We have reached several other significant
milestones recently. With more than 83% of Breezes now sold,
900 families can now call Breezes home. The project team has
started works to facilitate the delivery of a new Neighbourhood
Centre, which can accommodate retail and childcare facilities.
Expressions of interest will soon be released to the public for
the construction of a neighbourhood retail centre.
The third neighbourhood park, Ted Rowe Park was officially
opened in October and construction is set to commence on
a water play park early in 2016. The team is currently working
on plans for a community garden, public art initiatives and an
interpretive cultural trail.
I extend a warm welcome to Judy Tipper who has joined us as
Community Facilitator. Judy has already established the Muirhead
Residents’ Association and Breezes’ playgroup. Breezes’ Facebook
page will keep you up to date with all events.
From the Breezes team we wish a happy and safe holiday season.
Paul Perkovic, Project Director

COVER STORY

Simone, Remy, Ian, Rachael, Alex,
Latia, Sharon, Sarah, Daryl, Annette,
Damien and Suzie. This group of

Centre to discuss community issues,

1 February 2016. All welcome.

JUDY
A long term Darwin local, Judy Tipper has
been appointed as Breezes Muirhead’s
Community Facilitator. Judy previously
worked with Northern Territory Police,
Fire & Emergency Services. Judy is
keen to implement activities that will
foster a strong sense of community.
Visit Judy in the Land Sales Centre
or contact her on 0421 793 761 or
[email protected]
Daryl and Annette have lived in
Darwin since 1974 and own several
investment properties.
“We have followed the development
of Lyons and more recently Muirhead.
We know the market and have decided
that for us, Breezes Muirhead is the
best place in Darwin to live,” said Daryl.
“We like the philosophy behind the
development and have been impressed
with what has been delivered,” said Daryl.
The couple believes that the northern
suburbs offer a highly desirable lifestyle.
“We like to play golf, ride our bikes,
go to the gym and take our grandchildren
to the local swimming pools. We love
that we can do all of this locally.
Casuarina Pool, Leanyer Recreation Park
and Jingili Water Gardens are all within
easy reach,” Daryl said.
Design guidelines which ensure
aesthetically appealing streetscapes at
Breezes Muirhead, and its unique system
of breezeways influenced the Lehmann’s
decision to build their new home.
“Individual properties must be built to
a high standard so the streets are very
pleasing to the eye. When combined
with the nature corridors, parks and
playgrounds it creates a highly desirable
place to live,” said Daryl.
With the help of a good friend who is a
builder, Daryl and Annette have designed
their new home themselves, paying
special attention to features that will
reduce their energy consumption and
maximise the benefits of the breezeways.
“Our objective was always to be in our
new home by Christmas and we’re well
on track to achieve that,” said Daryl.
REFERRALS REWARD RESIDENTS
$1,500
Now’s the time to tell friends and family how much they too
would enjoy the Breezes’ lifestyle! For a limited time, whenever
a current Breezes resident refers someone to Breezes Muirhead,
and that person settles on land before 12 February 2016, the
resident will be rewarded with a $1,500 Visa gift card.*

NEW PARK HONOURS TED ROWE
Local children cut the ribbon to officially open Ted Rowe Park,
the 1.6 hectare neighbourhood park in the Aeris neighbourhood.
The park’s name continues a tradition of honouring influential legal
practitioners. Muirhead is named after James Muirhead, Justice
of the Supreme Court, Administrator of the Northern Territory
and Royal Commissioner into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.
William Forster Park commemorates the first Chief Justice of
the Northern Territory Supreme Court.
Ted Rowe was the Territory’s first Executive Officer of the Law
Society and a long term Red Cross volunteer. As a member of the
Australian Army, Mr Rowe was in Darwin during WW2 including
during the first bombing raid on Darwin Harbour.
LEANYER STUDENTS
GET PLANTING!
Leanyer Primary School students and teachers participated
in Planet Ark’s 20th National Schools Tree Day at Breezes
Muirhead, planting approximately 350 shrubs to revegetate
land close to William Forster Park.
TOP END’S LARGEST
SOLAR SUBURB
Greening Australia Northern Territory (GANT) and trainees
participating in the Aboriginal Landcare Education Programme
(ALEP) assisted small groups of students with the planting.
Defence Housing Australia (DHA) and Investa Land, developers
of Breezes Muirhead supported the event, supplying the plants
and providing a picnic lunch for the students.
“By inviting local students to celebrate Schools Tree Day at
Breezes Muirhead we hope to impart a lifelong love of nature
which will encourage them to engage with and protect their
local environment,” said Ruth Lantzke, NT Regional Director,
Defence Housing Australia.
“Most of the students had never planted before. Their
excitement and sense of achievement at digging a hole,
placing a seedling into the soil and watering it was obvious,”
Ms Lantzke said.
Breezes Muirhead will set a new benchmark for sustainability in the
Top End, with Darwin’s largest residential installation of solar panels.
Defence Housing Australia (DHA) has partnered with Country
Solar NT to create a 337 kWh solar suburb.
77 DHA homes will feature state-of-the-art Solar PV systems,
which can be fitted with battery storage in the future. Each dwelling
has been future-proofed with electric vehicle charging points in
garages and electronic pin pad entry.
Residents will be able to monitor their electricity generation live
via a smartphone app and website.
“We want our communities to leave a positive legacy both socially
and environmentally,” said Ruth Lantzke, NT Regional Director,
Defence Housing Australia.
“This solar technology will produce 600,000 kWh of energy per
year. It is estimated that the systems could cut electricity bills by
more than 70 per cent,*” Ms Lantzke said,
*Based on each system generating 22 kWh per day, and an average
daily energy use of 30 kWh per house.
