About DrugFAM
DrugFAM was established by Elizabeth Burton-Phillips and family who lost Nick one of her
identical twin sons to heroin addiction in 2004. Having struggled to find support for her
own family the aim of DrugFAM is to ensure no family, friends or carers are left living in
isolation, fear and ignorance of any local and national support. We work, wherever possible, in
collaboration with any statutory and non-statutory services to ensure that families affected by
a loved one’s use of drugs or alcohol are understood, educated and supported.
Elizabeth Burton Phillips and Mike Howl (DrugFAM)
in association with The Citadel Arts Centre presents
In May 2007 Elizabeth published the story of how addiction affected her family in the best
selling book, ‘Mum, can you lend me twenty quid? – What drugs did to my family‘. Her booked has been translated
into several languages including Dutch, Czech, Danish and more recently Polish. It will also be available in audio form
in May this year and will be read by Elizabeth following support from the Hampshire Police for its value nationwide. The
response to the book has been staggering, with over 20.000 telephone calls and emails from families saying “your story
is our story, it mirrors everything in our own lives and we too are waiting in dread for that knock on the door that you
had one night from the police’’.
DrugFAM 10th Anniversary Special Appeal
2014 marks ten years since the death of Nicholas Mills, and the creation of the foundation in his name, trading as the

been achieved to support families, friends and carers whose lives have been damaged by a loved one’s addiction to
drugs or alcohol.
We would like to share with you a little of what DrugFAM, together with your support, has achieved in those ten years:

•A
best-selling book, ‘Mum, Can You Lend Me Twenty Quid? What Drugs Did To My Family’, which has been translated
into six languages and will shortly be launched as an audio book
•A

UK since 2012
• Public speaking engagements in over 500 schools in the UK and Europe
• A reception held in honour of DrugFAM at 10 Downing Street, hosted by Samantha Cameron
• T he launch of The National Creative Arts Competition with UK prisons encouraging prisoners to express and

Drugs on which DrugFAM sits as a co-opted member representing families and Adfam and Cruse – families affected by

We need your help.
