - please help and support us in this effort. Thank you.
From Guest Services -
What To Do When Departing
If you’re an Annual Resident:
1. Make sure that you come up to Guest Services and notify us of
your departure date. We will adjust any sewer and trashing billing
along with filling out a mail forwarding form for the mailroom and
print forwarding labels for you if needed. There are 30 labels on a
sheet and the cost is $1.00 per sheet.
2. Guest Services has a check list that’s available indicating a park
model owner’s summer responsibilities even after you’ve departed
the resort. Please stop in and pick one up.
If you are an RVer:
1. Make sure you come to Guest Services and return your gate card
and/or mailbox key for your refund.
2. You will need to pay your final electric bill before departing the resort.
3. You can purchase mail forwarding labels if you feel that you may
still have some mail trickle in after you depart. It’s cheap insurance to purchase a sheet of 30 labels for $1.00 to make sure that
you receive any mail that may come. Otherwise, it will be returned
to sender.
4. Lastly, we encourage you to make your reservations for the
2016/2017 season as sites are only available on a first come first
serve basis.

many new people tried pickleball and got hooked. Thanks to
Pat Chapman, Curt Vulgamott and Roger Meekhof for teaching the game to more than 100 residents this winter. Fun Day
was spent playing different games (even with our opposite
hand) and laughing a lot. Elaine MacDonald, Bev Cumbers
and Gloria Packard were the organizers. The annual Sunflower Pickleball Tournament, organized by Pat and Curt, was
very competitive and a lot of fun with four skill groups and a
record 77 players competing. Lunch after both events was
enjoyable as players reminisced about the great skill they
showed. Potluck Sunday lunch brought many members to the
Quail Hollow patio to eat and meet our new members. This
season, we obtained a new pickleball tutor machine, a great
tool for honing our skills. Thanks Cal-Am! We also started
our own Facebook page. Check us out at Facebook.com/
sunflowerpickleballclub. Thanks to Curt, Roger and Karlene
Poor for running the evening round robins and to Dan and

1RWHThe parking spots in front of the dog
park are for golf carts only. Vehicle parking, short
term, is on Lily Lane adjacent to the
Golf Driving Cages.
Pet Owners: Please pick up your pet waste and
dispose of it properly. Please don’t allow your pet
to relieve themselves in other’s yards. We strongly suggest using the dog facilities at the back of
the park rather than the front entrance. If you are
a smoker and are visiting the dog park with your
“four-legged child”, please be courteous and dispose of your cigarettes in the ashtray provided. A
reminder there is a Leash Law in Arizona - your
dog MUST be on a leash at all times; that means
entering and leaving the dog park too. Keep your
dog and other dogs safe by making sure your dog
is leashed at all times, except when playing at the
dog park. For the safety of all, NO unleashed/
loose dogs are allowed in the Resort. If everyone
is courteous and thoughtful, it helps make your
Resort a happier/safer place to be. Please
remember to observe the quiet time of the Resort
between 10pm-7am at the dog park also. Thank
you for your cooperation.
