You Meet the Nicest People in Sturgis
Imagine enjoying a frosty brew and some
cool tunes on a hot day at the famous Knuckle
Saloon in downtown Sturgis during the big
annual biker's event and meeting the guys who
put it all together at your favorite biker magazine back home. That's what happened to me
and the wife, Amanda, last week.
Motorcycle Rider News Publisher Michael
Clapp and his photographer son Tony had
asked to join us at our shaded table near the
busy dance floor. The temperature easily was
pushing 90 degrees and we were eager to have
some fellow bikers kick back, cool their
dancin' shoes, and share a cold one. Turns out
Tony and Mike were in town for a few days
soaking up the crazy sights and sounds that
make bike week there famous, and taking
some great photographs to boot (check 'em out
at www.motorcycleridernews.com).
Between bites of the awesome Italian
sausage sandwich I was wolfing, I learned that
Mike and Tony too were from Colorado, and
were hooked up with MRN. At first I think
maybe they didn't believe that I was so familiar
with the magazine, read it cover to cover every
chance I get, and consider it one of the best
biker mags out there. Amanda chimed in and
confirmed it all (what a great wife), and before
long we all were talking about some of the
articles and features that have appeared recently, and life in general. It turns out Tony and I
share another common trait (in addition to riding and digging the whole motorcycle scene)
in that we are both lawyers in our other, less
glamorous, lives. He works at a famous firm
in Denver and I have my own shop out of
Boulder and we know some of the same people
in the business. I guess even in Sturgis you
can't swing a dead cat without hitting a lawyer.
Oh well!
We talked and laughed, listened to the band
jammin' some favorite tunes, drained a few,
and then parted ways after exchanging contact

info. I'm looking forward to reading MRN
especially when the weather turns here soon
and we can't get on our bikes as much. It is
great to know the nice folks putting that magazine together are "the real deal" when it comes
to riding and living the lifestyle.
Dave Sanderson Esq., Boulder, Colorado
Dave, it was great meeting and talking with
you and your wife. What a small world especially since you and my son share similiar
occupations.
Kermitts finally has Chili Cheese Fries
Kermitts has finally evolved to another benchmark as a result of our fire. We spent the first
18 days of August rebuilding the kitchen with
a new hood … and ready for this? A NEW
FRYER!!!!! After 5 ½ years of owning
Kermitts … I can finally offer up those famous
Chili Cheese Fries that everyone has been asking for … every day for the past 5 years! We'll
also be adding a ton of new fried items to our
menu i.e. Beer Battered Onion Rings … Fried
Pickles … Homemade Sweet Potato Chips …
Wings … Poppers and much more.
Marco you have done a beautiful job in
your restoration project at Kermitts after the
fire. Cannot wait to try your Homemade
Sweet Potato Chips with a cold beer.
Our apoligies to the Rocky

Re:Conga Riders Kick Cancer to the Curb
August 2011
My girls and I are were part of this gang that
you refer to as being Debi Holmes gang. We
are the Rocky Mountain Asphalt Divas and
would like to be known as that and not part of
the Debi Holm's gang. It would have been
nice to mention us in the article that you printed about the conga ride instead of a gang.
Cheryl McElhenie
Our sincere apologies to the Rocky
Mountain Asphalt Divas as this great group
was a big part of that wonderful day.

AUGUST 21, 2011
Veteran's Rally - Cripple Creek
By Tony Clapp
No matter how you look at it, bikers are
proud Americans and not afraid to show their
patriotism. During the third weekend in
August, more than ten thousand riders converged on the small Colorado mountain town
of Cripple Creek. Once known for mining and
the precious minerals contained in the ground,
the little gambling mountain town west of
Colorado Springs rolls out the red carpet to
honor those who have fought for our freedom
and who continue to fight for those rights that
we hold so near and dear to our hearts. The
freedoms that we enjoy today are due in very
large part to the efforts of our past and present
service men and women.
The highlight of the weekend is the parade
that honors and salutes those courageous soldiers. Bikers gather in Woodland Park,
Colorado for a 26 mile "group" ride. More
than 4000 bikes, riders, and passengers take
part in the parade that ends as riders pass
through downtown Cripple Creek and under an
enormous American flag.
Once the parade ended, the crowd congregated
at the town
gazebo for the
presentation of
the colors, and
processional
attended by the
Kansas Patriot
Guard. The ceremony was
inspirational.
All those in
attendance put aside their political attitudes in
one grand show of respect. This is a rally
event that should not be missed.

Hope on your scoot in Durango and within

the best riding landscapes in the U.S.
Southwest Colorado also gives riders a chance
to enjoy one of 12 national parks, all within a

2nd Annual Bearman Classic
The 2nd Annual Bearman Classic Memorial Run. on Sunday, August
21, was all about remembering a friend, an all-around fun guy in the
biker community who we all knew as Bear, aka Ted Resnick.Bikers
showed up early that day to choose one of Bear's favorite rides, including Peak-to-Peak, and do it their own way. Everyone ended up back at
the Firehouse, around 3pm, to continue the celebration of Bear's life.
More than 300 people showed up to celebrate the Bear, listen to music
by Brian Hornbuckle, and raise a few bucks for Kemp Foundation, an
organization hosting programs to treat abused children. Thanks to
Jimmy and Dave for hosting another great run in memory of Bear!

Disney for Adults:
Newest Orlando Harley-Davidson Store
Compiled by Diana Rowe
Hundreds of thousands of
families will flock to Walt
Disney World to spend the holidays, spring and/or summer
break together. But what about
our needs? Don't we need a
"Disney" biker break of our
own? Enter in Orlando HarleyDavidson's newest store, located at Downtown Disney, an
attraction in itself, familyfriendly and ready to welcome
bikers.
The new store's 3,635 squarefoot-layout and hands-on format encourages customers to
touch the merchandise and sit
on the display bikes. For the first time at a Harley-Davidson® store, visitors can
"ride" a motorcycle in front of a variety of green-screen backgrounds, including
Daytona Beach and Route 66, and take home photos to remember the experience.
Forget about a Disney princess or Toy Store Buzz Lightyear T-shirt -- and how
could you explain THAT to your biker buddies! When it comes to Harley merchandise, the store offers everything from adult shirts and jackets to baby bibs
and dog collars. Personalize your Harley leather vest with a wide array of pins
and patches, including some exclusive to the Orlando. A full-time seamstress
sews purchases while customers wait. The walls are adorned with custom artwork from Orlando artists, Vince Balistreri and Ted Schoonard. The technology,
artwork and hands-on features make this the first store of its kind. The store is
conveniently located in the heart of Downtown Disney, so no one will know that
you're taking a much-needed "adult" break away from the Disney theme parks.

How about free concerts every night on the
Freemont Street Experience?
The riding around the Vegas area is awesome, you can visit Hoover Dam, take a run
through the beautiful Valley of Fire, ride to the
top of Charleston Mountain, for those who are
interested in things "out of this world" the
extraterrestrial highway to the black mail box
of Area 51 (which doesn't exist according to
the government). Of course there is the world
famous Las Vegas Strip where riding under the
lights is an experience that you will tell all of
your friends about.
Las Vegas Bike Fest is one of the best parties
-- I mean -- rallies that I have attended, and
they keep working to make it better.

RIDING BY THE STARS
By Mary O'Gara, Ph.D.
ARIES: Your best ideas (and a lot of
focused effort) pay off handsomely.
There may be personal windfalls and
recognition now, but it's the long-term
money in your pocket that's important.
Take a moonlight ride or join friends
after their day on the bikes, but playing with your own ideas takes top priority now.
TAURUS: Good things just flow to
you this month. You're feeling great
and your love life is glowing. Be
careful not to stir up jealousy at work;
team play is everything right now.
Even if some of your personal goals
seem blocked, the delays are temporary and you'll get your way by fall.
GEMINI: Gemini wants to go shopping. But Mercury's retrograde, and
you may spend more than you want
and get less for it. Tuck your wallet in
a drawer and have friends ride over to
your house for good music and laughter. Or join them for a long ride,
revisiting your favorite places.
CANCER: Peace-loving you has a
temper this month. Important people
MOTORCYCLERIDERNEWS.COM
in your life are growing and changing,
but it only feels as if you're being left
out. Get a mixed, congenial group of
friends together and ride to a quiet spot
where you can have good food and good
conversation. Do not give in to jealousy
now; you'll regret it later.
LEO: You're bursting with energy and
pioneering ideas now-but Mercury is retrograde until the 26th. Keep planning
and resist implementing new ideas until
Mercury goes direct. Have confidence
in your financial skills and invest in
something beautiful-maybe something
for your bike-at the end of the month.
VIRGO: You've never looked better,
and you're feeling magnetic. People
come to you with opportunities that look
like windfalls, but need careful testing.
The wounded healers in your life mean
well, but need a little more growth
before you trust them with big commitments. Consider going back to school
this fall to give yourself more career
options.
LIBRA: Ouch, it just seems as if
everyone else is having more fun than
you are this month. You need to shake
those blues, and huddling at home won't
do it. Pick a charity you're passionate
about and gather some other bikers and
see what you can do to change lives.
Money's easy and friends are willing to
support your generous projects now.
SCORPIO: An old flame (or even an
old team mate) is just not ready to commit to your plans for the future-not
ready to move past personal issues-but
this is your time to be sociable and meet
someone who will make a long-term
contribution to your life. Ride carefully
and avoid legal contracts until late in the
month.
SAGITTARIUS: Your workload's
growing, but you just can stretch enough
to do it all yourself. Share your passions
and get a team of friends to ride over
and brainstorm solutions with you.
Delays are temporary; the career moves
you're making now have you glowing by
November.
CAPRICORN: You're powerful, but
others are angry. Give it a rest Talk
over plans quietly and don't take any
action until September. You're easily
distracted, so ride with a safe crowd or
MOTORCYCLE RIDER NEWS—ENTERTAINMENT
take extra precautions when you ride
alone. Creative work and joining
friends for music or open mike nights
will break the tension.
AQUARIUS: You're passionate, but
indecisive. And that's hard on your
pocketbook. Flip a coin. Make a
decision. Have friends ride over to
your house for a potluck celebration as
you move forward. That'll make
money flow again. Cut through red
tape on the job and clean up your
backlog while Mercury's retrograde
from August 3 to August 26.
PISCES: You're a people magnet
this month-and solitary drinking is not
what you should be doing. Even if an
old flame sputters out this month, you
need to get on your bike and go where
there's a crowd to celebrate you. Don't
underestimate your value at work,
either; just keep a log of your contributions and negotiate a raise later in
the year.
