wood column collection
The wood column collection from Crown Column
features the traditional combination of natural
materials and timeless beauty. Each column is
produced with proportional straight and tapered
shafts creating a balanced architectural entasis.
Entasis, attributed to ancient Greek architecture,
is the slight convex curving of the column shaft
resulting in a most pleasing appearance.
Quality materials, excellent workmanship and
aesthetic appeal make Crown Column products
an exceptional value.

The Colonial wood column is the most popular choice in our stock wood column collection. The Colonial column
is available both plain and fluted and is manufactured with a double bead molding. The Colonial column has a gradual
straight taper.
Typical options for wood columns include: cutting at the bead, cutting to overall length, altering flute length, prime
one coat, prime/sand/prime, application of asphaltum, splitting, and splining for reassembly.
The overall length of wood columns include the standard Tuscan capital, column shaft and Tuscan base and plinth.

C
Crown’s Classic wood column is an upgraded selection to the Colonial style. Available with a plain or fluted shaft,
the Classic column is manufactured with a one-third non-taper, two-third radius taper (correct entasis). The bead
detail is more sophisticated and has an architectural attractiveness.
Every column shaft is made with finger-jointed staves for added strength and stability. The staves are joined using
tongue and groove joints with Type I exterior glue.
The overall length of wood columns include the standard Tuscan capital, column shaft and Tuscan base and plinth.

C
Crown’s wood porch posts add a distinctive touch to any style home. Porch posts are often used as
supporting elements for porches. Combined with balusters, hand and shoe rail, and decorative millwork, porch
posts establish the popular Victorian style.
Crown’s wood porch posts are constructed of select softwoods, laminated and finger-jointed for greater
strength and stability. The wood porch posts are available in a variety of sizes and styles.
Cast aluminum plinths are an available option for providing proper ventilation at the bottom of the post.
Elevating and ventilating the porch post provides protection from moisture absorption.
