Welcome to the Annual
Taste of St. anthony
saturday, February 9th
Letter from Principal
Welcome,
It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I welcome you to our Annual Taste
of St. Anthony Gala. This gala serves as a major fundraising opportunity for our
school, with funds raised from the event being earmarked for scholarship and
funding of all campus activities that your Parent/Teacher Club supports.
There are many to thank for this wonderful evening. The PTC Board has been
instrumental in the planning process. Mrs. Monica Wright, this year’s Gala chair
person has worked tirelessly to ensure that we all enjoy our time together and raise
funds to benefit our students. I thank her and all who gave of their time and effort
to make this night special.
St. Anthony Catholic High School is blessed to have a wonderful community. Your
attendance this evening confirms your commitment to your child’s education and
to the school community. Thank you for being a part our school. It is my hope
that you enjoy this evening of fellowship with our community and continue to
foster the St. Anthony spirit in all you do.
St. Anthony, pray for us!
Rene Escobedo
Principal
St. Anthony Catholic High School
The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate of the Southern Providence
founded St. Anthony Philosophical and Theological Seminary in 1903, but it
was not until September 1905 that the “St. Anthony’s College and Apostolic
School” opened its doors with 8 students. The School was founded originally
as a Junior Seminary for the formation of young men for the priesthood, thus
it came to be known as St. Anthony was founded on many rich traditions, with
two of the most cherished being elements of spirituality and community. On
July 1, 1995, the University of the Incarnate Word assumed Management of
St. Anthony. Under its new administration, and the new name, St. Anthony
Catholic High School has greater opportunities and horizons to expand its
already rich traditions of spirituality, community, and academics.
Our Mission
St. Anthony Catholic High School prepares young men and women for
positions of responsibility and leadership through a college preparatory
curriculum based on Catholic values and traditions. Within a comprehensive
array of demanding academic courses, athletics, and extra curricular activities,
students develop the mental, physical, and spiritual well being needed to make
choices consistent with their academic and career goal and reflecting the spirit
of Catholic education.
Our Vision
St. Anthony Catholic High School is a premier co-educational institution founded
on Catholic values and traditions, which are the basis for a comprehensive
college preparatory curriculum designed to promote scholarship and spiritual
growth and appreciation for the power of service.

Goodnight
Natalie Tejeda
KENS-TV Traffic Reporter / Great Day SA Co-Host
Natalie Tejeda is a ball of energy who’s always bounding into the newsroom with a cheery “Good Morning!”
at 4:30 a.m. Any given day of the week you can count on her to guide you around car crashes, construction
delays, traffic congestions and any other slow-downs so that you and your kids get to work and school safely
and maybe, just maybe, you’ll even have time to hit up Starbucks before walking through the office door. You
also can find her filling in for any number of anchors on the morning, noon and evening newscasts. And with
her extensive hard news, investigative and live reporting experience, Natalie’s bosses never hesitate to send her
out to cover breaking news stories.
Natalie is also extremely active in the community, often spending her afternoons, evenings and weekends
emceeing events, judging contests and speaking to children at schools to encourage them to pursue higher
learning and follow their dreams.
One cause that is near and dear to her heart is health and physical fitness. Many of her stories focus on health,
nutrition and working out. Her “Great Day SA” series -- “Getting Fit with Nat” -- often features high-profile
community figures, such as world champion boxer Jesse James Leija, Bexar County Precinct 3 Commissioner
Kevin Wolff and even San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, to name a few. The goal is to encourage
everyone to adopt a healthy lifestyle and move our city from being one of the fattest to being one of the fittest!
One of the things Natalie loves about her job is always getting to meet new people and share in their lives and
experiences. “I am so grateful people invite me into their homes every morning and let me be part of their
families. If you see me when you’re out and about, come up and say hi. I’d love to meet you in person.”
Natalie received her bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis in broadcast journalism from
California State University, Fullerton.
So Many Thank Yous
Thank you all for spending this evening with us at our Annual Taste of St. Anthony. We are so grateful
for your support of St. Anthony Catholic High School and of our PTC. We hope that you have a wonderful
time tonight. We have been so fortunate to have the support of many in our community, and I would
like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who donated items, bought ads, and donated their time
to make this gala a success.
Thank you to our St. Anthony faculty who contributed items to the gala, sold ads, and made donations.
Thank you to Ms. Keith and the Art students who donated their creative skills to our event. Coach Salas,
we appreciate that you secured sponsorship and continuously drove attendance. Ms. Maggie Alaniz, we
thank you for always saying yes and for getting things done regardless of the task at hand. Thank you so
much for all of the help you have given us over the years. Mr. Escobedo, thank you for your continuous
support of our PTC Board and all of our endeavors. We appreciate all of your guidance and support
tremendously. Thank you to Mr. Calderon and the St. Anthony Alumni for their donations and support,
and to Mr. Ochoa for continuously supporting our PTC activities year after year.
Thank you to ALL the PTC Board members. You have all worked hard to make this event successful.
We specifically want to thank Grace De Jesus, our Board President, for always supporting our ideas
and helping us to bring them to life. We would also like to thank Grace Esparza and Cindy Saenz who
both made planning the gala fun and exciting, and who put forth more effort than I can describe. Your
input was immeasurable. A special thanks to board member Jaime Vera who completed too many tasks
to name.
Thank you to Thomas, Marika & David for their love, support and patience. We are blessed to have
many family members here tonight. Thank you to the Gutierrez, Wright, Barrera, & Hernandez families,
we appreciate your presence tremendously.
Thank you to you. We want to thank ALL of the families at STA who have made our years here so
special and full of memories. We have made great friends and are better people for our association with
St. Anthony’s. As this year starts to wind down, we realize how much we will miss this STA community.
It is the love, dedication, and contributions of the families, faculty, and alumni that make STA the special
place that it is.
