FALL SCHEDULE BEGINS AUGUST 24TH
What is the difference
between synthetic gut
and multi-filament string?
Synthetic Gut string is made
out of nylon – a solid core
with one or more layers wrapped around the
outside. It’s known as being
constructed by cheaper
manufacturing processes
and having lower prices,
and although it’s used by
players of all levels it’s very popular with recreational
tennis players. Synthetic gut is more durable than both
natural gut and multifilament string. On the other hand,
multi-filament strings generally cost more and are higher
grade. They’re still made of nylon, but they’re constructed of hundreds or thousands of microfilaments wrapped
together, causing them to be softer and more elastic.
The increased elasticity makes them more powerful
than your average synthetic gut, although they lose their
tension faster and are less durable. Which type of string
should you use? Our knowledgeable stringing staff is
happy to help you determine which one is right for you!
